Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

No, for as long as you want, as it's running pretty stable on ~1.8GHz with 80% fan. I'd imagine that 2GHz stable is possible with 100%. Still, custom cooler is the way to get there in any case.

from computerbase

"The 2.0 GHz sound barrier was the test sample so that not to break permanently. In the short term are indeed at greater than 2.0 GHz, but not later than five minutes, the frequency is lower."

You're dreaming if you think you'll get anything from Scan tomorrow.

Well you were right Scan took my money confirming they had stock. It's still waiting to ship at 22:45 at night.

Thieving cunts. I've no idea when they are getting stock back in, when they can deliver or where my fucking money is.

General question.

But how do you tell if a card is....

1. a reference PCB with a custom cooler

and/or

2. a custom PCB with a custom cooler.

The thirst is so real here lol.
I'll be waiting patiently for OEM 1070's and what people have to say about BIOS modding and thermal and power limits.

Not even considering touching a FE.
It's a little harder since I want to play DOOM on a new card

Wouldn't you think the 980ti/980/970 good OEMs should carry forward to the 1070/1080?

Waiting (impatiently) for the 1070 too. I just have to keep telling myself a £200 premium is not justified....

Okay I've made up my mind. I am getting the ASUS Strix OC edition. I shall now wait patiently for the opportunity to purchase.

My 970 was originally intended to be a stopgap that I would then replace with the 980Ti, but money was not a thing I had a lot of when it was released so I had to hold off on that purchase. Got a new job 6 months ago and have been saving up for the 1080 since, that shit shall be mine (and then maybe replaced by the 1080Ti because I still want to get on the big chip upgrade path..).

Has anyone any experience with Inno3D GPUs..? They're not one of the 'big' players so am wondering if they're any good or not..?

This one here available to pre-order on Overclockers is only £589.99, has a base clock of 1759MHz, a boost clock of 1898MHz, the memory at 10400MHz and 4 bloody great big fans on it. They have one for 20 quid cheaper with 3 fans on it too.

At the moment, depending on reviews, I've narrowed down my selection to 3 cards:

* The Asus Strix
* The EVGA FTW
* The Inno3D iChill Air Boss x4

I'm not going to be able to afford it until August, and hopefully they'll be competitively priced on Amazon UK because I should get 4-15% off the Amazon UK price via the Flubit website. Anyone getting anything from Amazon UK should check it out, you just paste your Amazon UK URL and their retail partners beat the price from between 4% and 15%. I saved a good few quid building my VR machine this way. Saw it mentioned on HotUKDeals and haven't looked back since!

Evga's website has been down for almost the entire day. It was down when I check at 6am PST and barely squeak a preorder at 8am and now it's just dead.

Why not? Not every gamer is an over clocker. Do you not trust Nvidias own design? Now Nvidia charging more for them is the dumb part. You can always put a different cooler on one.

It costs more, the aftermarket versions are higher clocked out of the box so they perform better without overclocking, they are going to be WAY more quiet, have passive cooling on the desktop/when watching video/playing 2d games.

There is literally no reason to consider the potato reference versions here, usually the reference cards are cheaper to make up for their potato pcb and potato cooler

But why not wait another week or two and get a cheaper and better performing card? Isn't just about overclocking.

And changing the cooler on the FE version would just bring up the price even more, which makes it an even worse deal.

I guess it comes to down to trusting other OEM's. Some are hit and miss in quality control.

no one should trust anything Nvidia says about things ever
forever ever to infinity

They just added EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 at $609.99 and EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 ACX 3.0 at $619.99. Both on notify and I see their FE is in stock.

As per the two posts responding to you, plus I think this sort of price gouging by Nvidia should not be rewarded. If we accept this price increase (by buying the FE card), it's going to have a flow on effect to all future releases.

Tinkering with an FE.. Only seen one bothersome thing so far. (all below at stock settings now)

I put on a game and was trying to load the card up. The temp went to 80C or so, and the clock was boosted 17xx.. The temp was stable and not going up. The clock was stable and not going down.

The fan was sitting at 2000 RPM... but every 20 seconds or so it would instantly go to about 3000RPM for like 1-2 seconds and then drop back to 2000.

It just kept doing this, so despite neither fan RPM being annoying, the cycling up and down was. If it ramped slowly it would be ok, but it doesn't seem to need to based on clock and temp. Strange.

Also..

Is the new Doom not very demanding? I have everything max at 2540x1440 and the card is stable at 1845, temp 77C, fan 2000 RPM.

I used Flubit a fair bit for building my PC too, but for higher value components I would much rather deal with Amazon's customer service to be honest. Didn't think it was worth the saving for a motherboard, let alone a £600 GPU. Up to you though.

Try setting up a custom fan profile in Afterburner and see if that helps.

ATM if I were to buy a 1080, I would go with the EVGA Hybrid. Custom PCB, 8+8 power, more phases, AIO cooler... all we need is a good price (~$700). I can't imagine any air card consistently performing better. Second place would be the Asus Strix at $640, which IMO, is a very competitive price for a custom PCB card.

So the expensive FE and the better, cheaper 3rd party cards launched at the same time? Is that correct? I guess we can expect the same for 1070, then. Just getting an understanding of the situation for when I get my 1070.

It's mostly pre orders for the custom cards - most I've seen aren't shipping until mid June. Also I haven't seen any listings for the custom ones on major retailers yet - Amazon, Newegg, etc. Maybe they won't show up there until they are officially launched.

Ah, I see. The FE ships first but every GPU variant has been shown now. Thanks.

I want that hybrid, but actually getting one is the issue. Hopefully get one by the 10th from Amazon.

I cant believe I was able to buy a 1080. I attempted to buy one with my cellphone at 6am and by the time I try to finalize the purchase they tell me sorry but they are all sold out. My first break at 9am comes and I check my email on my phone and I have a message from nvidia telling me that I still have something in my checkout. I pick up where I left off and click the finalize button and it tells me purchase confirmed and charges my card.

Is there a list for which cards have a single 8 pin and which have more?

And whats the news on coil sounds for these cards, any thing said in any reviews yet?
