Jesus. What have I done?
As far as I know, the only possible side-effect is increased heat. But if you can overclock and still stay in the temperature safe-zone, you'll be fine.

Quick question: What are the metal bits at the back of a GPU that connect to the rear of a PC called?

I replaced my two GTX 560 Ti's with a single GTX 970, so now I have a rectangular hole at the back of my case where the second card went =P Presumably I can get hold of one of those metal... things, with no card attached, to block the hole, but I have no idea what they're called!

Mine works perfectly fine. Running around 1450mhz core on stock. Don't find a need to push it yet. A few hours ago I was playing Witcher 2 on ultra settings @ 60fps/1080p.So my EVGA GTX 970 has been performing fine, and noise hasn't been much of an issue. For the hell of it, I decided to take a look at the reviews it's been getting.
...and uh, wow, did I get lucky or something? I haven't been having the issues others are having.

Without AA those fps seem kinda low when looking at benchmarks...
yesterday. 3-5 hours long. $20.
and its beautiful.

I guess the fans make a little noise but if I listen to moonlight sonata on my speakers, it's drowned out. Most of those reviews are just regurgitating forum complaints.

Asus STRIX 970 on newegg right now
not the best SLI card but i ordered two.
BTW, thanks to PCPer's EVGA stream today, here's some good news about EVGA 970s - their new BIOS will make them semi-passive at temps below 60C (IIRC).
Look at the results as a game's leaderboards.I am really not sure. I had no idea. No inkling of an idea when I posted those scores yesterday.
This doesn't become a habit for me that I try to keep.
It can't.
I won't let it.
That's what, $430 after HST? oy
I'm not accustomed to coil wine but I'm not hearing anything out of the ordinary. I recently replaced my CPU fans with nice quiet low db Scythes. So now my loudest component is my 150gb raptor. I barely hear the GPU and it's out in the open, not cased in. I'm now on #teamquiet, catching up on the times but won't go ssd till probably next year sometime with Haswell.TLDR; pretty happy with my EVGA 970 SC ACX 1.0. Fans and temps aren't an issue, coil whine is there but only noticeable in really quiet times when I'm doing non-game 3d work. Keeping it.
Not sure. They didn't demo the update process, but they showed off a 980 with an ACX 2.0 cooler with the new BIOS.What's the process like in upgrading bios for eVGA cards? I haven't had one in years, is it something you flash yourself or does their precision software do it?
The PCI lanes are "clocked" down when there is no load.
I've never heard of this before. Link?
Are those at the default gigabyte clocks?
Very nice.
Yup default.

$400+ is stretching into high end pricing and I'm not really trying to get into that. If I can save $75-100 just by turning the texture setting from Ultra to Very High/High in games(usually hardly noticeable), that's no problem for me.If a brother can get an 8GB GTX 970 for $400-$430, it might be worth it, but anything higher than that and I'll just stick to my High setting and call it quits.
Yeah, I knew the bandwidth went down, but I was calling to question "clocking down to PCI-E 2.0". I don't think it can go from PCI-E 3.0 to 2.0.They do yes, but he's still on PCI 2.0x16.

Just got my 970 windforce and shit sounds like a rattle snake, I am dissapointed....
edit: Also I'm getting no audio through HDMI...
Yup default.
Awesome link. The more you know.I've seen mine go from 2.0 to 1.1 when it's not doing anything, just like in this thread

Huh weird, figured everyone was seemingly behind the windforce being of good quality.Just got my 970 windforce and shit sounds like a rattle snake, I am dissapointed....

There's also just the odd bad example here and there. And vice versa. I've heard from both reviews and users that the EVGA cards are not that quiet. I certainly wouldn't ignore that just because there's some reports of people not finding an issue with it.Huh weird, figured everyone was seemingly behind the windforce being of good quality.
I guess it just goes to show you cannot rely too much on first impressions of things. We've got people in this thread who got the dreaded EVGA 970 ACX1 and have reported no issues, and then you've got people who are having issues with the other brands.
