Ok need an advise.
In Canada the 3090 ftw3 is 2700$ Canadian after tax ( which Is the official price for it same as US price after considering the currency difference )

some guy is selling less than 3 weeks old card ( I know the guy, trust worthy and not used for mining or OC ) . Offering me the card for 2000$.

So now 3 things I am looking at

1- the official price for ftw 3 is 1250$ after tax assuming it can be found . It’s a unicorn like most 3080s . However, people are selling their cards for 1500 and 1600$ at least for the same model

2- the 3090 for 2000$ isn’t bad price considering I can sell it later for the same price if not more (700$ Price difference is Too big IMO )

3- I wouldn’t have to worry about a 3080ti and killing the 3080 in terms of price or at least feel like I got fucked with 10gig if I decided to get one now . Even if someone comes to me with an argument that 10 gig is enough . The fact there is a 20 gig version for lil more than what I paid for if I to get 3080 now feels like betrayal to me.

Now my questions to gaffers . Should I get that 3090 ( which my heart says do it do it fucking do it bill burr style )

my mind is like .. 700$ between official price of 3080 and 3090 is too much for 15% gain in performance and more vram

What do gaffers think ?
Just buy it, i had the same "problem", here in Brasil its impossible to find a 3080, i bought the 3090 after thinking a lot, and im loving the card, 3090 + LG b9 4k 120hz its simply awesome, go for it my friend, life is short.

But if you only have a 1080p monitor i dont recomend, my 3900xt its a huge bottleneck (30% less fps at some games, if compared to 10900 and 5900x) at 1080p.

Under load, while playing Cyberpunk 2077, my EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming reaches ~75 degrees Celcius. Is this too high?

I've got my case fans running at full speed and I've applied a very aggressive fan curve that pushes the fans 20 units higher than the temperature (e.g. 40 degrees Celcius-> fans run at 60%; 70 degrees Celcius -> fans run at 90%; etc).

No. 75C is good.

75°C is fine.

I figured that with such an aggressive fan curve and with the case fans at max speeds, I should be able to shave off ten degrees or so. However, no settings make any difference. Well, at least 75C is safe.

I mean, without knowing what case you have and your cooling system configuration, it’s impossible to know if it’s already a freaking miracle you run it at 75C or if there’s room to improve.

Personally, I’m a SFF kind of guy working with cases < 20L, got a FormD T1 v2 coming whenever it comes because I was on the list for 1.1 but it got canceled in manufacturing. 75C for me would be ideal. I’m a big ATX case, I would be surprised it’s not better.

Also, undervolting these cards is their best kept secret, 1% drop in performance for ~80W less.

We don't have any real next gen games yet though. Even Cyberpunk still has last gen constraints. WD Legion is already pushing way above 8GB at WQHD, but I guess it's Ubisoft so doesn't really count. But shit ports are not a rarity unfortunately.

I think the argument "in two years we have 40 series" is not very smart because it's totally reasonable to skip a GPU gen from time to time.

I will step-up from 3080 to 3080ti with EVGA if it comes out within the next 2-3 months.

From what I have seen in my country, things have not improved one bit. Prices also STILL keep going up. Probably Christmas + Cyberpunk release.

I guess what I don't understand is how anyone willing to step up from a 3080 to a 3080ti would not be willing to (or even better off) stepping up from a 3080 to a 4080 when the time comes. The cost difference would even be smaller.

Intake at the bottom and exhaust at the top for the chimney effect?

This guy has 69C with a vision 3090 in the o11 MINI case, I think with your full size o11 you should reach those temps easy (?)

The EVGA card has one of the more inneficient coolers out of the aib versions, thats why its running on the hotter side of the spectrum. Seems the TUF cards are the best cooling wise, they barelly crack 60 degrees in load. They're at least 10 degrees cooler than most other variants

Doesn’t make a real difference in performance. I’d take the EVGA any day for the warranty, support, and the step up program.

Glad my 3080 EVGA XC3 Ultra is coming in the mail next week!

But he has water cooling for the CPU, which doesn't expel heat from the CPU into the case. Also, his Vision RTX 3090 probably has a better cooler than my FTW3 Ultra Gaming.

I have the FTW3 3090 and I undervolted it.

Running 0.925 @ constant 1950mhz and it rarely goes over 360w power usage at 99% usage.

Using a mid to aggressive fan curve and temps are rarely reaching 70 degrees celcious.

Averages mostly around 60-65 degrees.

I probably loose 3-5 fps in game? Also overclocked the memory +500

It also depends on the resolution you play at. I have the CX 48 and as an example if I play fallen order at 1440p vs 4k...there is a difference of at least 100w more at 4k which in return brings up the temps.

Just need to find the sweet spot and adjust accordingly depending the game you play.

Works like a charm! 👌

A 2GB increase from 80 series GPUs is laughable and some games are already getting very tight at 4k.

Please research what EVGA step-up is.

What games are getting very tight at 4K that would otherwise be running at 60 fps or higher? I don't doubt there are games that are hitting the VRAM ceiling, but I am skeptical that they would run at 60 fps or higher if only the VRAM were higher. I don't think it's the bottleneck we feared.

In regards to step-up, even if they gave your full MSRP for your 3080 and the 3080 Ti costs $1000, I still don't see how you come out on top vs using the 3080 for a year or so and then buying the 4080. You will likely be able to sell your 3080 for around $350 or so even after the 4080 comes out.

well DLSS2.1 at effective resolutions below 4K sucks a bit. there is a fixed scalar for quality, perf ect. mode which resconstructs the image from a base resultion. for quality mode it's 1.5 iirc. so effective 4K DLSS quality = reconstructed from 1440p. effective 1440p DLLS quality = base 960p. 1080p effective = reconstructed from 720p. there is a point where the allgorythm isn't working properly anymore because information density of the source image just runs to low.

alex b. explained that in one of his videos. nevertheless in the cyberpunk video he recommends turning on DLSS in 1080p on 20series RTX cards which i can't quite comprenhend. i think IQ is still acceptable at 1440p but at 1080p it seems to be getting borderline. especially if you go below quality mode at that resolution it's stops being a valid alternative.

Hey fellas, anyone with a 3000 series GPU do me a favour and test The Surge 1 and/or 2 at 5K and see what performance is like? Cheers. :messenger_fistbump:

I looked at Surge 2 a bit, but only at the beggining area. 5k at the very high preset is kinda a bit over 60, but drops a bit bellow. Putting the preset to high kept the framerate between 60 and 70, havent seen it drop bellow 60. At 4k you're gonna sport over 100 frames.

Get ready guys, GPU tariffs incoming due to expiration of the exemption. All GPU’s are made in China. As of this writing ASUS, MSI, Zotac, Gigabyte, PNY have all raised their MSRP’s. Still waiting on EVGA to respond, they are the only America-based company in the list but their cards are made in China like everyone else’s.

Yup, I use a conservative undervolt for the same performance with an additional 3-4 degrees shaved off. My asus Tuf 3080 almost never even hits 60 degrees. Lan cool mesh II case with noctua air cooled 9700k at 4.9ghz

My 3070 just arrived! Hope I get some good value from the 500€ it costed me. :goog_relieved:

Do you guys think the 8GBs of VRAM will hold up? I do plan on gaming only up to 1440p.

Glad to read you guys, thanks! My plan is to try to use this GPU at least during the next 4 or so years, and then replace it for a newer model.

By that point 4k 120hz (or more) monitors should be way more mainstream, so it's a good plan. I already got one, now I just need to find a GPU capable of using the thing...

Yeah hope so! I setttled up with a 1440p monitor tho... hope I don't regret that in a few years. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

Good luck with the hunt btw! If it serves as advice, I found mine via telegram channels, which had bots installed that warned people when stock was replenished.

Yeah it isn't too bad in the UK, you can get basically everything except a 3080 if you actually try, but those are rare as rocking horse shit. I've got a temporary 3070 until stronger stuff comes out.

Could have picked up a new in box MSI 3080 Trio for €700 yesterday from a seller half an hour away from me. I shortly thought about buying it and selling my Zotac, but in the end I'm quite happy with it, so I left it for someone else.

I'm still trying to find the holy grail 3080 FE at retail. Maybe someone will trade me for my 3090.

I think it makes sense to cancel / postpone the 3080 Ti. It would definitely eat into the sales of the 3090 heavily.

I do not recommend EVGA XC3 Ultra unless you have really good airflow. It runs HOT, reaching 80C in my Meshify C w/ 2x140mm front intake+ 2x120mm top&back exhaust.

I undervolted to 1875@0.9 and temp dropped to 70C. Stock boost is only goes up to 1920 anyway so fps loss is minimal.

Haha, the dream is dead for people who were holding out for this. Glad I got my 3090 when I had the chance.

Yep, feeling real good about going 3090 now.

Yeah, Because spending 100%(+) more, to get ~10% more FPS than a 3080, is such a clever way to throw money down the drain....I mean, you've literally given Nvidia $600-$800 of free cash, for doing fuck all.

Gee, Wish i was as smart as you guys.

I've never gone higher than 67 on my Aorus Master. Granted, the card is the size of a small car, but the cooling is quiet good.

Or as rich.

I undervolted my 3080 and wow, this thing runs way more awesome. Especially a bigger deal since I'm a small form factor PC user (Ncase M1).

I'm not sure what you're mad about. People do what they want with their money, that's how capitalism works. It's not like I can travel anywhere or eat at restaurants right now, so I might as well use my money on something I can actually enjoy and use right now.

Since I'm in the club now i wanted to post my underwhelming experience.
I went from a 1060 to the 3070, the Zotac Twin Edge OC to be exact, not a big fucking whoop.
What i'm most impressed tho it's that for productivity i'm running a 5 display setup + a rift and everything it's smoother than before, didn't expect for the upgrade to make any difference on windows, but it does.

VR performance it's the coolest, which was my main motivator, most games i had trouble with now run better, but i can't believe they still don't run perfectly. No mans sky runs like shit but i already knew this from reading comments online and Boneworks runs kinda alright but not perfect.
SW Squadrons runs really good now, compared to before, the biggest improvement in what I've tried.

Overall, i'm happy with the upgrade but i feel that even if managed to get the card at msrp plus tax it still feels like i over payed, maybe the real jump it's gonna be in the next series but i'm not upgrading anytime soon.

Honestly, i'm super tempted, more and more to just buy a 3090 and be done with this shit. 3080 are going to miners. I would have jumped on a 3080 TI so, i'm thinking the price difference between the 3090 and a possible ~1000 to 1100$ 3080 Ti, and probably even more from AIBs, is not too bad?

It is 2.2k canadian before taxes though..
