Nvidia RTX 30XX |OT|

Yeesh, still playing the "get what you can, until you get what you want" lottery with cards.

I got a Zotac 3080 but wanted something better so sold it for a slight profit ($70) and then now I got the most basic gigabyte RTX 3080 because prices jumped up $100+ and not sure if they'll potentially jump again.

Price I paid for the gigabyte, is the same as the best RTX 3080 at launch (i.e. I paid $850 for the gigabyte card, which was the same price as the strix RTX 3080 at launch).

Beggars can't be choosers though. I can't use any of my parts I bought for a new PC, without a freaking graphics card (since I have a ryzen R9 5900x).

Managed to get a 3070 from Currys providing the order doesn’t get cancelled. Supposed to be picking it up Tuesday.

hopefully I can get most of the money back for the 1660 super I got last year.

Yeah, Because spending 100%(+) more, to get ~10% more FPS than a 3080, is such a clever way to throw money down the drain....I mean, you've literally given Nvidia $600-$800 of free cash, for doing fuck all.

Gee, Wish i was as smart as you guys.

It's only expensive if you can't afford it.

I like having the top card, knowing it'll last a long time, have more than enough VRAM, and I don't have worry about 3080 vs. 3080 ti or whatever else may or may not come and may or may not be completely unavailable to buy.

Under load, while playing Cyberpunk 2077, my EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming reaches ~75 degrees Celcius. Is this too high?

I've got my case fans running at full speed and I've applied a very aggressive fan curve that pushes the fans 20 units higher than the temperature (e.g. 40 degrees Celcius-> fans run at 60%; 70 degrees Celcius -> fans run at 90%; etc).

That is what mine ran at. I put the Hybrid kit on and it doesn't go over 60. Usually low to mid 50s gaming at full load. Not pleased with the pump noise though.

How was the installation? Easy?

At first it was a little daunting but I have had it open a bunch of times to repaste and then replaced it with a new one due to pump noise and it's easy now that I know what I am doing. 2nd one is probably worse unfortunately. Here is what it sounds like. You can't control the pump speed so I am going to buy a cable so I can plug it into my motherboard so I can set a curve for the pump.

There are a couple Youtube videos of the process now which I wish I had available to me.

I did the same thing. I also really liked the heft of the 3090FE. Plus it was easy to sell my 3080. So it was basically keep 3080 and save 500 bucks, or keep 3090, sell 3080 and spend another 500. I game on a 4k TV so the extra 10% performance will be enough to maintain 60FPS at max settings a little bit longer. I never would have bought the top card if the supply wasn't so ridiculous.

I think it is stupid because I don't have enough time to use it, but I don't really care. The real question is what was dumber, buying the 3090 or buying a PS5 when there is no chance in hell I can play all the top games on both platforms?

So that's what I did, I ordered the hybrid kit. I'm a little leery about putting it on because the overclocks on my card are really freaking good as is right now, but I'm going to do it just out of heat. Thing is I might have to get a new case thanks to radiator placement being a bastard in my current one.

I don't want to be one of those guys that asks where you got your radiator in relation to your pump and if it's higher so that air bubbles blah blah blah, but you may want to give it a look.

My radiator is mounted to the top of my case. These pumps are just garbage. Google EVGA Hybrid pump noise and you'll get a million results. 2000 series was especially bad apparently.

Great. I'm even questioning at this point if it's worth tearing apart the air cooler if things are going well with my card. Cooling shroud shipped today coincidentally.

exactly this . to be honest i even got my 3090 FTW3 500$ Canadian off the retail price and it was used for 3 weeks only considering the prices of the GPU these days ... its almost as if i paid for scalping price of 3080 lol.

This way i wont even have to worry about 3080ti killing my 3080 etc.

I think the 3080 FE. It’s what I have.

I fucking hate you, yes you specifically..

There has been 0, yes, 0, freaking 3080 FE sold "officially" in Canada as of now. Not Nvidia, not best buy, nada. The FE is the only true 2-slot card, which really gives many options for small form factor builds.

I don't really hate you. Just mad jelly

Be ready tomorrow (1/19) at 8am PST, for the probable drop on Best Buy's website.

Edit:
Looks like that prediction was wrong. Sorry for wasting anybody's time, that waited.

Apparently it's been like clockwork up until this week.

Sorry to bump into here, but what is the general consensus right now on which manufacturer makes the most silent and least plagued by coil whine 30 series GPUs (which models)?

I'm not sure about consensus, but I've had zero problems with my EVGA FTW 3090. I wanted a ROG Strix, but I lost patience and micro center had the FTW. I've been running it about a month and it's one of the most compliant, well-mannered components I've ever used. Zero histrionics, solid overclocks. If there's coil whine I'm not hearing it.

Teach me "how capitalism works", you clown.

Jeff Bezos would not notice if he would be buying a loaf of bread every second paying $1000 a piece, 24/7.
He is that fucking rich.

That doesn't mean he wouldn't see that $1000 for a piece of bread is not an adequate price.

Stop being annoying. Stop insulting others. And most importantly: STOP BEING POOR.

FYI my EVGA 3080 the fan was ramping like crazy. Did an undervolt from a guide which I followed from somewhere within this thread using MSI afterburner.

It def helped. Fan still ramps up but not as frequently. Also I noted my case is a bit small. And the PSU shroud which is great for cable management and asthetics but you lose space between teh PSU and GPU (its an ITX case). I think I am going to move my whole build to a mATX case later to give it even more airflow.

If anyone has been getting freezes while using Adobe Premiere Pro or Media Encoder, note that it was due to the last Nvidia driver. Lost so many productive hours due to this. I was considering reinstalling windows. There is a hotfix out now, thankfully, and the issue is fixed.

The hotfix addresses the following issues:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro may freeze when using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA) [3230997/200686504]
  • [461.09] NVIDIA Broadcast Camera filter may hang. [200691869]
  • [Steam VR game]: Stuttering and lagging occur upon launching a game (Without using any Hardware monitoring tool). [3152190]
  • [Detroit: Become Human]: The game randomly crashes. [3203114]
  • [NVENC] Colors of webcam video image on receiving end of Zoom may appear incorrect [3205912]
  • [Assassin's Creed Valhalla] Game may randomly crash after extended gameplay [200679654]
  • [X4: Foundations][Vulkan]: The game may crash on GeForce RTX 30 series GPUs. [3220107]
  • [X4: Foundations][Vulkan]: HUD in the game is broken. [3169099]

Undervolting is an absolute must on this card. Made a huge, huge difference. Temps are more consistent and average lower.

I have had a 3 3080's and a 3090.

Asus TUF 3080- Terrible Terrible coil whine and annoying high pitch fans. If you google coilwhone 3080/90, most results are the ASUS cards
Gigabyte Gaming OC 3080 - Quiet all around
MSI Trio X 3080- Mild Coil Whine but not bad
EVGA FTW3 3090 - Mild coil whine but not bad.

From what I understand coil whine might depend on more factors than just the make and model of a graphics card. So my advice is to not necessarily get hung up in a specific advice.. In my experience over- underclocking makes a difference, one time I swapped my GTX1080 card between computers and that made the coil whine disappear. For a long time my card was chirping like a little bird, but then suddenly it vanished.., I don't really know why.. I mean, sometimes it feels like even the difference in temperature in the case and room might make a difference, so yeah.. It's (might be) complicated..

I am still looking for two 3080's .. Can't find one, let alone two.

I have some bots but still, even with bots I can't find any stock

Have you tried nvidia snatcher? Actually curious how much internet data it eats through, as apparently it's quite high (and like most people I'm with Comcast, and they have data caps).

Is that bot too? Looks like I'll have to look into it if its useful

I appreciate you thank you

Oh boy...

Bought a used RX 570 for the meantime for an okay price. Will try to hold out until cards are widely available again (so probably 2022).

How much did you pay. I bought an OLD graphics card (i.e. Geforce 8400 GS) last night off evga's website as I need SOMETHING (since I'm doing a ryzen 5900x build, and there is no integrated graphics).

Oh boy...

What a time to be alive. It would be one thing if they dropped the price, but sounds like they're asking the same price they were before ampere was released... making it about the same price as the RTX 3060.

Yeesh, Jensen is such a douche bag. I know why nvidia is doing it, as demand is sky high, but still this is scummy.

Turing was always overpriced, and continues to be after it was shelved and brought back.

Got it for 130 EUR, which is more than it should be worth (70), but I practically had no good alternatives. RX 570, 580 (4GB), R390, 470/80 and RTX 780(Ti) seem to be the best deals on eBay right now.

I always see people suggesting that you keep an old graphics card around for this type of thing.

... But I don't listen. And then when I do go look for anything it's $150 for anything good (even more now that the second hand market is on fire too).

Omg fuck Newegg.

And in that context, here's the current state of 3080 deliveries at just one of the many online shops (proshop.no) in my country. "Still crazy after all these"..months..

Here's the rest of the list: NVIDIA GeForce RTX | 3060 Ti | 3070 | 3080 | 3090 » Full overview here! (proshop.no)

mindfactory just bumped the price on Ampere and RDNA2 cards.
On the bright side, no problems with availability (except 3080, which is still MIA). :messenger_beaming:
E.g. $499 3070 is all yours, for mere 799 to 879€.
