The obvious choice:
https://www.yelp.com/biz/bohemian-hall-and-beer-garden-astoria

But that's coming from someone who is rarely outside of Manhattan.

Damnit, I'm at the top of the page again?!
That beer garden is a given. I wouldn't mind going into Sunnyside or somewhere else in Queens just to see something new. Not that I've ever been to that beer garden before because I haven't.

Why you no do 100 posts per page? Once you go 100, you can never go back.
Is there anyway to check if zoned elementary schools are full or not online?

We are moving to NYC in June and I couldn't find anything online that lets you know if a school has any space available.
Sorry, this post got overlooked because none of the regulars including myself are parents. Your best bet would probably be to look up the zone school and call them to see if they have any space This link will help you out: http://schools.nyc.gov/ChoicesEnrollment/FindZonedSchool.htm

Nope. I was supposed to go to Drink N Draw NYC today since Arrow is a repeat but I got caught in the Assassin's Creed Wikia rabbit hole doing research for an interview that I'm writing.

I think the The Protomen perform songs based on the Mega Man series. Wikipedia says it's original concept albums. It sounds like fun! Take pictures if anything since the band wears Proto Man helmets.

I have about 10 guys coming into town one week from Saturday. We're all going to a boxing match at MSG on Saturday night so I'm trying to think of ways to spend the day. Any suggestions?

Going to a beer garden is a super easy one. I would also maybe like to do dinner, but I don't want to have to get a reservation since I won't know the exact headcount. Any thoughts on a bar in the vicinity of MSG? Any other ideas I might not have thought of?

10s a lot but, if you don't need to entertain all of them at once: comedy show. Definitely go to the cellar or the stand or Caroline's or one of the other 10 good clubs around NYC.

And I'm not gonna be able to get pics of this Protomen show. $50 phone

I've been to shows with 5X as many people inside that weren't as hype as this protomen show. I got some pics cuz I got a good spot.
They had like a short fil m (missed that) , a q&a (didn't get it)... They put on a ducking show.

Most of the people here, it's like this was the show they've been waiting forever for. For me it's just "oh this is a thing happnin tonight"

Awesome show

You can try Reichenbach Hall which isn't too far from MSG. Huge beer hall with great food.

I'll second this place. Reichenbach Hall is a pretty solid place. They have a ski shot for folks who are into group drinking stuff and a great beer and food selection.

There's also a place with giant Jenga not too far from MSG who's name escapes me. GK86 can help me out on this one. Otherwise, I think Korea Way is another solid pick for a group thing or Chelsea Barcade if they've never been to one.

Yeah, I think that's the place. I've never been there before but that sounds great! I wonder if that's the same place that shows movies every Friday night or if I'm thinking of another bar.

Keep them coming... always up for new bars for Happy Hour after work... giant Jenga sounds fun... now if folks will walk that far...

Hmmm seems like I will be moving. Right now it doesn't look like I will be in the Bronx. But, I have hope, that I'll find another place there, though I wouldn't mind being in Harlem again.

Pioneers bar is fantastic. I love it. Beers are pricey though.

I went to their game night. They usually have N64, Wii and, I think, Gamecube. And they have the Mario Kart and Super Smash games for those consoles. Plenty of controllers too.

I am very much looking forward to my F91.

My cat has been knocking my figures off of my shelf, so I'm trying to restrain myself until I figure out a solution to my display problem.

Mother Nature: Lol, hold my beer.

Officially moving to Astoria. Super excited. :D

You guys should check out IndieCade East. I think Saturday is the best day to go since the Night Games are always a ton of fun. Last year Austin Walker was there and Pat Baer was volunteering which was a bit jarring after seeing him at PAX East the weekend before.

If anyone is into comics and willing to brave the cold weather, tonight is the opening night of the Will Eisner Centennial Celebration at Society of Illustrators. It's open from 7:30pm-11pm for the public. Here's a quick excerpt on what to expect:

This two-floor retrospective—the largest Eisner exhibition ever in the United States—curated by Denis Kitchen and John Lind, comprises over 150 pieces including original artwork from Smash Comics (1939), key sequences from his graphic novels including A Contract with God (1978), Life on Another Planet (1983), A Life Force (1988), To the Heart of the Storm (1991), and over 40 pages of originals from The Spirit (1940–1952) newspaper section.

I'm debating whether or not I should go since it would be a good networking opportunity for me to find some new leads.

On a related note, MoCCA Fest is at the end of this month so that's another thing to check out. I'll definitely be volunteering there again since it's always fun.

Heads up NYC GAF, there's a strong snowstorm signal for the metro area, and the rest of the east coast for next Monday/Tuesday.

It could be a snow to rain event, but there is a decent chance at a full snow event with a substantial amount of accumulation.

So I'm possibly spending next weekend in New York, looking like staying in the Battery Park area.
What's that area like? How is it for things like restaurants on an evening?

What parts of New York are best to go to for shopping? And how easy/expensive is it to get there from Battery Park, probably by Taxi?

I heard it's going to be a foot of snow.

This is great. There will be like zero customers at my job. I'm already excited

Battery Park gets pretty quiet in the evening, because the Financial District empties out after work. I dunno how that translates to choice of restaurants on weekends, though. What kind of shopping are you looking at? Times Square and midtown have plenty of options.

Used to live there, it's pretty much full of places designed to serve lunch to working crowds, since that's what most people go there for. The only people you'll really see in that area outside of working hours are tourists, so it's oddly kind of quiet. That being said, Chinatown and lower East side / East village are walking distance (long ish walk but a lot to see), and it's nice to be there since you have access to most train lines pretty easily

I work in the bateery park/ finalcial district area.

Best place to go clothes shopping in that area is brooksfield place/mall/plaza whatever it is.

Although the stores are of the more highend side. Not much to shop there. In the evenings it is dead during weekdays.

It's next Saturday.

Oh d'oh!

So yeah, my old boss use to put her winter clothes in storage in the spring and spring in the winter, etc

And have to wonder how she would survive something like last week, I've gone through like all levels of my wardrobe and continue to do so!

Can't wait for the blizzard tomorrow, perfect day to finally start playing MGS5
Surely there are better ways to spend your snow day? I'm just gong to hang out and play Horizon, which I find better at being an open world game and story driven game than MGS V. That game just broke my heart and I love MGS games.

I'm happy that I don't have a current gen console since I would have fallen super behind on my work, had lots of angry people sending me messages, and a hobo beard. Although if I had my pick, I would like to have been playing Yakuza 0 on a snow day. I did order Hyrule Warriors Legends, Dragon Quest 8, and Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse a few days ago though during Target's B2G1F sale. Those games will remain sealed though since I still haven't called Nintendo to transfer my licenses/eShop games over to my N3DS because I haven't had luck running the Homebrew Channel.

I also just blew 70 bucks on a bunch of Udemy courses that I wasn't planning on buying at all. I wonder if any of you guys have ever had any luck selling stuff on the BST thread since I'm going to look at it again for selling stuff. I never had any bites. I wouldn't mind working a snow shoveling gig tomorrow if it means extra cash and a sore body assuming my appointment doesn't get canned.

At best this snowstorm will be overhyped as per usual with March snowstorms. At worst, it'll be a Noreaster with power lines knocked out and people stuck inside in places where the city didn't plow through.

I have a huge backlog, I play what I enjoy and my enjoyment trumps completing my backlog. I was playing Nioh till the cheapness of it reduced my enjoyment. That game is not a post work game at all.

By the time I get to playing Horizon it will be $20-30 (the GOTY version at that lol), I've saved a lot of money by only playing games once I've beaten the previous games I purchased.
