I'm planning a weekend trip to NYC to catch one of my fav shows RENT (it stopped playing in the West End a few years ago) and thought I'd catch another show while I'm there.

I've heard good things about Wicked - anyone seen it and care to comment (musically and story wise)

I'm going to see it in the middle of August. Tickets are tough to find, though, so plan ahead. I've heard great things about it as well.

I saw it last year when my parents were visiting and I have to say I loathed it. I thought the production was bloated, overwrouhgt and boring all at once. I saw Wicked the same weekend I saw Avenue Q and there was no comparison. I HIGHLY recommend seeing Avenue Q over Wicked, especially if you liked Rent. Q has an amazing sense of humor, wit and heart. Plus it won the Tony over Wicked last year.

Thanks I'll check out Avenue Q - saw that recommended a few places too

As for getting tickets for Wicked, with a $26M advance I was expecting some difficulty :D

I don't think it was a total loss, as it was a great visual treat at times. But you're pretty much right on in both your dismissal of Wicked and reccomendation of Avenue Q.
