Obi-Wan Kenobi |OT| Hello there…

The Good:
Vader doing that Episode 9 thing on the ship
Vader fighting with just the force. Badass.

The bad:
Oh boy. Where to start? Stormtroopers again shown as the worst marksmen in the entire movie business. Standing right in front of everyone and not able to hit the target? Even clone troopers where better in shooting Jedi.
CGI looked so bad, especially the ships exiting the Star Destroyer.
Flashback was nice, but didn’t really bring anything new to the table. Though Hayden still looks good, even if they didn’t de-age him.

Nah people would've hated it because it would've been the Prequels on steroids. And people complain about Star Wars being made up as they go along would be even more pissed, because George was basically going to make TLJ, then sell Lucasfilm and then let the new owner figure out how to end the trilogy.
I would have loved it :p

I skipped watching The Rise of Skywalker

Duel of the Fates was a good script, but it would've been directed by a guy whose last two movies were absolute total dogshit. Hell people think Book of Henry is the REAL reason Trevorrow was fired from Star Wars.
Yeah that’s true Treverrow is a horrible director but the script was good: it’s too bad JJ didn’t use the script but it does feature a lot of Leia and at that time the deep fake stuff used in Mando wasn’t ready for Prime time.

Season 5 Finger Guns GIF by Curb Your Enthusiasm

Finally some decent stuff.

Flashbacks scenes. Yellow hero droid. Solid music and looks more like a star war. Vader Soul Calibur fight was neat.

Vader: Have a broach, Grand Inquisitor.
Anakin: Time to kill younglings again, ah yiss.

These people are demanding that Disney hire George Lucas to remake the Sequel Trilogy based on their hatred of TLJ. I think Disney should do that. Because the outrage and nutbar conspiracy theories when they realize that George's Episode VII was The Last Jedi but with more Midichlorians would be worth it to watch.
The original cut of Star Wars was allegedly terrible. It's well reported it was saved in the edit by his wife (who won the Academy Award for it, btw). George is even quoted saying that Empire Strikes Back is Irvin Kershner's film, not his. This isn't meant to disparage or downplay George's role in Star Wars. It's meant to acknowledge a fraction of the massive talent involved in making those movies.

George deserves credit for having a deep understanding of universal storytelling and creating this fantastical idea. Other people deserve credit because they knew how to make good movies. There was a perfect marriage of the two that gave us the OT.

Someone needs to make a gif of Vader stopping Reva’s swing with the force, kicking her, then force grabbing the other saber. That’s probably the dopest little sequence since Qui Gon and Obi-wan vs Maul.

This episode was way better than the others.

First the flashbacks

Finally some new scenes between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Felt fresh and cool. Plus it was a lightsaber fight.

Vader kicking ass was plain awesome.

The ship scene was fantastic, guy went berserk.

Just a shame Reeva lives. This is clearly a Disney show, otherwise she would have gotten the Dooku treatment.

I take it you never saw Rogue One.

the Dooku treatment
I actually expected the “treatment” when Vader stood there with two sabers. Would have been such a cool move and would be memed into infinity. But nooo, “there’s another”.

Remember that this show was planned to be a movie, not a series. And would have been topped by Rogue One AND Solo.

Rey in ROTS

I totally forgot about that, I guess due to the way it was shot and the tone of the scene it as easier to take seriously. She couldn't slam it to the ground either.

It felt like a Saturday morning cartoon thing in the Obi-Wan show. The ship is also much bigger than the ship Rey holds onto. ALSO, Vader smashes the first larger ship to the ground, rips off it's walls and then lets the smaller and lighter ship escape? C'mon, he should have been able to force "pull?" that smaller ship as well, right?

It seemed like by the time he noticed the thing was gone. I guess he didn’t have time to do anything that quick?

Yeah, I felt the same way about the Rey scene as well. Hell, I didn't even like when Palpatine was flinging those Senate seats in Episode 3. I love the Prequels, but I can still critique them. All this willy-nilly use of the force just rubs me the wrong way. Seeing Yoda focus to slowly lift large objects like the X-Wing or the aforementioned Senate seat seems a lot more in-line with what the force should be. Concentrate, meditate, feel the world around you, etc, etc.

You can almost make an exception for Vader/Anakin because of his special nature, but it still comes off a bit absurd. I mean, it was kind of cool to see Vader just go a bit ape-shit for once, but yeah...definitely felt a bit "Saturday morning cartoon" as you put it, lol.

As for your last point, how the hell would they even get away even if they eluded Vader's force grip? Wouldn't Vader have set up some sort of aerial blockade or something? Why the hell would they not get immediately swarmed once the giant hangar door opened? Just nonsensical shit.

So disney has got all this money and couldn’t throw a filter to de-age obi-wan and anni in the flash backs? 😒

This is gonna sound odd but hear me out

1. Everyone b***ed when they used cg on luke the first time because it didn't look that great admittedly. There were still problems with it in mando s2. So maybe they just said eff it this time as Hayden doesn't really look THAT bad and tbf he looked more cg in AOTC lmfao

2. This is the two characters essentially inserting themselves into oast memories so maybe they are going for a "this is how the characters see themselves" kinda feel instead of just recreating a youthful appearance.

3. If they were gonna cg it I feel like there's no point bringing Hayden on board at all. The big selling point was his return to the franchise so I mean why not just use him

Tag, you're it.
What's happening with the de-aging? Especially after how amazing it was in Boba Fett!

Anyway, we FINALLY had a fight with lightsabers, with some nice moves from Anakin! But... the writing is terrible. I think SW is doomed in live action from now on. Nothing Disney has made was good imo.

The story flow is focus on cool visuals, Lourd Vaydor, retrofit character motivation, more set pieces and action, attempt to make it cohesive, hand wave criticism.

Add more lightsabers as required.

This is what really bugs me about the show. It really looks low budget compared to even the other ones.

This should have been given top priority and budget considering the stars and everything else.
Yup, you can see this in the scene management - almost all of episode was spend in the cave, and I can guarantee one corridor was probably shot multiple times and at multiple angles to give impression the set was larger than it was.

Vader was dope, Anakin flashbacks as well. Everything else was hot thrash.

I think peoples expectations and standards were just incredibly low this episode, I think it's a perfect example of how easily swayed people are.
The episode had just as much if not more stupid than past episodes, and the fight scene at the end wasn't even good, the camerawork just made it seem like it was super cool and dramatic.
But Reva wasn't even trying to hit Vader, she was just spinning around and posing constantly.
The soundtrack was really overbearing too in the episode, it feels so out of place for Star Wars in the fight with Vader in particular it took me completely out of it.
It didn't fit at all.

I dunno why the fuck Vader was even staying on the ship too initially, he could've just gone down there and immediately torn the door open not to mention Reva could sliced it open right away too the bombing of the door was totally pointless in the end.

All it takes tho is Vader doing anything, lightsabers on screen and fanservice flashbacks and people will act like it's actually good when it's just as bad as previous episodes.
Seeing Vader in action WAS cool, but it seriously doesn't make it good...
The choreography in the fight scene with Vader was also just incredibly dumb and made no sense on Revas end.
I get she was being controlled but she clearly wasn't even trying she was just spinning around and posing the whole time.

Pretty much, the problem is that if you just want Vader fight scenes there's amateurs on Youtube who do a significantly better job at it lol.
But I think a lot of people will just watch the fanservice and think that the show itself is good when it's some of the dumbest shit I've seen in a very long time.

I think if every episode had a few of these Anakin/ob1 flashbacks from the movies and even some clone wars storylines I would be much more forgiving of the show. With the angle that Ben is having PTSD from the downfall of the republic and having had to 'kill' his friend.

I'd even let them coming into contact at all before episode 4 slide. One of my issues with the prequels was they didn't develop Anakin and Ob1s friendship enough to make that believable until the Clone Wars.

The fact that the first 4 episodes were mostly bullshit Leia and Reva nonsense is why I dislike Disney Star Wars.

This had been so disappointing. My expectations were clearly too high.

If I don’t see a no-helmet Anakin for more than 3 seconds I’m cancelling my sub.
Wouldn't it lessen the impact of ROTJ to see Vader without his helmet so clearly?

Unless Disney think it's how it should be, watching this show before the OT.

They keep putting young Leia into stupid nonsensical situations. How does she know how to fix...whatever that hell that was? Ugh, Vader is the only thing redeeming this show.
Because they will design a teenage Leia spin-off down the line, so you need to watch another show to make sense of it all. This is the company in charge of abomination that is MCU timeline.

I could be down with a show that has Leia as a secret sith the ENTIRE TIME and reframes the OT and ST as a prolonged battle for the domination of the universe between Leia and Palpatine.

there has never been a single Star Wars movie or show where force poweres made less sense than here.

having varying degrees of control over your powers is something you can do when your character is a padawan or on general not versed in the Force yet... but the degree to which Vader's powers go from ridiculously powerful to useless is kinda ridiculous.

it was dumb the first time they saw eachother where Vader was easily able to grab Obi Wan and drag him across the sand and into the flames. but a moment later when 2 meters of fire are between them he apparently is completely powerless and has to walk around the fire to get Obi Wan... like, wtf? how does that make any sense?

there are so many plot conveniences in this that it's almost comical, not only the Force powers

True but imo decapitating a person would take the show into another level since it's much more focused on a single target and visual.
They didn't show Dooku being decapitated in ROTS. It was still just PG-13. You knew it happened, but you didn't see the blades chop off his head.

Holy shit this episode was just so full of amateurish jank and idiotic directing and choreography. The couldn't even bother de-aging Hayden Christensen the cheap bastards. Now just wait for some random YouTuber to do a deepfake that shits on the efforts of a multi-billion dollar corporation.

I don't even have the words to go on. I give up.
