Oblivion preview at 1up. Framerate issues?

I read a months old Gamepro preview which talked about frame rate issues. It looks like they have not been ironed out yet. :/

The delay of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion left an RPG-sized hole in the heart of the Xbox 360 launch last November, but since then gamers have been comforted by a stream of glorious screenshots and videos that have continually emerged from deep within Bethesda's development lair. This game is definitely going to look good, and when we got a peek at it during the Consumer Electronics Show, our feelings were confirmed, and the frame rate dodginess that marred earlier experiences seems to have been somewhat cleared up. We saw a lovely forest area, leaves stirred by a gentle breeze, a pale winter sun filtering through the canopy, and everything sparkling with that next-gen sheen we've come to associate with 360 games. A stone castle interior also looked impressive, with highly textured rough stone walls and a cavernous sense of scale.

With the game now due in stores in March, it seems like the delay has been worth it. While the framerate is still not as smooth as we'd like, everything we've seen makes us more eager than ever to plunge into Oblivion's world. Let's just hope a few civilians make it out without being lit on fire

I hope Bethesda can clean up the frame rate on the 360 version before release. My PC isn't exactly up to snuff anymore, so I decided to wait for the 360 version. It'll be disappointing to have a ton of stutters in the console release. There is some time left though!

It sounds like they mostly cleaned it up and I don't think anyone honestly expected it to be smooth as butter considering Bethesda's previous efforts.

Sounds like they've mostly cleaned it up and are still working on it. This, and tweaking the Radiant AI was the reason for the delay... so what's the issue here?

Well, the same problems were present in the Morrowind Xbox version, but this didnt' prevent it from being a great game. I think this is the kind of game where you can forgive some slowdowns.

Personally I can't stand games with framerate problems, I'd rather lesser visuals and a smooth framerate. Be it 30 or 60. I don't care which, just as long as it's smooth.

I just watched all six Demo chapters and the only problems I could see were some slight jumps in the arm/sword/sheild animation in first person. The environments looked pretty damn seamless.

And pretty!

Judging from the sheer functionality, this game is going to be pretty damned amazing, even if the NPC animation is a bit clunky and voice acting is slightly cheesy. They showed arrows hitting a well bucket and the well bucket reacts and the you can retreive the arrows from the bucket and the bucket reacts. A completely, fully functioning 3D world.

With skeletons.

It willbe down to the wire on which version I get... but if the framerate has issues on the 360, then I might just go with the PC ver... my PC is a year old (X850XT card) and should be able to produce comparable visuals...

The newest Game Informer says that the framerate issues they saw earlier have been cleared up.

The other technical aspects of he game have improved greatly since we saw them last, most noticably the smoother framerate.

Nice to hear Bethesda has a handle on things. Now if we can get an assurance about low bug occurances...

I totally wouldn't risk this game without patch support on a console. Do they plan on patching on XBL? I never could find a definate answer.

I don't think they've said one way or another, but I'm counting on it. There's no reason to suggest otherwise, since Live already offers the capability.

Rumored where?

Just a friend of a friend type of thing (not as worthless info though :P ). You can take it as you will but Bethesda seems to really want to clean this game up as much as they can.

Cool, thanks! :)
