I managed to fix the compression issues I had with Link. I think it was running in software mode due to old drivers. Wow! What a difference that nVidia hardware acceleration makes!

At this point I really couldn't be happier with my Quest 2 as an upgrade for my CV1. I am going back and playing all my favorites and they're so crisp and clear now.

What exactly did you do, just update the nvidia drivers, or did you change any other settings?

Just updated my drivers. If you have an RTX (20 or 30 series) card there's some extra hardware accelleration that improves performance but also (at least for me) made a tremendous difference in the apparent quality and color reproduction. Half Life Alyx loading screens no longer look like artifact soup.

Any impressions? Curious about this one

Asked for a refund. It was a hard one for me though, mainly because I'd rather wait for the PC version and for whatever DLC is coming. You could see they did a really good job, but cannot help but think what another year could of done to the game, how much more of an epic game could be created by just simply allocating more resources and time. For instance a lot of the mechanics are pretty good, holstering/having health on wrists/ inverse kinetics/ some physical interaction. Pretty good inventory system.

But guns can go through each other, hands go through objects, it's too short, gets repetitive fast. This one needs a bit more time in the oven. But it shows that a Star Wars game in VR does have the potential to be something epic.

There's so much you can take advantage with in VR, but often developers are just too rushed to release a product. For instance what if you could push over the slow walking droid, or simply punch the floating spheres.

Just for that bit of comedic wow factor.

It feels a lot more "gamey" compared to Vader Immortal, for better and for worse. Like it has missions, and a life bar, and money and it's less linear. But it's also a little more contrived, a little less cinematic, it doesn't have a movie-quality script like Vader Immortal did. Graphics are great for the hardware, good vibes. It's no Stormland as far as mission-based VR FPS go, though.

I sold my Vive to buy an Index, but the Quest 2 is incredibly tempting.

If black friday brings around some great deal (not that it isn't already), I'll bite.

I miss VR, and the prospect of carrying it around to friends and family (once this madness is over, that is), is a great added feature.

it's made for a mobile chip primarily, because that's where the money is at. so don't expect top desktop graphics nor collision physics everywhere. For a Quest 2 game, this is crazy good looking and polished. For me, it beats most stuff running on psvr on PS4 Pro and that is telling.

and it's an episodic series, which is a good thing considering the small storages we're dealing with. At 6GB it already quite hit my free space... though I wonder if I'll be able to get further episodes without this installed... Anyway, if you're not rushing on easy as streamers do, I guess this is about a 5+ hours game, which is about same as many other top native VR games. With 3 episodes, a 15 hour SW full game. Hopefully the jetpack gets a real upgrade in further episodes...

Index is still the premium option, I think, although wireless is a big bonus especially if you have a big space to stomp around in.

But honestly I feel like Quest 2 is the second best PC headset on the market right now, which is pretty wild considering it's the also pretty much the cheapest. Tracking is way, way better than Reverb G2 and the resolution and FOV are only slightly lower.

it's not just about having big space, it's also you can carry it with you everywhere and still have very awesome VR games to play

I don't have a big space myself, it's about the minimum allowed in TraVRsal or Tea for God. Still, it's enough to show how so much better roomscale VR is without cables - I'm playing Quake without ever touching right stick for turning, I just turn my body, which is also far less nausea-inducing than in-game turning even for vets...

I'm really enjoying the Virtual Desktop update, the new environment is quite something to behold on the Quest2, when you look out of the window, it looks like life video footage was used, can see the cars driving. It sure as hell beats a still image/texture. It's pretty damn cool sitting in front of a virtual computer, then jumping into an actual game wirelessly and having it run flawlessly.

Yea, looks great with the moving cars and lights, more like the real thing.

Soo far im really happy with my Oculus Quest 2, the only thing i would consider not soo good is the field of vision, is a bit narrow IMO.

Any comparisons of the Quest 1 vs 2 graphics, not just the screens? Any games making significant use of the spec increase? On one hand I’m curious, on the other hand I might be better not knowing what I’m missing...

Airports seem to be a good place to use it, not sure I would play there. My brother once brought his Quest with me on a car ride omw to a hospital visit, He tried to play it as I was driving but the accelerometers caused him tracking problems. He created a guardian before I drove off and as I drove away he said the guardian floated behind him.

While I popped into the hospital for my appointment he stayed in the car and played the Quest, I can only imagine the looks he must have got from people walking to their cars and some guy just playing VR in the front seat. He didn't care, but I think I would myself.

I am jealous of someone not giving a shit like that, being able to put on a headset and take you away from the shitty waiting area you are in sounds like the future to me. Looking forward until it becomes the norm.

Most games seem to get a resolution bump regardless of specific support. One of the really obvious changes is the way it handles fixed foveated rendering; not only less aggressive, but also it softens the areas that are rendered at lower res, so it's much more subtle; it looked really bad on Quest 1.

A handful of games have actually enhanced graphics on Quest 2; Walking Dead, Red Matter, and Arizona Sunshine I know for sure. WD and AZ seem to have more detail/more objects in scene, where Red Matter (which was already a flagship game for graphical capabilities of the Quest) gets higher res textures and pushes LOD out further, in addition to the aforementioned resolution bump.

Kinda surprised that most people don't care at all, at best they give him a quick glance and move on lol. I think even 5 years ago everyone would have been looking at him like an alien.

flatties just go by thinking: "look, one of those elitist autistic 3D nuts in the wild. Don't pay attention, honey. We'll be back at pushing buttons in front of our cozy small flat screen soon."

I've had my Quest 2 since Friday, and I'm incredibly impressed with what this unit is capable of. The inside-out tracking works ridiculously well, I don't really understand how it can be so accurate. The only issue is that after not using it for some time it will quite often forget my guardian so that I have to redo it. But once it's set up I kinda can't believe how accurately the boundaries stay exactly where I drew them and how well the headset tracks your movement in 3D space. The controller tracking is also super accurate, but that seems like a simpler problem to solve.

I've only used it standalone so far, and I'm also rather impressed with the visuals this thing can handle (and that's just with regular Quest games, as I don't think many are really optimized for the Quest 2 yet). Ben having a lot of fun with Beat Saber, Superhot and Eleven Table Tennis (anyone who enjoys table tennis needs to give this one a go, it feels pretty much like the real thing, the physics are brilliant).

Then, sure, everything is not perfect. The resolution is a massive step back after being used to gaming on a 4K TV, the FOV is rather small, the godrays around text and other bright elements bother me a bit, etc, but once I'm in the middle of some immersive experience I don't really think about it.

Just one silly question: If you guys log in at https://secure.oculus.com/my/devices/, do you see your Quest 2 registered there? I don't. Right now I guess it doesn't really matter, but I just wonder why mine hasn't properly registered. I'm sure I'm on the correct account.

Also, every time I try to purchase a game on the store on the headset itself it says that something went wrong, but then the purchase actually goes through anyway. If I do it through the phone app it works as expected.

I finally sorted out the issues I was having with virtual desktop.
I gave it a good couple of hours playing Half Life Alyx yesterday evening and it was working flawlessly.
There was no latency that I could detect. It felt like I was on cable.

It's a game changer.

I have a CV1, Rift S, Quest and Quest 2 all have been used on my Oculus account yet none of them show up on that page you linked.

An Oculus device isn't registered to your account at the moment. Set up an Oculus headset to get started.

is what I see and I've had an oculus account since the CV1 days.

Alright, guess that connection is just broken then.

It may complain it has not found boundaries some times but walk around the play area for a bit and it remembers... I think it does a quick scan of the environment and check if it matches what there's in memory - and there can be several different play areas. I think light conditions may get the tracking confused sometimes...

Btw, the resolution may not be like a 4K tv away from you, but it's dead on impressive specially if you never tried VR before to know what was SDE. Also, display resolution is very high, but very few experiences are using it, most are rendering well below what's possible. Experiences that are very high resolution and should be pretty much HD TV like: demo for Superhot and animations in Quill Theater (when you check HD on the tablet)

forget borders: edges of lenses will always be blurry. Turn your neck more than your eyes if you want to look around... I find the sweet spot large and crisp enough.

Seems like I have to redo the guardian pretty much every time I start the Quest up again. But then it keeps it perfectly while I'm using it, so I don't know what the issue is.

looks like Crash without enemies - indies really hate enemies, don't they? Either straight don't have or are just stupid ragdolls/zombies ready to get killed.

anyway, I'm not in VR to play platformers. But always good to lure some extra flatheads aboard...

Astrobot was great wasn't it? I'm not saying this will be on the same level, but at least graphically it looks decent.

Yes mate, Astro-Bot is one of the best VR titles ever made. VR is not just about FPS gameplay, its enhances all types of genres. Platformers are just as vaild in VR as anything else, looking forward to checking it out.

Hey, we did it, boyz! Well, actually reddit did!

Asgard's Wrath for every new Q2 owner! :messenger_sunglasses: :messenger_fire:

I already own it, so it doesn't personally affect me, but this is dope, it's a very good game, definitely one of the best long-form single player VR games.

It's also a pretty aggressive play to bring Quest owners into the PC VR market, which I really appreciate. With Oculus retiring the Rift line, there's a lot of worry that the PC marketplace is gonna languish, so it's good to see them trying to bring people in.

For my money Alyx wireless on Quest might be better than Index.
Besids that being possible. Yeah.
i didn’t want to make this a vs what thing.
but quest2 really shook the PCVR community. With its aggressive price point.

i was one of those that called bullshit on VD working at all. It shouldn’t. But yeah it does.

meanwhile i can’t have a steady wireless connection on steam link. And i ALWAYS pick wired on both ends..

So believe me when i say VD has surprised me.
i played like half of alyx on VD 🤣

By the way, the new version of VD 1.18 came out a few days ago, and is really good. It greatly reduces network latency, and it gives your tools to better report the full motion-to-photon latency and understand the things that are creating latency and tweak them. Thanks to the increased overhead, I was able to turn on buffering, which meant a smoother experience, while still keeping the latency comparable to a wired connection. Compatibility improved as well, Stormland and Defector work now.

I already own Doom 3 BFG. Would that still work?
No, it has to be the none BFG edition.

In other news, PokerStarsVR now supports 90hz. I reccomend to not sleep on this really fun free game, it is best if you find some adults, usually the higher stakes tables have more mature people on them. This game is one of my favourite relaxed VR games. Come home, chill on my couch and play some Poker with some mature randoms has been some of my favourite experiences.

They also have silly toys you can play with like cigars, or donkeys or donkeys that can smoke cigars.

I loaded SideQuest the other day and wanted to send a shout out to "Shooting Arena" and "Aim XR."
Both of these games have taken up the majority of my Quest 2 playtime.
Shooting Arena reminds me of Point Blank from the PSOne days - minus the humor - but incredibly fun and you want to keep playing to beat your score/time.
Aim XR is similar to Counterstrike and I've really enjoyed it as well. I should probably try out Pavlov's Shack as they seem similar.
Anyway, fun as hell, don't miss out.

Gotta get SideQuest installed and try out some stuff. I've been busy with stuff from the official store so far (just got the headset on Friday).

I asked about this before, but nobody replied, so I'll try again:

Every time I try to purchase a game on the store on the headset itself it says that something went wrong, but then the purchase actually goes through anyway (I can find the game in my library and install it from there). If I do it through the phone app it works as expected.

Anyone else have this issue?

Yeah that happened to me the one time I bought a game from the headset's store. I Have been using the mobile app ever since so can't tell you if it is a constant bug or a rare one.

I think so far I've only purchased through the headset itself, no issues. There was initially the pin issue, but I reset it though the app.

My payment is credit card.
