Oculus Rift - Dev Kit Discussion [Orders Arriving]

Wow, Emart is blown away by the new VR demo that was crafted by excellent Kite & Ligthtning dev team.

^ possibly new thread worthy :)

OH MY GOD

Thread-worthy without a doubt.

Make the title something that really describes the wow factor in some way.

Literally had tears of joy there for a moment.

The fucking future, man. It is going to be ridiculous.

EDIT: I'll do the thread. It needs to happen.

So I just picked up an indie game on Steam called "Among The Sleep" (been following its development since last year, but only just realised it was actually released recently)... played the first chapter and bloody hell, new best Rift game/experience right there!

Anyone with a Rift, I highly recommend giving this a go at the earliest opportunity.

Damn, looks like I can't get VR Cinema to work properly unless with K-Lite Codec Pack. And I rather not deal with codec packs now that I have MadVR, LAV, and Reclock setup to my liking.

Every time this thread pops up to the top I think for a minute the title means DK2s are arriving and rush to look.

:(

Oddly this hasn't happened to me until today, so I enjoyed this post.

I'm trying to put together a list of "must try" VR demos prior to DK2 arriving next month. Anyone already do something like this that they could share?

Already have my folder prepped and prepared, though I am missing a few demos here and there. Already have most of the Star Trek demos, which my friend will love.

Agreed!

The intro was really cool! Mom is pretty hot eh? I kept trying to kiss her. ;-)

All I need is UE4.

Not really, but that's far and away what I'm most excited about toying with.

I will be getting a DK2 next month and want to prepare for it. Are there currently any must have peripherals for the oculus rift? Or is keyboard/mouse and a control pad sufficient?

There's a few demos that make use of the Razer Hydra but a gamepad is fine really. The most interesting Hydra application was to give the DK1 positional tracking so that's redundant already...

really getting psyched for DK2 to arrive next month. hopefully they've fixed some of the issues people were having who wore glasses with DK1 (tight fit).

I'm pretty much dependent on my glasses, but I don't really plan on wearing it for DK2. I'm near-sighted so I hope that helps me a bit. Lol

Far-sighted is usually preferred since you can just use the A-cups. If you're near sighted you'll have to try both the B and C cups to see which is better for you. In my experience people can usually find one which works well.

As someone who wears glasses though, I also hope that it's better with your glasses on. I never use my DK1 with glasses because it's such a tight fit that I fear they will break.

Sadly that will do the opposite of helping. Since the Rift's optics are focused at infinity, it is actually farsighted people who can get a comfortable glasses free experience.

Is anyone interested in making a new thread for the DK2 when they finally announce the shipping date?

I'm really hoping a date is announced at E3 for the DK2's. We're approaching July and we still don't know when in July the DK2's are set to ship. All I know is that Palmer stated, the very first batch will go to Japan, then US, then EU, then rest of the world.

I tried the sensa demo and it was amazing. Are there any other impressive ones?

Also are there any actual games worth playing with the rift? Like Hawken and all that.

Will they even be at E3?

Do you have a source for the comment? I remember hearing about Japan having priority but I don't remember the rest. I'm really hoping Canada is included with the US and not rest of the world...

You're missing my favorite demo for first-timers: Blocked In. It's a "Virtual Diorama", a room you can't move in or perform actions, just look around. But it tells a kind-of story, and everyone is always wowed by it, by how real the room feels, especially when they turn and look behind them and see light streaming through virtual windows.

I will have to download everything again anyway? Or are DK1 demos compatible with DK2?

Are there more sites than riftenabled with demo databases? I have 20-30 demos I think but it has been a while since I saw something worthwhile. Affected 1.3 or something like that was the absolutely coolest thing I ever saw :lol So good horror.

Palmer just said during a talk with Geoff Keighley that the Consumer version of the Rift will feature better resolution than the DK2 and 90Hz.

well we've always known that its a product that will get better as time goes on

you can wait forever for the consumer version, but a year after that there will probably be a consumer version 2

there's always going to be a moving target with tech like this

Yeah, we've known that for a while now. We still don't know the exact resolution, but I think 2560*1440 is the only one that really makes sense.

Sure. But if I followed the news correctly, before he always said "we will try what we can do", but we can not promise anything.
Now he said that the consumer kit will offer a resolution above 1080p and 90hz Displays.

We werent sure if the CV1 will also just be 1080p, were we?

Oh. Really? Then I didnt follow the news properly. Sorry for that :D

I'm not sure we got a 100% official confirmation previously. I think it was a Palmer reddit post actually.
