Oculus Rift - Dev Kit Discussion [Orders Arriving]

Hey guys... Just paying forward the generosity of a Gaffer who hooked me up with a Lunar Flight 75% off coupon (making it $2.50 on Steam).

Buying it, inexplicably just gave me another 75% off coupon, so if anyone wants it, drop me a PM. :-)

Yup, got another coupon as well. Hit me up with your Steam name via PM, if interested.

I would love the coupon and would pass on to someone else if I get it. Also is the OR support native and worth it?

I also just received my LEAP motion control, did anyone else?

According to some on this thread the support is very good for Lunar. Some have said it is the best Rift experience yet. What are your plans for the Leap? Is there even anything out that supports both?

thanks.

I think google map had a demo out I saw on Internet , and I saw some stuff on the youtube. i

Iracing is a serious online only pc racing sim. Best played with a wheel but not essential. You can get a free 3 month trial if you check the gaf pc racing sim thread

it may not be your cup of tea but if you like racing games you should at least try it to check out how they are with the rift

if anyone has a lunar flight code I'd appreciate one. Steamid is mrklaw

at one point he spins out and is off the road and without thinking looks over his shoulder to see if the road is clear to get back in the race. wow.

Thanks for the input. I don't wear a jumpsuit while playing racing games but I am tempted to try it once I get the Rift. Any other games with support coming on the horizon!?

I play iracing, its pretty hard core and it might be playable without a wheel, its strongly recommended that a wheel is used. Its really good!

What wheel would you recommend. I have seen good comments on the Logitech G27, although it ain't cheap! I am kinda scared that I may fall down a new black hole, then again I got Euro Truck Sim on the Steam Sale so maybe I can use it for other games!

Personally I have the Thrustmaster T500RS though its complete overkill for someone entering the sim racing market..

The G27 is a great wheel though and VERY popular! Its something you'll be able to use with each new PC sim release that comes out so its future proof

Ah cool, completely did not realise that I got a TF2 hat code with my Oculus order (that's how old it is) currently in processing. Were these worth anything? I've played a total of 0.1 hours of it since TF2 went free to play. :P

Our only source on that is still the slides they showed at an nvidia conference with a devkit 2 in q3 2013 and consumer version q3 2014. It's dependent on getting lots of software support and the right hardware so that it doesn't launch in a way that could end up killing VR again, so no rushing and these projections are only guess by oculus

HD Dev model is going to be announced the day my kit arrives.

Edit: In that iracing video when the guy playing raised his hand at the beginning I thought it was in game at first and audibly gasped, lol.

I don't check the thread for a couple of days and suddenly there's eroge support? Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeittttttt.

Edit: Can't figure out how to install this update, so I can't relay how ridiculous this mod is. Sorry guys. I can't tell for sure, but I think it requires the update to use that onahole controller thing, and I don't have that.

Check ebay. They were in the $50-$100 range at one point, but I don't know if that trend has held.

Holy shit, I thought the G27 was expensive at 2 and change. But after converting from pounds to dollars that Thrustmaster is over 600!! Wow, I can see how this hobby can get expensive.

pardon the ignorant questions, but does OR require the system to basically render twice as much as it would displaying on a regular screen at 720p?

if this were to be compatible with home consoles, couldnt a 1080p game just be rendered at 1080i with each screen getting the alternating scan lines? does the game having to render two different scenes (even if only slightly to mimick eye spacing) require significantly more overhead?

Yes, T500 is uber expensive. As for budget wheels, best ones are Drive Force GT, G25 and G27. G27 has best mix of motor, shifter and pedals, truly great wheel.

I think someone said it was "not quite twice as much power" to render a scene twice, which is what is needed for viewing on the Rift (it's one screen split in half with each eye receiving its own image). 1080i is 30fps isn't it? The framerate being as high as possible is important to the experience, so I don't think it would be worthwhile.

I am saving for the G27, I've already spent too much money getting Rift "compatible" games. And the Wii Zapper/PS3 Move controller for the HL2 experience. I am "Rifting up"!

Hey, I used the Lunar Flight 75% off coupon that I got from Gustav and just like him I got a new one. If anyone wants it simply send me a message with your Steam's username. And it's gone!

And about the G27... I'm wondering if it will also be compatible with the PS4. Probably not, I guess? Maybe it'd be wiser to wait and see if a new one comes out this winter? No idea.

I feel like my $$ saved for next gen consoles should go to Oculus. Its to bad the consumer model wont be available around the same time as the next gen consoles.

:-O

One of my favorite Rift games is getting a big update soon!

It's been a while since I gave an update on Proton Pulse Rift. Things are wrapping up nicely though.

The game currently has
  • 48 Levels
    5 Boss Fights
    5 Ball Upgrades
    Full Screen Effects
    Enhanced Shaders
    Cinematics
    Improved Menu Navigation

Many of the levels are more dynamic than ever. Levels that move as you play. I keep the score and paddle at a fixed point so there is no motion sickness when the larger objects begin to move.

One of the boss fights is a forward moving rail event.

I'm still working out the devilish details, but it won't be long.

I decided to buy the Dev kit once E3 finished. Sorry I don't want either console on launch (PS4 down the line) now that I have a 670 SLI PC!! Jeez I never thought I would become a PC gamer.

How often do major shipments of the rift go out? I think judging by the size of the last big shipment I could be in the next. Is it weekly, biweekly, monthly or real pattern?

So... I find Euro Truck Simulator oddly addicting despite hating driving games, and incoming Oculus Rift has me day-dreaming about the total experience.

Now, i'm not crazy enough to do this yet... but lets say i'm looking for a cheap-ish steering-wheel for PC... are there any that don't use pedals, or have buttons you can map those functions to?

Much like in my real life, disability proves a tricky thing to work around in the automobile world. :-p

Sorry to say, but it seems that if you were in the next batch, you probably would've been moved to "processing" and received the email. A bunch of us did over the course of the last week or so.

That said, the company filling the OR orders claims that by end of August ALL orders will have gone out. If they really are filling such a huge batch in the next couple weeks, it stands to reason they might be able to keep their word on that.

here is some iRacing Gameplay with Oculus

Looks like Oculus will become a must have for real race fans after it does not have the low resolution anymore. :D

I let out a serious "damn it!!!" while I watched this. This is seriously not funny anymore. I want this thing sooo bad. A racing game, especially iRacing, in the OR is like a dream come true for me. I want to get a fanatec racing seat, clubsport wheel, and clubsport pedals, strap this thing to my head and never take it off. But the damn dev kit version is the only thing that's holding me back. Everyone is making it so damn hard for me to hold back, it's driving me absolutely insane!

Anyone else considering getting a shaker bass for use with the rift? For headphones I have ATH-M50s and the bass and sound quality is fantastic, but any physical sensations the bass gives is localized to my head, something like this dedicated bass that pretty much just vibrates whatever its attached to may do an excellent job in giving adding physical sensations while in VR while in a chair
