Oculus Rift DK2 Thread

But its for sale and believe me, it worth the $ 75 !

If only I knew if I would be able to run it without any jitter/jutter/jatter. I would probably be all over it and ordering a HOTAS on Amazon.

But that doubt ... that doubt ... it keeps me from purchasing anything I would use mostly in the Rift. I understand it's a great game but I wasn't really into sim racers until I got a wheel and I doubt I'd play ED much without the DK2.

Got my Rift hours ago, but still haven't opened the box because of work. :/

Hopefully I can get some time to play with it before going out for the Guardians of the Galaxy premier tonight.

OMFG... Elite.. Elite can have my babies... My "presence" moment came when I flew under the rings of a planet on my way to Beagle 2.. Those rings were FUCKING HUGE... LIKE FUCKING HUGE. JESUS... They were something to behold.

I literally at that moment had a moment of respect for how fucking huge our universe is... I literally felt so so tiny under those rings.

What a bummer. Looks like my DK2 might be fucked. Plugged it in and got it working fairly easily yesterday. Messed around for a couple hours and then today tried some more demos and now to lose connection or something. The image (application or windows desktop) flickers in and out. Plugged in through HDMI or DVI doesn't matter. Didn't change a thing. It just sat here waiting for me to use it again. Light on the top goes from blue to orange as this happens. Other monitors don't do this when using the GPU's ports :( I wonder if it's some weird USB issue since that's what gives it the power right?

Are the plugs loose on the headset itself? There is a cover in the middle that slides off for the USB and HDMI.

Also, I'm getting a weird stuttering whenever I turn my head. I don't think it's a problem of low FPS, because everything runs perfectly well if I hold my head still. This is only happening in everything except the official test room and the Tuscany demo in the SDK.

Is this happening to anyone else?

Yep, same here. It happens when I disable aero and goes away when I enable it. But when I enable aero, I get the vertical sync tearing.

Looks like it's the HDMI cable. Tried another one and no more issues. Gonna have a blue HDMI cable velcroed along this other one till I see if I can get it replaced I guess.

Can this be played with the xbox controller? Thinking about buying it

Tried Totoro. Motion blur was horrible and in the dark area my left eye is noticeably darker than the right.

Direct mode doesn't seem to work with anythimg I've tried yet.

Yo, Elite Dangerous. Just admiring the starts when all the sudden you see a player above you about to dive bomb your ass. Soooo good.

Yeah tried the totoro demo with my new 770 and it's all black everywhere, i mean really dark. It's funny cause with the amd card it was tepid, everything was tepid in all the demos. Now it's super contrasted, but i see the black drip. i'm not sure about the dark area but my 3d was weird when i got there.

About the judder issue i still have some of it in Radial-G despite having a good framerate now, but i have to play with duplicate screens and a lower rez..

I am 90% for sure buying this damn game tonight!! The recommendations posted here and elsewhere sound like this is one DK2 experience not to miss.

Two questions, how does it run on a 2GB 670 or equivalent, and how does it play with a controller?

Just tried the Radial-G demo without the oculus (mine comes tomorrow!). Not bad at all. The fact that you turn just as fast as the fastest rotating "zone" is crucial. Looks and feels great to track the rotation and weave in between the power down zones.

Do the games have better motion tracking than the demos?
The motion sickness improvement from DK1 is pretty much just slowing down the buildup of nausea.

Kinda sucks, oh well at least i can recuperate my expenses.

Well damnit...

UPS was supposed to deliver my DK2 today but for whatever reason didnt make it out. O normally wouldnt be so annoyed but its the DK2 AND this sorta of thing happens way more than it should in my area.

I just tried Ocean Rift - very cool experience.

[Actual spoiler for this demo]
What the fuck I nearly shit my myself. I've read several impressions and recommendations and never once did I see the jump scare mentioned. Is that time-based or do you trigger it by entering a certain area? Or did I just not notice it?

Glad you liked it! :)

Well I did warn you not to go into the deep! Maybe you missed the message. It's based on proximity. Basically the Shark has a roaming area around the volcano and if you get too close it attacks. You are perfectly safe on the upper parts.

Just received my unit, but they packaged two positional tracker USB cables... They didn't include a positional sync cable and can't use my rift... Anyone else get screwed?

I think fall 2015 at the earliest. Maybe preorders at e3. I hope to have something finished by then.

Secretly my whole post was me praying it would be sooner than later because I decided to hold off on the DK2 and just wait for the CV1. I've gotten pretty extensive use of the DK1 and am absolutely sold on it, I just figured it would be in my interest to hold off until effectively the 3rd iteration came out. Reading all the impressions here are making me sad I canceled my DK2 order.

LOL that's the best part! Watching other people's reactions is usually gold.

so I cant seem to get anything to actually go to my screen except the configuration utility demo and the overworld demo (house demo)...everything else is displaying on my monitor and the camera flicks on but my rift shows the orange standby light and no video goes to it...any ideas?

My tracking is messed up. When moving forward physically, I move backwards in the VR space, opposite when going backwards. Any ideas on a solution?

nevermind went into extended mode to fix

HOLY FUCK CYBERSPACE NOOOOO
I have no plans whatsoever to start with Cyberspace. It'll probably be weeks of getting used to the thing before I go there, and keeping a trash can next to my chair in case I hurl.

Didn't stop me from downloading it, and I don't even have the Rift yet.. lol.

I was able to last about 10 mins tops in DK1.

Today I just spent 3 hours straight playing Technolust, ETS2, Elite and DCS.

Just now I had to stop because I was getting queasy. At the time I was doing Immelmann turns in a P 51 so it might have just been doing that which caused the nausea.

It's 5 mins later now and I'm feeling a bit out it but no where even close to as sick as I felt after using DK1 for 10 mins.

I think you guys are overselling Cyberspace. It's very cool in that you get a little bit of motion sensation without a moving seat, but it's still less of a sensation than the VR rides at fun centers where the seats actually move with the screen and nowhere near the strength of the sensation of actually being on a coaster like that.

Definitely a neat thing, but I can't imagine how it could make anyone feel a fear of heights or anything and I'm a person with a fear of heights in real life.

i literally almost vomit

Am I the only one here who has played DCS?

I think it is one of the most thrilling experiences I've ever had in a videogame. I've flown a real airplane, but I wasn't doing high G aerobatics in it. This is absolutely crazy.

I got that from walking around in Tuscany, but Cyberspace is a little bit of being on a small swing at the park. I wish I could experience extreme sensations of height and speed from stuff like that. Would make it so much more fun.

Looking forward to trying it. I've had 10 hours of flight time in a real cessna 172 so I'm looking forward to seeing how this compares. Track IR in xplane 10 doesn't hold up well to the real thing.

1. https://developer.oculusvr.com/
2. Register
3. Login and download "Oculus Runtime" (and "Oculus SDK for Windows") from https://developer.oculusvr.com/?action=dl
4. Install the Runtime (unpack the SDK, but its optional)
5. Do all the steps in the "Quick Start Guide" (included booklet)
6. Start the "OculusConfigTool"
7. Does it see the Rift?
8. If yes: go to "Tools -> Advanced" and update the Firmware to 2.11 (the directory with the Firmware file should be selected automatically)

These are all the steps I took, if I remember correctly.

Hope this helps!

Just wanted to say that I used your post as an additional start up guide, so even if it was straight forward I appreciate that you posted it!

Firmware updating now.

Edit: Holy shit that is cool.
