Ersan Ilyasova, the 6-9 small forward from Turkey, cancelled a workout Monday with the Houston Rockets, and the belief is he has been promised by some team that it will select him.

Speaking of the Rockets, even though they need a power forward, they will take the best player available at No. 24. Not the best prospect – the best player. They want someone who can come in and contribute immediately.

You don't see other sports fan lingering in the past like you two do!

Considering your team's past consists of Vince Carter being drafted and Vince Carter and being traded and Bowser's team history being that Nelly goes to some of the games, of course we wouldnt expect you guys to talk about the past :P

Bowser, I thought Frye worked out for the Knicks. I'm pretty sure he did actually.

From ESPN's chat with several draft prospects last night:

Greg (Cedar Rapids, IA): Channing, what's the craziest question a team asked you while working you out?

Channing Frye (AZ): Actually, what's funny about that is I haven't done any workouts. So, no questions ... although, I guess the biggest questions was why haven't you done any workouts??

The ShowGirl: Why haven't you?

Channing Frye (AZ): Umm, it just happened to go that way.

Rockets need either a beast of a rebounder or a point guard. I don't buy the take the best player available if the guy plays the same position as T-Mac and won't play more than 10 minutes a month.

Current word is if Luther Head is available at 24, the Rockets will take him. If not, they are in trade talks with Atlanta: #31 and a player for #24.

<Doug Collins> Rockets should draft a scoring guard like Harold Minor!

*Rockets select Robert Horry*

:lol Damn Doug...

Damn, just thinking about it, that fucking last game against Detroit really fucked the Cats over. Not to mention the coin flip that didn't go our way. Not to mention the lottery balls that didn't go our way. Not to mention those 16 games we lost by 3 or less points.

Are we cursed? :(

Holy shit!

Shawn Bradley got picked by the Sixers, and came down to the stage to RIC FLAIR'S MUSIC! :lol

Somewhere in Canada, Bish is giggling.

Any thoughts (ahem, konex/kobex) on Joey Graham? I've seen a couple mock drafts with him getting picked 10th by LAL.

This guy is a physical specimen:

However, I'm torn: if the Lakers picked him, I'll be forced to cheer for Kobe's team. :(

Some more Bill Simmons fun, the top NBA Draft Diary quotes of all time, including this wonderful moment:

No. 20
2002: Memphis (picking fourth) takes Drew Gooden as Dad and I have the following exchange:

–Me: "What do you think of that pick?"
–Dad (staring at Gooden): "That suit has no buttons."

It's moments in time like this(and the Dicky V on-switch from last year) that stick out in your mind and make the NBA draft the best thing to watch in June.

He is just what the Lakers need, another small forward! Pretty soon Mitch Kupcheck's dream of a team composed entirely of small forwards will come true!

P.S. Worst pick ever. Did Konex put you up to this?

Saw it on the NY Times mock draft, thought it was interesting.

I think whoever drafts him will be extremely happy with their returns, but I'm a bit biased (having seen nearly every OSU game in the past two years). He's a beast, and he has a great shooting percentage--he can contribute immediately, which I think the Jackson will want, and he's extremely versatile.

Who do YOU think the Fakers should pick?

(no, konex didn't put me up to this. in fact, I control konex's every move. he'll never admit it.)

I guess Felton if we could get him (which I doubt). I would rather we trade our pick and some of our players to get something we need.

Phil is going to make LA a pretty good defensive team this year and our offense will put up points with or without a point guard (I would of course prefer we had a good point guard though), so the one thing we really need is a big man who is a beast on the boards and has at least some ability to catch and finish. There are not a lot of guys in the draft who fit the bill though so I would rather we trade. Hopefully we can find a team dumb enough to take 2 small forwards for a athletic big. Does New York have any good big rebounding big men left?

Lakers NEED to take Felton. They lost most of their games last year cos:

a. They could not keep speedy PGs in front of them resulting in easy scores or foul trouble for the bigs
b. They didn't at least make other PGs work on defense
c. Kobe had too much responsibility as a SG to create for everyone, score and defend both guard positions
d. Interior defense sucked
e. Turnovers due to lack of ball-handling and court awareness

Felton @ #10 instantly helps with all of those problems except one. A big at #10 doesn't..

The triangle doesn't require a great point guard. Do you really think Phil Jackson is going to run and gun like Phoenix and Dallas? No way, he is going to play the same ball he always does. I would love a great point guard, but it takes at least 2 years to become a great point guard in the NBA. Playing point is ridiculously difficult. Felton is going to be a turnover machine if you expect him to contribute at the point right away. It would not be a bad pick for the future, but the triangle doesn't really need a point guard as it is more about movement and needs everyone to be able to pass well, not just one guy running the show (though it definitely helps to have a guy to run it right).

You don't need the best personal to play great defense, it is about the coach and the system as much as it is about the players. Great player will bail out another player, but Rudy T's drunken style basketball didn't help at either end of the court and Phil will correct our defense so that we are top 10 next year.

Still we do need a point and a guy to rebound, but I doubt we can fill both at once. I would personally rather get a big who can rebound than a point guard who is going to be useless in the triangle.

A legit threat to score or dish at the 1 takes a lot of pressure off Kobe. Triangle or not, a team in today's league is crap with only 1 or 2 guys who can create for themselves AND others...

i love Felton but his offensive talents will be wasted in the triangle, just like Payton. Sure he will give us a 100X defensive upgrade over Sucky Atkins, but a lottery pick isn't worth a player just for their defense. We're gonna go big in the draft, the pg position can be remedied via free agency (Antonio Daniels or Marco Jaric, Lindsey Hunter at the minimum as a backup)

That is just getting a player to do exactly what Kobe does. Granted it never hurts to have more great players, but a slashing and jump shooting guard is not what we need. Plus it doesn't fit in with the triangle at all. Phil will abandon ship before he ditches the triangle.

Honestly, I think Phil will get us a 5 seed with the roster we have now. If we get a defensive and rebounding beast in the power forward spot we might move up to 4 or 3. I thought power forward was the position that killed us more than anything. You can never win a basketball game if you can't control the boards.

:lol :lol

Here we go again, its not an NBA offseason without insane Laker fan predictions.

How about that Tierre Brown, Konex?

So from the same roster, you're expecting a 16-18 game improvement? (5th place last season was 51 wins) Phil's good, but he's not that good. :D

It's not so outlandish considering Kobe and Lamar missed like 40 games combined and the core 3 played only 40 together...

My predictions are much better than Konex's!

Plus Konex is not a Laker fan. If we traded Kobe to the Bulls, Konex would suddenly become a Bulls fan.

And Loki Phil IS that good. Remember, the Lakers were a solid 6 seed with our current team and without Vlade or Devon George for almost 40% of the season(not like he would have made a difference), before injuries just killed us. The biggest thing Phil is going to do is he will get the team to play defense and offense together. Instead of reading the ingredients to various alcoholic drinks, Phil will actually teach the team a system of basketball. I expect the changes to take effect after 2 months and I think it will be pretty dramatic. We will won't win a championship, but the team will be pretty good and we might even knock off the Spurs. :D

I can't fucking stand Jay Bilas. He's wrong about the early picks every freaking year. The analysts, in general, are terrible since the draft moved to ESPN...it's just a bunch of college nute.

Mel Kiper anyone?

From the guy who runs www.draftexpress.com:

And lemme just say on the record that I've been told by an NBA team that Felton is "definitely" going 5, Toronto will take Frye and that teams know something about Bynum that will make the Lakers want to renege on their promise to take him at 10 (and maybe find a way to get Garcia instead).

I should stop know because I could go on and on.

I don't really mind Felton since I'm a Tar Heel fan, but Green might be too good to pass up.

If Granger and Green are on the board and the Raptors take Frye...:lol

Can we say Hoffa 2.0?

Anyway, I think the Spurs will take another french guy. That guy from Real Madrid called Gelablablablablasomething and plays SF. He's supposed to be a good shooter and maybe Bruce could take him under his wing and develop him for the next few years.

How dumb are the Cavs? Giving up a first rounder to get Jiri freakin' Welsch and now trading him for a future secound rounder :lol

Bogut is going to be a bust.

Poor Williams going to be stuck on a horrible horrible team.
