You'll get no argument from me.

Isn't there currently a way to share DS demos and such over the internet? If that could be modified somehow to store and distribute AWDS map files, it could make things so much easier.

Anyway, this sucker is ordered. Can't wait.

omg I just ordered another one for a friend :D

this GameSpot vid reviwe is making it easy for me to sell this game lol :P

so I'm now up to 5 copies :D ... i should get a medal from Nintendo or somehing lol

Doesn't Polarium generate some sort of unique code for puzzles, etc? Why couldn't it be something like that?

It's not hacked... I don't think we're understanding each other, here. Under the "wireless" menu option you can select "trade maps." It works the same way that wireless multiplayer works... they have to be with you.

We're understanding one another, or at least I'm understanding you. I'm saying that's unsatisfactory. We need to find a way to transfer those maps over the INTERNET that doesn't require us copying by hand the map from a picture. They should have instituted that, or at the very least made a custom map generate a unique number that I could give to you, etc. I consider this quite an oversight on their part.

Though Tuesday can't come soon enough.

Only three maps? I was hoping that the increased space on DS carts would lead IS to allow for more. I love experimenting with maps, but I need more than 3 slots.

Yup 3 maps only sucks. Pretty much kills my interest in actually making maps.
How can some GD be so stupid? ;(

There were so close to 10 on 10 game...

I haven't stopped playing either. I got this Friday afternoon, and over the last three days I've played 15 HOURS, according to the game's timer. In that time I've gotten 2/3rds of the way through campaign, messed with Combat and survival a little bit, and completed three of 30 (40?) War Room maps.

That means I still have campaign to beat, then Hard Campaign, then allll the rest of the War Room and the three different survival modes. Then when all THAT is done, I can make some pimp-tight maps.

Advance Wars is literally the only VG series left that I can easily pour 100+ hours into without getting sick of it. I used to be like that all the time, but my patience with games dropped lower and lower, until AW was the only series left.

I got a box from NOA at my store today and I was hoping Advance Wars would be in there but alas it was just nintendogs. Maybe Gamestop or EB will have it today if I'm getting it at my store.

What is the level progression like in the campaign mode?

Is it like AW2 where you get to pick which level you want from a selection of 3 (or so) different levels?

Or is it like AW1 where you do not get to (directly) choose which level you play, and the path you get taken on depends on which CO you chose/how well you did in the previous level?

I really liked AW1's style, since it made replaying the Campaign more varied.

The campaign is completely linear, besides a few lab missions if you found the lab map in the previous level.

Ah, so its like the AW1 set-up, only without the alternate routes? Bummer.

Do you progress through different countries and are forced to choose from only certain COs (like in AW2, when in Blue Moon, you could only choose Blue Moon COs...except for a couple missions where you could choose a back up CO)?

Man, just checking over the options and reading through the manual, it seems like the game's been padded with PLENTY of additional extra content. The classic War Room maps, alone, were a nice touch, IMHO.

You're free to use any combination of two COs you like for any level. As the campaign continues more and more COs become available (you only have a handful at the start), but it isn't like in AW2 where you only had a few to choose from each mission, even at the end. You also can equip different abilities to your COs before every battle, such as an 8% direct fire defense boost, faster movement across plains/forests/whatever, faster capturing, lower unit purchase prices, etc. You can spend a LOT of time deciding what COs to use, and what abilities to give them.

And yes Mej. AWDS is literally the most full-featured AW game to ever be released :)

...you bastards...

Ok, I'm in. AWDS tomorrow, Nintendogs at BB on Wed. ($29.99 - $5 coupon & $5 gift card = :D )

Anybody see the commercial for this yet? Pretty funny IMO. One of the better Nintendo spots in a while.

Not a huge fan of the new Combat mode. Real time action AW? Meh. I'll wait for Battalion Wars. :0

AM a huge fan of the added OOMPH in the music and sound effects! The nice little mode-7/3D-ish flourishes here and there are cool too. And yay for birdies flying over maps! (Can I shoot them down?)

Hmmm I hope it sounds better on my DS. That sounds weird to me for some reason... choppiness. I don't know, it's been forever since I played it. I hope it's just because of the site's rips.

How complicated are the new CO rules? I'm not a big fan of the COs, they skew the gameplay too much for me. I like it pure and simple. I preferred AW1 to AW2.

Oh, and single cart multiplayer? I'm still trying to get people to buy a DS for bomberman, and this would help (as will Mario Kart)

I swear to god, if Nintendo ruins AWDS distribution because of Nintendogs, I will throw rocks at any presence they make at PAX.

Heh, in that regard I got my call from Gamestop about it earlier today :D :D Though on a fun note today, I decided to pay off my preorder in complete. However, I never expected them to have wars ds on demo! Woo, I was all giddy and leaped on it ASAP XD I didn't play too much and only cleared the first mission since I really had to go. My only gripe might have been the touchscreen controls themselves, but that might be the demo stylus's fault. I imagine the default smaller stylus will be a bit more cooperative.

The COs are a more integral part of the experience than ever. Not only does each CO have their same typical strengths and weaknesses from before, but you bring two into each battle (AWDS is all about the 'tag battles), and certain combinations will give you a bonus for their Tag CO power.

In addition, the more you use COs (in any mode), the more they level up, and the more "abilities" you can equip to them. So for a predeployed map you might wanna give them all offensive and defensive boosting abilities, while on a normal map you might want to equip the ones that give you money for damage dealt, etc.

This game features a lot more pre-battle prep, and if you lose a mission there's usually at least a little bit of preperatory tweaking you can do next time.

Almoka, there's no CO-free mode.

One shiny new copy of AW is sitting in my pocket right now. No DS (I'm at work). At the EB I went to the games had just come in, the rep said that he had 5 copies that were available for people who didn't pre-order. Two guys in front of me bought one copy, the next guy bought one and Nintendogs, then I got my copy and the person after me was buying one. Wow, and this was just an hour ago.

I found it today at Gamestop and they only had 3 copies left after pre-orders. Next to those 3 copies was a huge pile of nintendogs...

Hopefully AWDS mops the floor with that game.

One of my coworkers just pointed out that if you have AW2 in the GBA slot when you turn on the game it unlocks wallpapers ;)

Need to try AW1 when I get home!

Unlocked a wallpaper and 2(?) maps for me.

I think it will probably be the opposite. There are a lot of people who don't know how great this series is.

I picked up AWDS today at lunch and played the first couple of missions. I hate Jake's quotes already. They arent even cheesy in a good way (like Andy's were)....And stylus control didnt seem that great. The old d-pad + face buttons will work for me.

Other than that, I am looking forward to playing more of this after work.

edit: and yeah, its a damn shame Nintendogs will overshadow AWDS.

Jugger's awesome quotes make up for Jake's cringe-worthy ones. He said "blue screen of death!" once when activating his CO power.

...ok, so it doesn't seem that funny when I just typed it out, but it was funny seeing it in the game at the time. Very bewildering. Javier also has some awesome innuendo-filled quotes about sausage exploding like a cannon (no joke).

I need to play this game more, but Nintendogs is sucking away my time...I just played the first mission and I'm all giddy for playing AW again.

One question:

Does the weather change much in the Campaign mode? One thing that bugged me in AW2's campaign is that the weather never changed (unless forced to change due to CO powers). IIRC, in AW1's campaign the weather would randomly change every so often in the campaign.

I just got the game a few hours ago, so I didnt get very far yet, but this game rocks. The touchscreen controls were meant for games like this. Also though there is not a huge graphical leap, there are some very nice little touches, this series is about gameplay anyway. The music is very nice too. So far I am impressed but not surprised do to the quality of other games in the series. Now to get back to playing! If you haven't already get out and buy this!

Just picked up the game before work! About to dive in...But I have Ouendad, Nintendogs, and Advance Wars just to play on DS...And maybe Jump Super Stars if I can figure out how to clear the friggin training stages.

And on top of that, I'm addicted to WoW and I've been playing a lot of CS: Source with my best friend at night
