You can add custom iChat video backdrops to make it look like you're in California, Iraq, whatever - kasper

Oh Snap!

All news reporters rejoice.

11:24 am Leopard to ship in coming Spring

Guess we'll get the 'top secret' big main features at MacWorld in January then. Nice enough what they showed today, but there has to be more to it than that.

So the preview is being distributed to devs there.. hopefully we can score a copy soon.

Oh, and there rumors Vista may be delayed until August.

Why is do you say that? There are still talks of more Vista delays.

Actually ... I don't really care anyway as long as I get Leopard Spring next year ... and a Pro Mac at the end of this month (need to save a few extra swiss francs first).

Actually, I do care, because I want to upgrade my PC at home, and I'm hoping Vista ships on time, but even Gates was saying as late as last week that it's only about 75-80% sure of shipping in January.

But, like you, I'll also want Leopard, and I'm pretty sure it'll ship on time. Spring seems like a good bet. I'm also willing to bet that the real "Top Secret" surprises in Leopard won't be shown until MacWorld in January.

Hmm, so do you think they're going to announce new laptop configurations in a few months?

Most likely the rumored September event ... together with new iPods and maybe a merom Mac mini?

Time Machine looks really good, a lot better than Windows restore and the core animation is trippy.

Did Apple announce a lot of consumer-level products in previous WWDC keynotes? 'cause it seems to me that this presentation would've been very exciting for a developer...

I'm ordering a MBP now.

QUICK: glossy or matte?

I've used both and the glossy is nicer, but the matte is anti-glare. I've read blogs that say anti-glare is overrated and the glossy is actually nicer outside because the text is more readable. QUICK IMPRESSIONS PLZ

So.. isnt a Xeon processor not as fast as a core2duo? WHat am I missing?

It's the Woodcrest next-generation Xeon, same family at the Core 2 Duo (Merom, Conroe, Woodcrest).

Isn't this a developer conference? not really the place you'd expect laptop/ipod info.

Apple are really going to hit a wall soon. Already in this thread people are hoping for new macbook pros - they only just released them!

By this time next year, Steve Jobs will announce a new Macbook at the start of the keynote, and bloggers will be demanding a new model before the end of it!

Whoa, Time Machine looks slick as hell. Spaces looks cool, kind of an evolution of Expose. The iChat update looks like it may get me to ditch Adium and use iChat. The iChat Theater thing looks great.

Leopard looks like a worthy update.

Go see one in person before making your decision.

Oh and they really need to soup up iphoto in the next revision- Im talking browsing pictures as shown in the core animation demo, and selecting a bunch of visual themes in which to browse photos.

Go glossy, the anti-glare is indeed overrated as is the glare on their glossy screens.

I have a glossy winbook (not Winbook, but you know) and a Powerbook now.

I need GAF to tell me what to do. :D

Just got done watching the Leopard previews on the Apple site, and it's far better to see these things in person than to read about them in a blog updated during the keynote address. There are some very very cool things in there. Time Machine looks great, and the new iChat looks amazing as well. It could become a very useful tool in a business environment. Sweet stuff.

WWDC generally doesn't show off much of anything new for consumers. The iPhone buzz that was going around last week built up a lot of hype for this event, but Apple stuck with it's traditional game plan. We are probably over due for an iPod only presentation, with updates rumored to be coming for the Shuffle (long overdue), the Nano (larger capacity), and the long rumored and awaited, Video iPod, which is now said to be coming by November, with WiFi and a touchscreen. (Zune who? What again?)

As for Glossy vs. Matte, I have a MacBook, and the screen looks great. Glare isn't bad at all, except for perhaps in direct sunlight, which pretty much all laptops have issues with.

The good part is the Time Machine thing, this feature makes Leopard able to recover old system status and it makes a backup for every action that we make and if we fail we can return to an older status with a controller that is like a video controller, is spectacular.

And in hardware, FB-DIMM with 25GB/seg, in a word: BEAST.

i don't want to buy a new MacBook Pro now and have some new one with the Core 2 Duo chips be announced in Oct or Sept...

I can't afford to wait. Need it this month.

Eh, it's not like it's a HUGE difference.

If you can wait to buy tech, wait. But always judge your happiness based on what you can or will use it for in that time because sure enough something cooler and slightly more updated is coming along. Outside of mega-large revisions, it just doesn't make sense to worry about it so much if the original item meets your needs.

Just got out of the keynote and I'm sitting at a local pub here, but if you have any questions, the keynote isn't covered by the developer's oath to secrecy so I can answer any Qs though I can't promise I won't be online long nor that I'll be faster than the Apple fan sites. Leopard put on quite a show!
