Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

Now that Im obssesed with Destiny after the Alpha Im researching everything, that Traveler is just fascinating, fascinating...

:O

Since we were all Alpha testers, has anyone put together a list of things we'd like to see in the final version? I've seen a bunch of suggestions that don't sound like they'd be terribly difficult to implement, like having the ghost's voice come out of the controllers speaker. I'm sure they already have a roadmap and would disregard most of the list (or some things we come up with are already in motion), but it couldn't hurt to have an official neogaf list of demands.

Wow those concept art on the last page is truly amazing work. Going by what I have seen in the alpha Bungie is not far off.

Guys I cant wait to play this game again!! Just a few more weeks though...

I also have not noticed any aim assist, except after you melee.

Yeah bosses need to drop loot for sure. And I'm talking guns.

guaranteed boss loot. (boss always drops something).
Either give players more time to collect the loot after a boss fight or have it auto placed in their inventory. As it is, it can be hard to find the loot that a boss dropped after it dies and before the timer ends. They aren't that visible.

I don't understand the ADS hate. Must be a Halo player thing. I'm perfectly happy with the ADS system and scope upgrades.

Edit: I guess there isn't a list yet. I can just keep editing this one.

  • Roaming patrols in free-roam mode
  • More damage feedback on larger enemies
  • Have enemies respawn more slowly in free-roam mode
  • Remove ADS or improve hip fire accuracy (possibly remove aim assist while hip firing)
  • less or no Autoaim
  • More varied beacon quests
  • More substantial loot
  • more public events
  • Chatoptions
  • guaranteed boss loot. (boss always drops something).
  • Ghost voice through controller speaker
  • Touchpad gestures for summoning the speeder

After all the time I spent with the Alpha, I never noticed any significant aim assist.

I noticed it a lot with my scout rifle. Reticule would bounce to and fro on certain groups of Fallen as they would pop in and out of cover or run around eachother.

Lol, dont remove ads Bungie. Just remove non ads accuracy reduction.

Ghost through controller speaker is an amazing idea though.

I like the ADS, but there is definitely some aim-assist going on (coming from KZ-SF it is much easier to hit your target in Destiny).

This wait is killing me though. I cannot wait to explore/explore/explore

Remove ADS or improve hip fire accuracy.

The reason why people don't like ADS is because it clashes with the chaotic nature of Bungie's combat here. With ADS you're forced to slow down, but at the same time the gameplay is very unpredictable and Bungie has given you fantastic mobility options in order for you to navigate your way through the combat. You can't really take full advantage of the combat or your maneuverability options (jumping while firing) if you have to aim down the scope of your rifle.

I really only notice it with the knife.

I would like to be able to turn my character around 360 degrees in creation mode. Would help me pick a hairstyle easier.

Wish Titans looked bigger.

Ghost voice through speaker.

More touchpad support (using sparrow and items etc)

Less Aim Assist.

More accurate sniper hipfire.

Add this to the list, though I'm sure that it will get fixed by then.

- When you are in explore mode and you invite someone you meet there to your fireteam, it should just move them into your fireteam instead of having to reload the map for them again.

?

YES! (Minus removing ADS. Gunplay is based around it in Destiny.)

And my additions on the bottom...
  • Roaming patrols in free-roam mode
  • More damage feedback on larger enemies
  • Have enemies respawn more slowly in free-roam mode
  • More varied beacon quests
  • More substantial loot
  • Chat settings to allow proximity chat with randoms etc.
  • Hidden collectables that allow gameplay tweaks (Think skulls in Halo)
  • Adding neutral/friendly NPCs that could be encountered in explore mode (would be cool to have them "roam" in an area so they're not always in the exact same location... by time of day possibly.) People/aliens to get side missions from... people to trade with or purchase items from etc. The world feels slightly empty with only enemies.
  • An expanded Tower... with more venders... more to see and do. Thrown in a weapon test range etc.
  • Some sort of map(s). Could be just a general "map" outline and allow the player to add the terrain feature markings etc. Small set of tools to put down things like mountains, rivers, caves, loot, enemy groups... Survey your own explored areas!
...

Ghost through controller speaker is an awful idea for those who use headphones like me, it would be ok if it is an added option though, so you can choose wether or not you want to hear ghost through the controller.

Big ass Loot indicator would be nice, it's so easy to miss on the ground.

Yeah it sure does, snowblind.

I'd like to have this one:

But I guess you need to have a guy holding a gun on the cover. :(

Totally agree, this should have been the final boxart. It's mysterious and minimalistic.

Also, I'm feeling lost and empty after the alpha, but good things come to those who wait!

Totally agree!
The Reef sounds so cool.
I love that they showed the Queen and her Fallen guards at the end of the recent E3 trailer... such a tease.

I would be fine with ADS if they didn't introduce accuracy penalties for everything else. If using ADS only gave you a little more zoom and reduced sensitivity (basically like Bioshock) I would be absolutely OK with its inclusion. But the accuracy penalties for not using ADS and/or jumping are horrible (the one for jumping is so big it's ridiculous) If Bungie removed them from the game it would benefit the gameplay a lot.

Anyway, my suggestions:

-Remove all accuracy penalties
-Add some of the classic Halo control schemes (especially Bumper Jumper)

I will probably have more after the beta, but those two are the most obvious right now.

ADS needs to stay. Guns have sites... If I am Shooting a rifle across a courtyard im going to use a site. Destiny plays well without ADS for close encounters. Like it should.

Wanting no ADS is bizzaro world.

I don't entirely agree with this. On a conceptual level, it wouldn't require much tinkering to remove it.

But what would it do to all the weapon customization? A lot of which are new optics?

I have no problem with hip firing as is... it's damn accurate. A gun like any of the hand cannons or scout rifles doesn't even "need" to be ADS'd. In quick combat well placed head shots will one hit low levels VERY quickly.

Everyone's different though! To each his/her own.

The more mobility options you have the more meaningful the decision whether to ADS or not IMO. It's just that it needs to be a decision to be interesting. In the alpha it was just automatically the only option to win a gunfight.

I think hip fire needs to be more accurate, in the alpha it wasn't viable at all in PVP. If you're close enough to use hip fire, you should have the shotgun out.

Maybe higher level perks even it out.

All I want to see, is a strike mission with Pikes. I want to speederbike a big tank or something to death on a huge plateau or something.

Yeah, I'd like something similar to how Diablo, or BL does it, with the light beam shooting up from the loot. Would help a bit, although I never really had issues with missing loot(or did I?!)
-I also agree, Proximity chat would be great in Explore, and Crucible. It should at least be in for the Tower. (as an option)
-I would also like to be able to reload while sprinting, although I've talked to a few people and they don't seem to mind, so that my just be me spoiled by BF series, IIRC you can reload while double jumping?
-Yes, Ghost and mission beacons should speak out of the controller, makes too much sense not to do that.
edit: Leave ADS alone! It has it's uses

This. As someone who uses firearms in the real world it's very "unnatural" feeling to hip fire in most instances. Seeing your target down range in your optic feels "right" for me personally. I can completely understand why some don't like it... video games are games. It's just odd when you're used to the real thing.

First one is concept art, second one isn't.

The second one is taken from a vidoc if I recall correctly.

EDIT: Beaten by urk. :/

Wow I can barely distinguish. I remember them saying that they wanted their graphics to match their concept art, pretty spot on.

You guys have played Halo, right? For long range Bungie could just design it so you scope in.

And as you said, it's a videogame, so it doesn't really matter if it's that way in the real world.

I just turned on my PS4 to play Destiny. Then I remembered.

Halo explained it away by making an excuse. Lol Spartan HUD. It makes no sense. If I'm a guardian shooting something from long range I'm using a site. Plus isn't the most coveted halo weapon the CE pistol? Zoom is the same as ADS.

I disagree. You have to use it to be accurate at medium and long range. There's really no choice there.

Right, hipfire isn't accurate enough vs. ads right now, but I don't think that's ads being bad. It's hipfire not being viable, and the ridiculous bloom when you jump forcing gun fights to be stay on the ground and ads to get more headshots as the only option.

I don't think this is a game striving for realism...we have moon wizards? IMO the game should be designed toward having interesting gunplay. I should be making choices in a firefight, like whether I ads and aim for the head, or try to hip-fire and outmaneuver. More active decisions in an encounter make it more engaging.

You don't HAVE to use ADS if you don't like it. No reason to remove it so people that like it can't use it.
I would agree with this if they didn't also introduce accuracy penalties when not using ADS, but unfortunately, they did. So yeah, you kind of have to use ADS, even if you don't like it.

So, as I said earlier, the perfect solution would be for them to remove the accuracy penalty for not using ADS (and also the one for jumping while we're at it) You like ADS? Sure, you can use it as much as you want! You don't like using ADS? Well, you don't have to, so feel free to ignore it! Everyone's happy!

OG Halo LAN MP guy here ;P

The problem is you have no peripheral vision with the full screen Halo-type zoom. That's not how most optics are in the "real world". You keep both eyes open when you use anything other than a range scope... this is what ADS mimics and why only Sniper class weapons block out the rest of the screen.

It's jarring to just see a tiny section of your zoomed in screen... like really low FOV FPS games.
