Official Destiny Alpha Withdrawal Thread

I'm not sure. Luke Smith has been publicly stated as the guy behind the raid. All the way through development it was talked about how proud of what he was doing and also how he was keeping it away from the rest of the development team. I think it possibly was always one raid, but its a raid on a very large scale.

By the way, depending on how post launch goes, and how taxing the support is on the team, I am thinking we will see another raid at some point in the 12 months after launch. At the very least I would expect one to come with the first Comet expansion if those things still exist.

Why?

From what we've played in the alpha, I feel like that's where the game is at. No real gore, no cursing / swearing, female characters actually wear armor instead of "armor", enemies aren't human but alien, futuristic laser weapons instead of super-realistic modern weapons, no slit throat animations for knife kills, etc.

I'm glad Bungie kept it T and didn't force an M rating by doing stupid 'mature' stuff like that. It has no place in Destiny.

What are you going on about? Destiny needs to be darker, grittier, and more grey.

Curse a lot too. Yeah.

Bungie could still totally pull a Firefly/Battlestar Galactica and skirt the rating by having cursing in another language or a made up (Alien) language. Cursing isn't terrible or cliche in and of itself. Have NPC's use it sparingly in an Alien language and it just adds a bit of flavor.

To be honest having everybody be proper is a bit eerie since irl you can't have a conversation without somebody throwing in a shit or a fuck. And if you can do so, you're still working.

Dont worry, We'll cuss enough into our mics that you'll get the unfiltered raw hardcore mature rating you're craving :)

Speaking of which, My "Gold" Headset is waiting for me at the post office. Gotta get off work and pick it up,

So press the touch pad and it will show you a marker in which direction you should go.

Then use your Ghost to navigate. It'll lead you to the objective, and the story mission and strike that were in the alpha were pretty linear anyways with little room to actually get lost. For the objectives for the random tasks while exploring, just use your Ghost.

I really don't see the issue.

I like to see the topography of where I am in my surroundings

Stupid Q- My wireless came in here (Europe), but the box looks like this -

There is no Gold written anywhere. Am I ok?

/OT

I had the same question.
But there never was a inferior US version right?
Kind of an odd addition to the name.

I have the US version and there isn't any gold on mine either. Just assumed they used gold as a quality word instead of an appearance adjective. Worked great for the alpha!

I think it may just be a region packaging thing. I've not seen a EU version with gold on it

Thank you for the confirmation. I've made some reserach and it is said so on the pages I've looked on.

Thank you and let the precice opening begin.

ed: Thanks to all! Yeah, it is like - Kirby level of weird.

I didn't mean to open up a map shaped can of worms! My comment was that it was surprising given the emphasis on exploration and the advanced technologies available within the game that a mapping ability wasn't included.

Personally I like the added incentive an unexplored map gives to get around and search all of the nooks and crannies.

New PS Access Destiny video:

If anyone can describe what's in it, I'd appreciate it, can't watch at work.
I watched this at lunch. There's nothing in there really if you're keeping up with the game - I'm not the most informed on the game but there wasn't anything in there that I didn't already know.

We haven't had official confirmation of how Blink will work yet, but one thing I'll say is after playing the Destiny Alpha I got a MASSIVE Shadowrun vide off of it, and it's probably why I enjoyed it so much, so I'm hoping... nay, praying, that Blink works in the same way.

I see the discussion here. As someone who had a chance to play around with Blink pre-alpha It reminded me most of the Shadowrun teleport but without the ability to go through walls of course. It was actually pretty fun I thought.

Not sure if this has been discussed, but I've been watching some pvp gameplay videos, and has anyone noticed the delay between taking a final shot and the subsequent death animation and/or kill notification? I'm not too worried about it but I hope they fix this, it just throws me off a little and it has me wondering about the netcode.

Warlocks are the chosen people, they probably can
Space magic. I hope Bungie allows for green skin I want to make space Shrek wizard.

I wouldn't worry too much about netcode. This is Bungie we're speaking of not From.

This thread has been hilarious to read over the last week.

Not having played the Alpha, being a member of the unwashed X1 Destiny fanclub, what purpose does leveling up have? It didn't look like it added skill points or health/shield from the videos I watched. Is it for level restricted gear/weapons? Skills seemed to level up as they were used from what I could tell.

Is it September yet ?
Yes. You can go out and buy Destiny right now.

Mainly this.

So any fan of Borderlands 2 here can confirm its a more fun and better a game and BL2?

I dislike most first person shooters. It's not a genre I appreciate much. Borderlands 1 and 2 were the exceptions. I fell in love with them.

This game feels so much better to me. The shooting feels better, the graphical style is more my taste, and I don't have to deal with hit-or-miss humor. I'm not saying I got zero laughs from Borderlands, but I'd rather have a serious narrative and Destiny's world design and lore (from what we've seen thus far) looks like it'll scratch an itch I didn't even know I had until playing the alpha.

Having 150 hours of Borderlands 2 on Steam (the same for Borderlands 1 on PS3), let me stop you right there: it's a complete different experience.

Destiny IS unique, but of course it's based on several genre, but still keeping his own identity (like i said on another thread, i NEVER played a game like this, yet i played a LOT of FPS).

Give a shot to the beta.

This is one of the part that really got my attention in BL games. The humor. And im even wondering if for me its not the major point that get me playing BL. Sure guns were very cool, loved the cell-shading graphic, missions and skills system, but seriously, i think what made me dig into BL2 was the humor. Caltrap is my hero ;) . And Tiny Tina is just too hilarious.

But as you point, you saying that shooting and graphic style are an improvement for you. And for me, it was not an issue for me in BL2. Im just wondering now if its a must buy for me.

I need seriously. If i can get a beta i will try it for sure to have a good opinion about it. I just like too much BL2.

Thanks for the input.

I enjoyed borderlands but more due to the customization and rpg elements. This game doesn't seem to have as in depth of rpg elements but we'll see how Co op fairs.

What makes you think that? I found the skill trees and loot system in Borderlands lackluster. Destiny has a central hub, as well as weapon and armor customization.

I've maxed most of the characters in both Borderlands games and played through all but two of the expansions. I really like Borderlands.

But boy, the combat in Borderlands is pretty terrible on its own, and it only looks more dire when you compare it to an actual shooter. Destiny's combat is very strong - there aren't as many procedurally generated elements to the weapons, so you end up with guns that feel right, since they were actually designed, and AI that feels a lot like Bungie's other efforts, which were world-class. Outside the bosses, as long as you're properly leveled, at no point does it feel like the bog-standard high-level Borderlands loop of holding down the trigger and waiting for a health bar to go down.

When they say Destiny is first and foremost an action game, it seems like they really mean it. The shooting element could easily be divorced from the character progression and still be an excellent experience, which is basically the polar opposite of Borderlands. The character-building is less granular (you're not getting +% accuracy by using 1 of 70 skill points - in fact it doesn't expose most of its stats numerically at all), but more fitting for a shooter. There's also significantly less loot than Borderlands, which ends up resulting in a higher ratio of significant upgrades:trash loot - I've always felt like the billion-guns procedural element was interesting but seriously flawed in Borderlands because you get so much garbage compared to actual, meaningful upgrades. Since the weapons you'll be using most are hand-crafted (going from some of their previous statements), it feels more like a great standalone shooter with RPG elements layered on top, not a pure hybrid where one is 100% dependent on the other (and in the case of Borderlands, neither half is particularly great).

And hey, say what you will about the wizard from the moon line, but the writing in Destiny isn't so desperate to be funny that it spews internet memes verbatim every third line, which always rubbed me the wrong way about Borderlands (2 specifically).

Destiny has armor options. Borderlands does not. Destiny has leveling up choices in the weapons.. Borderlands does not. Destiny has a tree that allows you to choose upgrades as you level up.. Borderlands does too. Both have loot/chests and a hub world.

I love Borderlands and Destiny feels like the next step in that shooter/looter formula.
