Official Fable II Thread

At this stage you should probably consider taking your disc back and getting a replacement. You're the only person I've seen online (other than pirates) who has the game and is complaining about major bugs. Either your 360 is dying, or something is wrong with your disc.

Have asked a couple of reviewers for their experience with the game and they've said they've seen nothing like what you're experiencing, even after a few playthroughs.

Agreed

Seriously. 40 hours here, no bugs. And I'm on review code, too, which isn't even finalized. Occasional slowdown, sure - but no bugs.

Aye, sounds like what most people have experienced so far.

in early interviews and gameplay demonstrations Molyneaux mentioned it being henchment type co-op....so i am not surprised.

Well that takes my excitement down a notch. Especially since its only 2 player co-op, whats the point of not letting your actual hero play with others?

Yeah, Pyschotext, I've got some friends that are getting it on Tuesday, so I am definitely interested in watching them play to see if this stuff occurs.

I really don't think that it is my copy, or my 360, since it's not screen-tearing or framerate drops... it's actual gameplay stuff.

Bugs don't really pop up because of bad discs or failing 360s (besides graphical gitches with failing 360s) unless they're directly related to game being unable to load some resource from disc, and usually by that point the game throws up a dirty disc error.

Things like chairs sticking to arms, etc. those are bugs that probably wouldn't happen just because some resource (a file, a texture, a sound, a mesh) etc. failed to be read from disc in time.

Yeah I havent experienced anything at all like that. The one bug I had was when I married a chick, bought a house and moved her in and had a family. Then I bought a bigger house and made it the marital house but the old house stayed and so now I had 2 families with the same wife. She ended up divorcing me because I stopped the budget at one of the houses and is nowhere to be found but I still have her as a spouse at the other house. Weird :lol

Combinations of things can cause some very, very strange issues.

This is absolutely true. It's possible that they're related to failure to load, or slow loading times for resources. But from my experience as a programmer, with some game programming experience to boot, I'd say they sound much more like functional bugs than technical resource loading bugs.

It's similar to when Halo 2 was leaked, and people were thinking that pop-in and low resolution textures were because the pirated version was corrupted. I was absolutely certain this was not the case. It just doesn't fit with how things really work in a game.

I wish I had a decent capture card so I could make a video like this (with the same music, :lol ). I'd definitely have enough material.

Just to reiterate, I really do like this game, and I've already spent a ton of time with it (basically played through the main quest twice), and I plan on spending even more time with it. I think that the orb/proximity voice duo is one of the most ingenious things ever to be implemented into a single player game. Like saved films from Halo 3, that is the sort of thing that should become standard for SP games like this.

This, exactly this. Halo 2 was a train wreck in terms of being polished, and I played that game religiously, so I'd like to think that I can tell the difference between 360/disc issues and an unpolished game. But then again, no one else (yet) is reporting the issues I am, so...

Except what's strange here is that only 1 or 2 people have reported major problems. I don't think I saw a single thing other than a little slowdown mentioned in any review either.

TBH, the only time I have experienced slowdown is when I cast the highest-level Shock spell when there's 15+ enemies on screen. I definitely wouldn't even classify framerate dropping as in the same category as the stuff that I've seen. Slowdown is performance-related.

Pyscho, if you don't have the game yet, then that is good, because you know what to look for; all of the stuff that I've been talking about. I'd really like to hear about your experience with it once you've put 15 or so hours in.

As I stated earlier, I'm guessing the co-op patch will include bug fixes. It doesn't make sense for it *not* to include bug fixes, because while a few programmers were working on co-op, it makes sense for those who weren't working on co-op to look at remaining bugs.

Hopefully.

Man, I am really disappointed, too, with the fact that it appears as though your character won't really be your character when you're in someone else's world. With all the talk that PM gave on making each character look unique, it'd be a real shame if no one else could see that.

Well they'd still see your character if they came into your world right?

The disparity between European and US reviews are pretty hilarious.

And WTF I'm sorry an 8.5 for Sound IGN Really?...Really? This game has one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. I don't mind any of the other scores for the individual parts of the game but sound has always been one of Fable's strongest components.

This quote also jumped out at me as strange..

"The expressions system is too goofy for the more serious tone of Fable II".

Serious? Fable? What?

Tomorrow night can't come soon enough... luckily for me, I'm taking Thursday and Friday off for a wedding which means: LATE NIGHT FABLE SESSION ZOMG. I haven't stayed up late playing video games in forever... looking forward to some major nostalgia + fun.

No doubt about it -- the game is rough. I had a game-breaking bug hit me about 5 to 6 hours in, but thankfully, I hadn't saved for a while, so I just reloaded.

Still, it's fun and addicting.

This has hit me hard the past few days... once you start playing, you don't want to stop. I've been staying up way too late.

Not quite the same. Part of the charm in loot-gathering games like this one with very customizable characters is playing co-op with a friend and comparing and contrasting various items and equipment you've picked up and worn, both visually just by looking at the characters and seeing how they fight in combat, and by the usual trading.

Really really hoping the co-op patch changes things up. No one wants to play as a henchman/woman. Especially since you usually become semi-attached to your character in a game like this.

I still think it's really strange if the game isn't like that, since I distinctly remember watching videos where both of the customized main characters were in the game playing co-op together, no henchman with only 6 avatars or whatever bullshit.

Something must have gone terribly wrong with co-op down the stretch, also taking into account the delay on it.

I've seen the character with a chair stuck to their hand, but I didn't think it was a bug. Since the character was near the furniture shop, I thought it was the furniture seller/maker carrying around their work. :lol I didn't bother to check the name of the person holding the chair to see if that was the case.

I've also seen occasional slowdown, which is very rare and has yet to affect gameplay. I've experienced the poor collision thing when you dive into a lake, but I was able to get myself out after some wiggling around. I've also seen the neckless dog (missing collar). I consider all of these polish bugs, which I'm sure Peter Molyneux would love to have fixed (and still might with the zero day patch), but none of them affect gameplay.

One bug that I do consider affecting gameplay is during the jobs where you have to time your button press when the circle goes into the proper area, if you are popular, NPC's will hang around you and sometimes stand in your field of view, which makes it hard to do your job. They may go translucent, but it's still a walking distraction that goes literally right over the gameplay area. Not a gamebreaker, but it is annoying.

I'd say the game has bugs, just like any other game, but most of them do not affect gameplay. If there's people who choose to avoid the game because of the bugs, they're missing out on a great experience for a silly reason, but hey if you want to skip out on game of the year because of a few minor issues, it's your loss. It's not like Castle Crashers where the game was unplayable online.

Can't wait. The sims type stuff really hooks me in, too :lol

Apparently it's too late to switch pre-orders from SD to LE... oh well, I guess I'll buy the DLC level later (hopefully it's cheaper w/o the lame halo costume) : /

15-20 hours in, and I haven't encountered any game-breaking bugs. There's an occasional graphical glitch---invisible faces, I got stuck in the geometry once, etc. I have noticed some tearing, and the pathfinding can be problematic at times (this is the most frustrating to me, my dog or NPC follower blocking my way, or the dog trying, unsuccessfully, to get to a dig spot on the other side of a fence). Other than these minor annoyances (the glitches themselves probably number less than 10), I've really been enjoying the game.

I don't want the spoilers. What makes the LE so special?

Instead of killing the prophet at the beginning of the game, you're given the option to follow him into a new area where there's another hour of gameplay involving a demon who is harassing a small village.

I made that up entirely. I have no idea. There is no prophet.

Not funny.

Anyone else think the logical next step for the Fable franchise is online focused (MMO?) ? The series already seems to be heading in that direction with Fable 2 and the Fable universe could be the perfect franchise to spring forward Microsoft's attempts to bring MMOs to consoles.

dlc content:
-a master chief-looking costume (err, cool if you like halo...)
-an extra dungeon w/ a crazy sword at the end (which i'm interested in)

+different plastic case
+dvd with interviews or something

I would be game, they have been needing to do something ever since the collapse of the forgotten "True Fantasy Live Online" which I was quite hyped for.

I spent a good hour last night trying unsuccessfully to find a gargoyle that I assume is inside a building I can't get in yet. I can't get that Irish brogue out of my fucking head now. He was taunting me in my dreams last night.

Anyone has (and may post pics) of the Limited Edition Strategy Guide?
I know there are 4 different covers and an artbook included (along with a poster)..any pics?? And Gamestop.com says that stores aroudn here already have'em..though if I wait till tomorrow I may get 20% off...

Are there any Lionhead members that post here?

Would be a day one purchase for me. I think peter can do it and may have already started working on it.

I stayed off the hype train for this...

until today! :D Read the Eurogamer review, called GameStop, they are doing a midnight launch in my town, drove over there on my lunch hour, paid for the game in full!

Yeah! I'm all pumped up for tonight!

Anyone who has this game, can you guys tell me if the co-op is girlfriend friendly?

Also the woman is considering starting her own profile, and playing the game single player - I'm assuming for offline co-op the henchman can be on the same hard drive, and doesn't have to be on a memory card, right?

(Viva Pinata Answering Question) Not sure if it's in the demo as I only bought the full copy but I am one thousand percent sure you can give full access to the second or third player in co-op because I did it myself. You select the extra player and set the amount of control they get.

Now back to Fable!

ONLINE CO-OP YOU BRING IN YOUR OWN CHARACTER. Christ.. so much mis-information.

Molyneux talks about it in this new interview:http://www.gametrailers.com/player/41556.html

Also in numerous demonstrations they have two real characters from seperate campaigns playing together

He never says you bring your own character in that interview.

I took my sweet ass time with Fable 1 and still only got 25 hours out of it. I'm seriously worried that I hear all this talk about the the play times being 10-15 hours. Grinding gold for houses doesn't sound like fun side activities for me.

Is there a LOT of side quests?
