Official Fable II Thread

Lol. Yeah, I suppose I will just start a new character and transfer over the million I have sitting in the pub games. Sucks, though, because I've put a lot of time and energy into this char over the past three days. And like I said, I wonder how many more people this is going to happen to.

Has anyone ordered from Amazon? My copy still hasn't shipped. Seems like they will have to ship it Monday AM for overnight since I opted for the "day 1" shipping thing they are doing for Fable II (and a few other games)

You'd lose all your pub games stuff if you started a new character though?
I didn't merge the characters, yet.

Some guy just randomly gave me, like, six million gold.

what am i supposed to do with it

can't believe there is still so few reviews of it, the more I read about it the cooler it sounds (last few posts about bugs excluded...).

I'm losing total interest in WAR which puts me in a vulnerable window until Fallout 3 comes out :D

God damnit, I'm going to cancel all my pre orders of everything and just wait for reviews/demos. I was sure I'd get the standard edition of Fable II (and just pay for the DLC dungeon when it inevitably drops on XBLM) instead of Fallout 3 but all these bug issues are really turning me off... Balls.

That sucks completely. These types of glitches sorta turn me off, but hopefully they can fix it. I might consider holding off buying Fable 2 for a short while. I have hardly played my other games that I've bought :lol

Buy a big house, then lots and lots of strippers. Or give it to me.

Edit: Nevermind, you CAN have more than one save, I think. Although I didn't save my new game, when I hit continue on the main menu, it is showing some cards, and each of them is a different save.

Also, it needs to be said that this game is really, really good, but it is plagued by numerous glitches. People floating, your dog flying, character models stuttering (like moving back and forth rapidly), the inability to move to places you should be able to due to bad geometry. If Lionhead didn't pull off all of the awesome stuff that they did, then this would almost be on the Two Worlds level of bugs. Like, for example, one time I saw a woman walking through the Town Square with a chair attached to her hand. Like, everything she did with her arm, the chair moved around in the air, like it was tied to her hand. This sort of stuff happens a lot.

I'm pretty sure you could take one of the major side stories (like one of the guilds) from Oblivion, release that as a standalone game and it would still feel larger than Fable 2. There's no large open landscapes. If you choose not to warp everywhere you end up walking though the same narrow roadways dozens of times, killing the same 40 bad guys over and over again. Which means you warp everywhere or die of a mixture of boredom and carpal tunnel. When comparing to Oblivion nothing is as big, as grandiose, or as complex. There's no armor to speak of. Only a handful of weapons (unless there are lots more nearer the end of the game) None of the cool stuff like creating your own potions, spells, or enchantments. Leveling up is a simplified version of what it should be, the menu system is one of the worst I've seen in gaming (seriously, whoever designed it has no right to be in the video game business) The map system is a joke (no zooming? are you kidding me?) and my biggest complaint is that when you "die" you just fall over, lose some xp, and get back up with a full health meter. It really takes away any sense of challenge and danger that should be there. Also I usually hate people that whine about how you can't jump in games like this, but there are times when it's beyond painful to not be able to hop up onto some 6 inch rock that's standing in your way.

Damn...

That's good to know. But you still can't have multiple saves in the same world.

SPOILERS
The rescuing of Garth in the Spire sequence was a pretty neat concept. But the game hasn't really shown that time has passed well. I went to the archaeologist and she was all: "Oh hi, I have another quest for you" all casual like. Stuff like that doesn't really bother me, but it was funny nonetheless. :lol

I find that extremely hard to believe. I doubt it would be getting the scores it is if that was the case.

I do want a large open world, but I want one with things in it. Obilivion was gigantic, but there was extremely large areas that had nothing (in terms of content). If I wanted to explore forests and experience nature, I would go outside. I would much rather have some of the size cut down, for more content added in the open areas that are teaming with life.

One thing worth noting... apparently the pirate version that's floating about is slightly broken. You're going to see a lot of people saying that there's major issues with the game because of this (aside from anything that's present in the retail version).

I have a release-day order from Amazon as well. It has not shipped yet either. I am sure they just will overnight it on Monday.

Ah a page back from another forum...gotcha. I still stand by my comment though. Just watching the videos on the game could have told you half the stuff in those "impressions".

I've experienced hardly any graphical glitches myself.

The game is flawed here and there, yes, but it FUN. The co-op is great and the world created is very nice. The Oblivion sidequest sized world is BULLSHIT, the story, at the very least, continually tries different ideas and twists.

The game isn't perfect, but it's more than what some impressions have had you to believe. It's worth you time of day and worth your purchase, put it that way.

Which he pulled from another site and sounds nothing like what has been described here.

Hehe, pirates get what they deserve. Screw em all.

Good to hear. So the co-op patch is out now? Or is that just local you're referring to?

Man, now I'm thinking I should probably wait for the PC version.
SERIOUSLY do not make a judment like this based on one persons glitches

because so far he seems to be the only one having problems... he could just have a screwed up copy, and that happens... has anyone else had any problems like his?

The game did patch itself when I first booted it up, but it appeared to be for something else, not online co-op. I was referring to local.

The game isn't glitch free, but the level of glitches is normal relative to any game of it's scale. It's a non-issue. To answer your question, no I haven't had any sort of problems even close to the ones he is having.

He could be playing a pirated copy. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Definitely not playing a pirated copy. I don't even own a modded Xbox. There are plenty of people here on GAF that can vouch for me.

So I've put in about 8 straight hours today, and I have to say I'm really loving it. The small details are the ones that really make me smile: random NPCs in far away areas referencing quests that I've completed, the shopkeeper of a store that I own crying out to the world that people should come shop at the "store owned by one of Albion's famous adenturers" (I even had one guy working a shop I didn't even own say to me something to the effect of "you deserve a big discount because you're you; just don't tell anybody else")

I find the Fable twist on the GTA hidden packages-type sidequest hilarious (stone gargoyles that insult you in an irish accent when you walk by)

Combat is deeply satisfying, especially the gunplay.

I ended up getting married to a quest NPC, moving her to Oakfield (she was a Bowerstone NPC), proposing, then tapping that ass. Now she lives in Oakfield and when I come home to satisfy her seemingly insatiable desire for sex (seriously, the only thing she ever gets needy for is "wants sex" under the marriage status page) I see her wandering around town or hanging out at the Sandgoose. It's awesome.

More and more as I play, I an't help but notice the large similarity in game structure between Fable 2 and one of my favorite games of all time: Steambot Chronicles. Both games are sort of aiming to make the player experience the same thing: character evolution in the context of a story and adventure. Both games have a large pseudo open world with tons of extra stuff to do. Both games place a large emphasis on NPC roles. Both games have a mute main character who manages to be lovable through their actions. And I love them both for the same reason: they let me have access to their rich content by allowing me to shape the destiny of a character.

I opted for the "release day" shipping and it has not shipped yet. Although I live near one of the shipping facilities I thought it might be coming from there.

When they announced that online co-op was going to be implemented with a patch - extending their development time by a few weeks while the game was in manufacture - I made a post wondering if that meant the game was going to be buggy. If they aren't feature-complete by the time they go gold, I don't think they had a good QA cycle either.

Really too bad. Two anticipated action games in a row plagued by save bugs and other problems (Fable II and Castle Crashers).

Well... I'm poor, PC version will inevitably have more content (ala Lost Chapters), etc. It's not like there's a huge shortage of games from now until the end of the year. ): Indeed, there are far, far too many.

But. It was just an offhand comment. I really want to play the game NOW. No chance of me waiting at this point.

Is there anyone here that knows of my plight and wouldn't mind taking a few minutes to help me transfer some items over to my new char?

Anyone? I still haven't found someone... it'll just take five minutes.

Cocopjojo said:

I would but I'm away from my Xbox atm.

I've encountered some type of glitch that will not let me sleep now nor finish one of the side quests. Anyone that has the game seen this one yet? Arrrggh!

Thanks, Sanjuro.

Ugh, this was a mess, and I've got a long way to go to get back to where I was, but at least my XP and spells are back where they were, so I should be able to breeze through the dozens of quests that I had completed.

Cocopjojo said:
Ugh... right after I posted that note about the constant glitching, I hit the big one. I'm stuck with a "Press A to pay the bard ten gold in exchange for a song." So I walk slowly everywhere, and I can't pause the game to quit out because it just says "Scene paused," and I can't get my menu. Luckily, due to that "dirty disc" message that I got yesterday, I've been saving every few minutes, so I won't lose much playtime. I have to reset, I guess, because I'm not even cloes to the Bard anymore, and that dialogue won't go away. : (

I have encountered nomerous bugs as well. The worst getting myself stuck and having to replay 20 minutes of an area.

I think it's a game you should play really slowly, spending a lot of time with your character and just exploring the cities and all the people there. Just running through the main quests can make it boring.

Ordered from Amazon and release date delivery as well. No shipping notification. However when selecting it, I rememer they said that shipping information might not be updated.

Yeah, I have played it that way, which makes it so much worse when you have to restart. Lol.

I was able to score a copy myself form a mom & pop game store. I had to take a long drive, but wanted to get it a bit early being that I work Mon, Tues & Wednesday and wanted to get some playtime. I just got home and just ate some food...once I get some playtime in, I will post some impressions.

Sure, you on now?
Nah, I found a few folks to help me transfer some of it. Unfortunately, you have to do it one item at a time (even when xfering multiples of the same item), and it saves after each xfer, so it takes forever. But anyway, yeah, I found some folks. Thanks, though, man.

Sooo, is there any way to take back an engagement ring/proposal?

See, I was trying to get this monk to give me a gift the game said he had. But in the process I accidentally offered him a ring. Turns out he's bisexual. Anyway, I have no intention of marrying the guy, and I'm a little tired of having him follow me around with a ring over his head.

...I'm going to have to kill him, aren't I?

Anyway to sell a marital house?

I believe you can designate another pice of property as your marital house (the instruction booklet mentions moving your family if you want), so I would assume the original marital house reverts to normal.

I did buy another house and set it as the marital home but the old one is still a marital home as well. Must be a bug.

:lol :lol :lol
If it's like the first game, you can't take it back..and killing them is not going to give you an option to take it..again, in the first game..
Maybe they changed this in the sequel..
As long as you don't buy a marital home you'll be fine, though then..it's only a matter of saying 'Yes'.. :p ..but is not bad, you can marry a woman in some other town and act straight.. :p

It is possible to get a divorce, but then they get half your gold. Your best option looks to be pushing him off a cliff.
