Official Fable II Thread

I strongly disagree. The game is perfectly smooth for me (retail version), it's something that I immediatly noticed because I was worried about that.

I have some slowdown and screen tearing. My roommate noticed it almost immediately. It happened right from the beginning of the game.

You are correct sir...there is some screen tearing. It is most envident in the starting town as a child and also in the first part of adulthood. I notice it mostly when there is a large amount of people/items in close proximety.

For the most part, the game has been very smooth for me. I do get a little slug here and there, but the conditions have to be where there are alot of things happening. Screen tearing has been the same, only occasional, nothing major.

Got my review copy on Friday, and have been playing the hell out of it since then...and it feels like I've merely scratched the surface. Music and graphics are superb--definitely better than expected--but it's the gameplay that really hooks you. It's just tons of fun.

I haven't encountered the glitch yet, nor any issues with the orbs. The game requires you to download a patch before it'll let you play...is it possible that everyone who's run into 'em first turned off Xbox Live (or just disconnected the network cable)?

Haven't run into other players at all yet; it's definitely going to be disorienting when the deluge begins on Tuesday.

I've been waiting for years for an RPG I can get complete absorbed by and lose myself in for hours on end...and it's starting to look as if Fable II is that game.

Did anyone else get a call from Gamestop tonight? I wasnt home but I saw that they called me earlier...im assuming its about my Fable 2 preorder.

Yeah I did. It's an auto-mated voice message saying Fable II will be available Tuesday morning.

Ashley told me I could pick up my copy at midnight.:lol

Not sure if this was posted, but there is a chest in the first cave that you cannot open, it says go to Fable2.com for info...I just did it and it told me that there is something waiting for me in the game when I log in next time.

I think I vaguely remember reading something here, but cannot remember...if old, well oh well you get to hear it again.

:lol :lol I got the exact same thing. Is there any point at all in getting there two hours early like they said? If not I'm probably not going to get there until like 11:45.

I just got the call...again. It said to show up at 10 pm...fuck that. I'll show up 12:15-12:30 ish. I plan on paying off my copy tomorrow morning.

I highly doubt there will be a big crowd tomorrow night.

Just got the call as well. Showing up at 11:45 too, which is the same time I showed up for GTA IV.

I'd be careful about getting there too much after 12. For the GTA IV launch my gamespot closed at around 12:15 or 12:20.

Am I supposed to do something here before I get the game on Tuesday? I generally don't poke around sites like that.

You can get some in-game items from the puppet show and gold from the chicken kicking game.

You can get some nice items and a couple of good laughs out of it. The items aren't game changers and the site is really well done so I'd say you should go for it.

The game tells a little story, but it is not the story from Fable 2, so there's no spoilers.

I see people keep asking to wait for coop patch to fix some things, guys, the patch is already out. I got the game on Saturday and had to update, I think the very first guy that got it early in this thread mentioned "there's an update already", too. Anyway, I'm loving the game and finding it extremely fun. I didn't think the world was going to be as big as it is, I've gotten lost a few times already. Turn off the trail if you want to explore it on your own, I imagine that the game is much easier with it on since it always tells you where to go. I can see how it makes the game last only 10-15(?) hours, I just got to Oakfield and my total play time is 7 hours(Oakfield is gorgeous btw).

That is not the co-op patch, bro. Or if it is, then we've got a real problem, because it hasn't given anyone the ability to play co-op.

I see, I stand corrected then. So all you can do is see the orbs(players), but not play with them?

There are things you can do with them - proximity chat, gifting of items, viewing of stats.

I'm willing to test it if anybody else wants to.
There is no test it. The option just isn't there. It isn't there when you select someone with the L-trigger, and the "Invite to game" option is greyed out when you're viewing someone's profile while in-game.

Another review is in, 9.5 from Gameplayer. Heh, I hardly ever agree with these guys either.

Conclusion;

At its very deepest level, Fable II can easily enthral with the level of interaction you have with the world of Albion; whether it’s training your faithful dog, watching the metamorphosis of your avatar, getting a job, getting hitched and having a family, or (if monogamy is too cruel a rule) seeing how many villagers you can bang and infect with VD. Choose to lose yourself in these side-quests and diversions and you’ll be fast approaching the ‘50 hours and beyond’ level of longevity only witnessed in RPGs like Oblivion. Couple that with a very capable online ‘drop-in drop-out’ co-operative mode, and you’ll be playing Fable II for a long time to come.

Fable II is an amazing game that is worthy of a giddy school girl shout of “Excellent! Outstanding!”. It isn’t a perfect experience, by any means though, and we did get a bit annoyed with the constant load times between areas – which, you could argue, is present in most console RPGs of this size and scope. Also we experienced the odd bit of graphical weirdeness, with some NPCs being faded into existence right in front of us. Lastly, the bread crumb trail is a mixed bag, it has the potential to suck out some of the challenge of questing for the hardcore RPGers out there, but you can always just turn it off.

Other than that, Fable II ticks all the boxes: the combat handles well, it’s visually stunning, the voice acting and musical score are brilliant, and the epic storyline doesn’t end before it begins (like the first game did). But the most appealing thing about it is that it delivers everything that Molyneux has promised, plus it is oozing with wit and charm - something sorely lacking from many games nowadays. At the end of the day, Fable II is a triumph and a must buy, even in the face of the impending release of Fallout 3.

An amazing Action RPG with charm, depth, and challenge. A must buy 9.5

They pulled it as they now state that it was embargoed, but will be up after it again unchanged they say.

Right, I realized that after I read this
Split screen is in. Online is not.

but I was too lazy to edit my post. So is it possible to deny gifts? I have online set to off right now because I kept hearing people talking and it annoyed me.

Nah, it's kind of odd, but there's no way to deny a gift. If you have orbs set to ON, then anyone that can see you can gift you something.

A few days ago, Sanjuro gifted me (I never even saw him) a book called "Pretty on the Inside..." :lol

Thanks.

Also, I don't understand why, but my character have some stranges marks all over his body, like devil marks in Fable 1... but my character is more "good" than "bad" in the journal... any ideas ?

Could be one of three things:

1. You can be good but still be corrupt (playing with self-interest as in jacking up rent prices on your property, etc.). These look like dark veins all over.

2. Could be magic runes on your skin. You get these from leveling up Will a lot.

3. Could be scars, which you get permanently on your body when you die.

Played probably another 6 hours today. Loving it so much. The story has really started to pick up now. I also got The Swinger achievement with two girls in Bowerstone who were most definitely not my wife, and in a bed of a house I most definitely did not live in. After getting it on, I came down the stairs and the owner just walked through the door, and I split quick as she said "you do know this house isn't yours?"

Left the girls to explain the mess.

Crap, you can gift people gold and they cannot deny it or is that merely in reference to items? Err if not, that needs to change.

Oh yea, has anyone ran into the pirate ship straight out of the Goonies yet? :D

Do you know how the rest of the alignments will effect your appearance? Say if you're evil but benevolent to your people?

Hammer's voice actor is really good, IMO. Or maybe it's just because I'm American and her English accent is really pronounced, so it sounds cool. Either way, I enjoy listening to her talk. Her dialogue is well-written, too.

Being extremely evil gets you flies around the head while being extremely good gets you the halo, just like in the first game. Also, leveling up Strength more gets you buffer and spending more experience in Skill makes you taller.

Thanks. I'll tinker with it tomorrow night as a warm-up.

how are ppl reviewing the game without having the ability to play online co-op ...since it is a pretty important feature?

It's an important feature that didn't launch with the game. The co-op patch isn't out yet, and there's not a 100% guarantee it'll be available for the 21st. There are people who don't have their Xbox hooked up to the Internet and it's possible that the patch fixes some bugs as well as adding co-op - so I personally think reviewers should review the *current* game and state they will re-review once the patch is out and let everyone know the game they played didn't include the patch.

Some sites, like 1up, are waiting for the patch before releasing their review.

Uh people who aren't hooked up to the internet can't play online co-op anyway? It's really a non-issue.

You review a game for what it ships with, not what it's been promised to have a patch for. IMO.

You missed my point. If they review after the patch, and the patch fixes bugs as well as adds online co-op, then people without their Xbox hooked up to the Internet will be reading a review about a game they don't have. One with less bugs.
