You missed my point. If they review after the patch, and the patch fixes bugs as well as adds online co-op, then people without their Xbox hooked up to the Internet will be reading a review about a game they don't have. One with less bugs.
The people who are reviewing the game are already playing the current version now. So they would be experiencing all the current bugs as is. Also, you didnt make yourself clear, who said they were fixing bugs? All that was promised was online co-op.
Almost had this today, was in a case at Walmart but when the lady rang it up it came up as error so she then (after 30 fucking minutes) discovered it was not out yet. Im going to try tomorrow with a different shift, any ideas on how to get it without the error? :lol

I just exited a Hobbe cave into a forest and earned like 3500 renown for completing a quest... when I got outside, there were like 10 people waiting, cheering for me. But apparently we were in the middle of a Hobbe spawn because while the people were cheering a dozen Hobbes came out of nowhere and started slaughtering them... :lol

But then all the people who have their xbox's hooked up to the internet won't be playing the reviewed game either! Surely that's not fair either? You'd have the efforts of a team continuing to work on their title post-release unrewarded just because a few plebs are too silly to work out how to connect their xbox to the internet? Your glass is half-empty good sir.
I think it would be silly to review a title every time it's updated, reviews should base their scores on the assumed implementation of patches by the developers. I'd be stricter, it's just I think we need to give a little leeway given I'd rather have a patch out for a title a week after it's release rather than writing the month delay it would take to run off print copies with the new code. You've also got to take in consideration the large scope of game today and acknowledge that it's likely bugs will slip past testing.

Yeah - that's the way it should be, in my opinion. Someone asked how sites can be reviewing the game before getting a chance to play online co-op, and it's my opinion that they *should* be reviewing the game as-is, not based on some day one patch. So what's your point here? Because it sounds like you're agreeing with me.
Also, you didnt make yourself clear, who said they were fixing bugs? All that was promised was online co-op.
It's common sense really. I could be wrong - they might release a patch that just has co-op and they haven't fixed any bugs, but I doubt it. The way that certification and manufacturing works is that Lionhead had to have the game ready and in Microsoft's hands somewhere between 6 and 10 weeks ago in order to get the game certified and then off to to be manufactured.
Games almost always ship with non critical bugs. My guess is that Lionhead has bug tracking software that is filled with bug reports, with each bug having priority based on its severity. They fix the big bugs first before getting to the lower priority bugs, and games can pass certification with bugs as long as they are not blockers (crash the game, stop the player from progressing, etc.).
Since then some of the team has continued to work on co-op so they could get a patch ready to be certified before the 21st, but only some of the programmers are involved with co-op - mostly guys familiar with networking code and such. Do you think the rest of the programmers who aren't involved with co-op just sat around twiddling their thumbs? No, common sense says they kept going fixing other known bugs so the fixes could be included in the patch.
It's an important feature that didn't launch with the game. The co-op patch isn't out yet, and there's not a 100% guarantee it'll be available for the 21st. There are people who don't have their Xbox hooked up to the Internet and it's possible that the patch fixes some bugs as well as adding co-op - so I personally think reviewers should review the *current* game and state they will re-review once the patch is out and let everyone know the game they played didn't include the patch.
Some sites, like 1up, are waiting for the patch before releasing their review.
Naw it's done and set for Tuesday and I guess we just wait for the patch to hit the servers sometime Tuesday. This was the last blog post at Lionhead by Sam earlier tonight;
Terrific news! Lionhead and Microsoft Game Studios confirmed today that the online co-op Fable II multiplayer feature update is confirmed for a first day free download on Xbox LIVE, worldwide (21st October). We are pleased to provide Fable II fans around the world with the chance to hop in and out of their friends Fable II worlds, to meet their heroes, dogs, spouses and experience Albion, together online. Fable II will be available at retailers throughout North America on October 21 and across Europe on October 24.
You would never have noticed, we could just have told you we'd be "switching on the servers" and gotten away with it. I think...
Oh, for what its worth, not even we at Lionhead have received our own personal retail copies... granted, we could always play it on the devkits... but there is nothing better than sitting on your own couch in your own living room and in your own pants (hopefully), playing the game on your own TV and handing the second controller to your own (well, hopefully) partner for coop.
Well done to the team in the US and over here in Guildford!

Yes, this is entirely true. The fact is that I'm just being the Devil's Advocate here. Someone asked why sites could have reviews without having a chance to play online co-op, which is a major feature, and I responded
I'm guessing that people who don't have their 360 up to the net aren't going to be hitting game sites looking for reviews anyhow ;-)
My Gamestop is having a midnight launch but im not a real big fan of them so I might just wait until Tuesday morning to pick it up. I'll see how I feel tomorrow night I suppose.
NO SPOILERS OUTSIDE OF BLACK-OUTED TEXT, BLACKED-OUT TEXT HAS SOME THINGS THAT MIGHT BE CONSIDERED SPOILERS BUT NOTHING THAT GIVES AWAY ANYTHING THAT COULD SPOIL THE STORY
Fuck me, the ending was great. In fact the story (while not being the greatest story I've ever witneseed in a video game, sorry Peter ) was all round very, very satisfying and very well put together. The climax of the game (not just the ending, but the whole final sequence) actually made me say "wow" at at a certain point and the inevitable
final choice was very difficult and really felt like it held some weight to it. I went with the Sacrifice, I'll leave it at that, I don't want to spoil anything.
The voice actors were great (I think I heard Stephen Fry as a charcter named Reaver later on in the story, he was, as usual, in top form), wasn't a bad performance to speak of in the main cast.
The world created was brilliant, the sense of humour and (sorry for using this phrase guys) the whimsical nature of it all meshed surprisingly well with the story, even as the story took some darkish turns later on.
Overall not too difficult (you don't ever really die, but you lose experience and your hero gets scarred the fuck up) but still maintained its fun.
Highly recommended guys. You're all in for a treat.
Oh yeah and co-op is a blast, hopefully the online works well, because it will add a LOT of replay value.
EDIT: And one more thing!
I get the impression that there is going to be a direct sequel to this game. There's some subtle hints dropped at the end (Theresa claiming the Spire, an ominous "LT-able" view of the Spire from the docks, etc). Fable 2 downloadable content or Fable 3? I actually think we might be looking at DLC.

I snuck a peak at a live stream and someone was playing the ending section, so i just watched a little bit of the last boss, or at least what i thought it was, turned the sound off, and all i could really think was......"that's it?" I mean seriously, it was kinda pathetic.
I distinctly get the impression the Fable devs love being ignorant to the type of climaxes other game series are known for. Im sure the game is great, at least i hope it is, but when it came to Fable the story was seriously lacking and i expect the same here.

So, you watched the final section of the game, without sound and without playing through any of the game yourself and you expected it to mean something to you?

Fair enough. Maybe it will mean more to you when you go through the main storyline. There have been mixed reports about the ending anyway. Rez says he enjoyed it, but I'm sure I've also read that people were disappointed by it.

Climax was satisfying (yes, yes, lol etc). It was about more than the actual final encounter, it was about the culmination of events and the little tricks the game uses to immerse you and make you reflect on itself that makes it worthwhile. Arguably the final encounter was average, but in context of everything going on around it, it worked.
