Official Mario 64 DS thread

I hate that the touchscreen circle follows your thumb around. I always end up past my reach or at the edge of the screen. I can't use it. They should have anchored the circle wherever you first touched the screen.

I'l risk going into credit debt further and get a DS now if that's true

Although I don't know for certain (and I'm not going to spoil it for myself by looking it up), I really think that I'm probably right.

At one point, the game says that the only person left to rescue is peach. I thought "well duh," but now that I realize there's still one door left.... yeah. Maybe I'm totally off though. Even if it takes all 150 stars to do it you'd think we'd have heard rumblings by now.

Okay. So far I have 114 Stars and I don't want to stop until I have them all. One thing I can say with Mario 64 is it has a masterful level design that still has yet to be reached in current platformers. Mario Sunshine had a tighter engine and more clever stunts, but Mario 64 still has the best levels I've played.

I haven't played the game yet, but I've read a few spoilers, and if you guys are talking about that white door, then:

SPOILERS

All it is, is an empty room with a star. If you try to go in after getting the star, it just makes ghost noises and kicks you out. You need to catch the 8 sparkling white rabbits to get in the door

When Nintendo made fun of their own work on the Bomb omb king's mustache, I knew this port/remake was going to be nothing short of awesome. :D

I just wanna say that 12 years was too long to be without Super Mushrooms.

When I saw that ion the video from GameSpot a while back, I nearly fainted. Nintendo hasn't forgotten their roots at all. Super Mushrooms and Balloon Mario. PLUS all the old skool classic NES SMB sound effects for when you are "swimming" in the air with the balloon Mario or when you punch a Goomba, kick ass!

Mario 64 DS is the best most fun I've had in a Mario game in years. Not even with Sunshine did I have this much fun. Wish they had added a few more actual "painting" levels though. Maybe kicked it up to 200 stars instead.

I just wish I could find the remaining 5 normal rabbits, (Two for Luigi and three for Wario) and the last 7 white ones. Anyone know when they appear?

I think there's some rabbits on the roof of the castle..

I haven't really played this since N64 launch. I forgot how much fun it is.

I'm digging the touch screen control too. It makes the game more challenging. Not in a bad way but you have to pay more attention to the controls. It's harder to do certain sections but it's rewarding because you still have just as much control.

I just wish the rabbits disappeared after you caught them. Since they sometimes stay around, I keep forgetting whether or not I already caught them.

I agree complete.y I only have a handful of them left, so it's becoming a bit of a pain.

My girlfriend is fucking amazing at the "wanted!" minigame. She got 166, but that's b/c she gave up and literally just sat there letting her seconds run out b/c she was sick of playing it. The max the game lets you have is 50 seconds, and she was usually right there, and never dropped below 30.

I watched her play for a while and it was amazing. She would instantly find them, like she almost knew where they were ahead of time. I'm fully convinced that if she was the type to waste a hours of her life on something that mindless she could get to 999.

I just want to echo what most of you are saying; SM64 DS is awesome. Kudos to Nintendo for taking a classic game and making it even better.
