After the encounter with EVA and you head to the swamp iinfested with the alligator like lizards, how do you get rid of the electric gates at either side of the swamp?

you don't.
crawl!

Taking a break from the main game, I just have to say I found the whole Monkies vs. Snake mode hilarious. The codec conversation with all it's references was gold(i.e. Spike, Jimmy, Gabe, Sam.... :lol)

No, I PLAYED 30 minutes.

I watched for equally as long, if not longer.

I laughed at a very bizarre conversation about Godzilla. I rolled my eyes at a drawn out conversation between (spoiler) and Snake.

Then I killed some alligators, and messed around with some guards. I got bored and turned it off.

give this man a battery-powered cigar.

"Yeah, there's one camoflage available so far, with more to come. Hopefully the'll put one of those I sent for the competition, since I didn't get selected to be among the four camos included on the game disc :("

Two up now :)

Hey, is the Kyle Cooper's intro just like the one we saw a sneak preview of on IGN before the video was pulled down?

Yeah, although it's slightly different, but the style is pretty much the same. I still have the mock intro on my HD

And
climb a tree and jump through one that's broken in the middle.

Also..
You can shutdown the electric fences by shooting the relay boxes at the very end of the fence. That way you won't get shocked if you run into the fence when in Alert mode by accident or something

I know this is thread for the game but I figured some might be interested in seeing the revised artwork for the 2 Disc OST for MGS3:

Wow, the battle with The End is amazing. Im digging the next area too. For the Sorrow, have you called every person you can? They always give me great tips on bosses when i call them

I can't tell you how much I loved that battle.
I was starting to get pissed when I couldn't find him, but after you get a good tactic to find him down, it's much more fun.
The tactic Matlock mentioned didn't seem to work for me;
I used sonar for awhile, but what seemed to work best for me was scanning areas with the directonal mic and crawling towards his location until I could get some sort of reading with the thermal goggles. If he's in range of the sonar, he's usually already firing on you.

Back to playing!

also,
the thermal goggles will pick up his footprints as soon as he starts running, so you can easily track which new part of the map he's heading for. the AP sensor works well here, too.
such a fantastic fight.

How are you supposed to hold someone (with the O button), and pull the gun out (with the [] button) at the same time? I hate that, I have to press both buttons at the same time, requiring to use my fingers. Is there something I'm missing here?

it's better that you figure it out on your own. :) consider the theme of the river...

Meh, I kinda knew what to do at first but the thing was that the stupid menu wouldn't appear when I first died, so I just continued and did pointless stuff for the next 10-20 minutes or so, until I tried dying again at the 'spot' and opening the items menu

You could pretty much tap circle and let go once the grapple animation begins. From there, you can start holding square to do the meat-shield thing. You have to have at least one button held down in order to keep the soldier within your chokehold. You can even hold down only L3 while interrogating for example. Just keep switching up held buttons to perform unique actions.

Has anyone found a way to drag guards around while choking them though? This is my biggest complaint with the system so far, too often I grab some guard in the open and want to drag him to some isolated area for interrogation, but I can't figure it out.

So the difference between dragging guards around and slicing their throat is a matter of finding the sensitivity level of the circle button?...dear lord.

I think its pretty easy, because to slice someones throat you really have to push the circle button down hard. Maybe you just have powerful thumbs or something :D

Penny Arcade trolls Metal Gear Solid 3 (found after following a link to a PA trolling of Nintendo DS:

"By the time we had finished the second Metal Gear Solid, we had gone quite mad and had begun literally to chew upon one another....They say time heals all wounds, which isn't actually true. For example, the simple passage of time can't cure aggravated damage (such as that dealt by vulgar magick) or reverse the effects of magical diseases like lycanthropy or mummy rot. However, in our case, it was able to make us forget just how long the cutscenes are in an MGS game. Though not a wound per se, strange sensations are created by them, such as the impression that your brain's mouth is actually agape and hanging open inside your skull. We were listening to a codec conversation yesterday that was so long, so God damned long, that the entire Earth was destroyed, remade, and our species achieved a level of development commensurate with what had risen before.

The cold war setting, the expression of a different era of espionage altogether is the main reason I wanted it - and in this, it strikes unerringly. The idea - the idea, now - of sneaking through natural environments, this also drew me in. The cinematography is, again, marvelous. Konami has managed to find a cache of powerful, secret chips in the system and are working them in tandem, like a rowing crew. I'll tell you true, though: I don't know if I can endure the game long enough to reveal it in any significant quantity. The controls don't feel classic at this point, they feel obstinate. The organic setting and global glow just serves to muddy things I need to be explicit, like enemy locations and environmental features. You have to want to like it pretty bad, and honestly, I thought I did."

"First of all everything Tycho said about MGS 3 is right on the money. If you want to know what the game is like but you don’t want to buy it, here’s what you do. Go out into your backyard and lay down in the grass for fifteen hours. Every twenty minutes have a friend come out and step on your balls. That will give you a pretty good idea of what MGS 3 is like."

Every time I go to that site, they're complaining about something, I swear. They bug me.

Thanks for the help skip!

I just beat The Pain and this game is quickly becoming a GOTY contender for me. My other choices are SC:PT and Halo 2. CQC rules...

The voice acting for the most part TOTALLY blows. They're not even trying anymore at this. The VA's lack range, acting ability, and generally all missed any emotional marks the story had.

I hope to god this is the last of the MGS series wrapping up the trilogy, because if David Hayter is like this now I'd hate to hear what he'd be like for the rumored MGS4. Holy hell did he ever mess this up.

Does anyone know if this works with the HD Loader?

I've read of some skipping problems and my disc drive has been on it's way out for months now. If this does not work with the HDloader than I will probably just wait and see if it gets ported to the xbox.

It works, but I don't think the healing when the console is off works since the dates on the saves games change when using HDloader

Healing when the console is off? What? I have read nothing about this.

Ah, it was bugging me for a while but did anyone notice Neil Ross as Colonel Volgin also voiced Springer from the Transformers Movie?

:D

I was able to get it on store credit, I had a lot after getting rid of all my old Gamecube crap.

So, I didn't spend a dime on it.

How is it trolling? I shared my honest opinion. From what I played, it was shit. Don't like it? Fuck off, that's not breaking any rules.

Man this game is probably goty for me now. Just beat the pain. Surprised at just how difficult it can be at times jeez...

David Hayter sounds like someone impersonating David Hayter.

That's basically it. Ever since the first MGS he's been trying too hard to sound like Solid in that game and it comes off kind of fake.

Has anyone downloaded the Mummy camo yet?

How, in the world do you beat The Sorrow? The theme of the river hint didnt seem to help, so anyone want to give me a bigger hint, or just straight out and tell me? I really dont feel like seeing the end of the river for the 4th time. It takes way to long

I think all the voice actiing is wonderful so far. The only MGS game I had a problem with voice acting was TTS. David's voice acting was weird there.

slightly bigger hint:

the theme is death...sorrow tells you to "wake up"...

how to do it:

use your fake death pill when sorrow says "wake up", or actually any time before the end of the river.

It's too late to write anything coherent, but man I'm at the begiinning of the Operation Snake Eater, and I love this game to tears. Everything about it has been beautiful so far.

Well then, you're in luck, because the stuff you've already played, while still good, has been the worst part of the game so far for me. It gets much better.

I'm loving this game. The bosses are awesome, the story is coherent (so far), and the game is challenging, but not to the point of frustration (again, so far).

I can see how some people might not like this game, but for me, this is good stuff.

Shit, the enemies wake up FAST in Hard mode. I'm going to start killing them after shooting them with a tranquilizer because they're waking up before I can even advance far enough.

I like that, though. The game is pretty challenging. Though I often commit suicide after being found because its so easy/impractical to escape. I wish the 'Game Over when found' option was available from the beginning.
