So much for a birthday release. :(

I know that magazine, buy it whenever im in France. Its an enternaning read. Theres a 6-8 page reader Letters section in which the editor spends the whole time insulting his readership, calling them worthless, wastes of air and everything thats wrong with society. Its awesome. Its mostly devoted to RPGs and has had some good in depth reviews/massive write ups. Theire big reviews run pretty long, biggest Ive seen was an 18 page review for one game.

That score doesnt surprise me in the least.

The Crocodile Mask is in the swamp area. You have to reach the other side of the swamp then climb across a couple of trees to reach it.

I'm playing in Hard mode, and i got to the End battle.. for some reason the sniper rifle isn't in the shed on the west side of the map.. is there any other place to get the sniper rifle before the End battle? I don't want to change my strategy for beating him...

Search the forest areas before The End's.

Sorry if this is off topic but I only recently started playing MGS3 a few days ago, just beat The End and have been watching my girlfriend's sister play through MGS3 (she's upto that fortress Groznjyi Grad or however you spell it).

Anyway, this is her first ever MGS ever and she is completely addicted to it. She got home from work yesterday and started playing MGS3 for around 5 hours.. so I am quite a little excited about her playing the other two because it'll be so weird for her to actually go semi-backwards through the timeline, i.e. she'll know who Big Boss is etc. Anyway my version of MGS and MGS2 are in another country for the time being, but she is keen on grabbing MGS2.

Reckon I should let her play through MGS2 before MGS at all? Not too sure if she would play the original on PS1 or whether I could find a copy in Singapore :|

edit: thanks for the tag whoever did it, you rock.

Well, if she enjoys mgs's story then i would recommend getting a copy of mgs or mgs:TTS because she would be seriously confused if she didnt play mgs first. If she doesnt care about the story too much then you could always tell her to read the back story of mgs1 in mgs2 or just play mgs2 without any knowledge of mgs1.

so because of outside circumstances i was unable to play MGS3 for the longest time but last night i finnally got were i had left it off at the fury fight. the knife does work! :D
then i just sniped him and took care of him fairly easily. but i wouldnt exactly recommend getting up close to him that much. you'll burn something awful. but what a cut-scene, my goodness these are the best PS2 graphics bar-none.

so i made my way to groznyj grad, WOAH......... now this is how an enemy base should look like. so i go
looking for raikov and alert the base at once, didnt put on the scientist camo and ended up killing some scientists. they had it coming anyway. anyone notice raikov even has the same moves as raiden? i was laughing the whole time it was so funny (and i liked raiden)
the colonel sure put a hurting on "snake" though. and what is he talking about the phylosopher's legacy!? what three countries? it's only the USA and russia involved!
i can see where ocelot learned how to torture people. i wonder if there would be any friction in the future between ocelot and "snake" when they work together in zanzibar and outer heaven. by the way the music rocks!! specially in the cutscene where "snake" jumps off the sewers.
i'm up to the sorrow boss fight, how come when he was standing behind the boss in the torture room nobody noticed him?i pressed R1 and he was holding a sign or something, very weird. i'm not gonna fight him now though, i'll save him for when i'm rested up.

That's what KCEJ just posted on their site (it's from a magazine in France). I didn't think mags really did scores where they give games higher than their review charts allow.

Alright, which one of you gaffers reviewed this ? :lol

Let the story develop a little more, there's a good explanation for that. :)

Man do I SUCK at this game. I've yet to succesfully stealth my way through an entire indoor zone, and its frustrating me to no end. I never had this much difficulty in the past 2 MGS games. My approach has been to slit every neck I see, but more often then not I end up shotgunning my way through the game. Very aggravating. Where have my skills gone?

All well, I can still appreciate the awesome bosses. :(

If my girlfriend's sister can play 3/4 the way through it on her first ever MGS game, then I'm sure you can too. As well as taking people out or tranq'ing them more often, use the camera LOTS. At first I thought it was a stupid idea but by halfway it is natural.

Quickly replayed it a few days ago after I finished it for the first time and I can easily say that MGS3 is as great as, if not more so, than the original.

not even close to goty, finished it last night.. ok game.. 7/10

the camera and control really suck..

and whats up with Ocelots voice (and body) actor.. awful.. just awful

actually a lot of the actors are really bad, snake himself comes to mind also

overall the game felt like a psx game with better gfx gameplay-wise

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol x 1,000,000,000,000

Do you know if there is a collection of all the awesome cutscenes of the game?
Something like the famous THEATER MODE that will be in PAL version.

Thanks.

Near the end:

How do I get Eva to eat?

She has to be close to Snake, then go to Survival Viewer like you'd feed Snake, when you select a food item you'll have the choice between feeding it to Snake or Eva.

This may have been mentioned, but what is the name of the song that plays during the end credits? It sounds like Coldplay but it's probably a pretty old song. There's no music credits in the instruction manual.

I bought MGS3 the other and just got the The End boss fight, I was doing pretty well, until The End found me! I was just scanning the area I was in with the thermal googles. All of a sudden I hear the end talk and think that he is off in the distance going to shot, camera pulls back and the end is right behide me and then shoots me. Wake up in a jail ceil, decide to quit and try that fight again.

the sign he shows you is actually a codec frequency. if called, it opens your cell door. i did this immediately after watching the cinima. if it wasn't for the fact that i accidentally shut the system off before saving, i would have missed the whole dream sequence. good thing i was an idiot.)

so as i said i'm posting my impressions. in one word : WOOOOOOOOOOW!!!

*ahem* let me break it down
so i break out of the cell after johnny sasaki's dad takes the crapping of a lifetime :lol by the way, grozny grad has got to be the biggest enemy base in a game that i have seen. using the SAA is so cool when you can bounce the bullets of the ground, or go nuts with the M63.
anyways the graphics were really good looking at this point, anyone who complains about the game not being 60 frames and whatnot is fooling themselves. what is the name of that music playing while the guards and dogs chase snake in the sewers?
so, onto the sorrow boss fight. what a shock! he was dead! and i didnt actually fight, just had a bad dream or something. anyone notice that the guards are actualy the ones that you kill? man, that fight went on for 20 minutes there were so many soldiers dead!! and what the say is funny too! (a soldier holding his crotch said "see how'd you like it!" ) ow, my neck! but more importantly is what the sorrow said, "your sons will kill you" or something to that nature.
anyways..... the boss had to kill him huh? but they never said why exactly. and at least i now understand what the philosophers are and what they do. by the way, how can i drain volgin's stamina bar? i wanted that camo that he had..... it was funny volgin freaking out when i had on the raidenovich mask on :lol i'll finish this later... i was gonna make a second post but decided to edit this one instead. so the base goes BOOM! and the shagohod is still intact, GOD DAMN! MY EYES HAVE FALLEN TO THE FLOOR!!! WOOOOOAH!! HOLY GEEZ WAS THAT COOL!! this is how all end stages of games should be like!! holy shinkles.....i wish all my weapons hadnt had infinite ammo though, it would have made for a better challenge against all those soldiers.
by the way, I prefered to shoot in the more "cinematic view"how'd you guys do it? and while i had no problems with metal gear rex (i could beat him blindfolded) i had some trouble with the rays in part two, the shagohod was kinda tricky in the firts part. it was like a mix of rex and ray, disable leg, shoot vulnerable area. at least once i found out that i could jump in front of it and roll under him it was easier.
so that was the end of volgin, so long and farewell to that freak i say. (but he was the coolest MGS villain in my opinion, only behind liquid and old ocelot. and i finally figured out why EVA needed to eat so much... she was stabbed like piggy from deliverance.it's also funny to hear her talk when she's asleep.... so the "boss"eh? and volgin!? hehehehe..... :)
and i see nipples!! it was in the x-ray viewer but i saw them!! is there a way that i can go through this area a bit quicker than having to mow down every soldier that i see? that was a bit too hard..... or maybe my skills have gone down the crapper? or maybe the games are getting harder? and EVA sure is greedy isnt she? took all my noodles..... damn woman
so i finally made it to the boss fight and it was quite interesting to hear why the boss did what she did, her country has betrayed her but she'll still fight on for her country's well being. i admired that, but jeez.... why'd i have to shoot her? (who is her child by the way?) will he make an appareance in future tittles? by the way, the boss fight is officially the hardest boss fight in the series if you try to do it hand to hand. jesus H. christ i was getting owned left and right, but the M63 fixed her broken belly didnt it? i kinda wished that maybe snake would have reconsidered and offered the boss a chance to come clean but i guess that wasnt in the cards was it? :( arent there supposed to be some rare snakes in this stage? the most beautiful stage i've seen anywhere by the way, really pushed the hardware as hard as it can be pushed.
so... goodbye boss (what were those snakes that came out of here in the end?) and ocelot doesnt give up does he? so his name is adamska eh? and snake's is "john"but boss kept calling him "jack"so which is it?
final. final thoughts and some questions later.

Youch. I saw some MGS2 models in Singapore, nice high quality at over $100 SG each :(

I'm guessing you're talking about The Boss? Her son is Ocelot.

I bought the OST yesterday. The package is so sweeet! :D

And I recommend everyone to download the Substance OST from the Auman site. It's totally awesome, I promise! :)

Yeah, I'm late to the party, but better late than never. Finally getting to see what all the fuss was about with this series.

Finished The Twin Snakes (incredible, one of the best games ever) and The Sons of Liberty (yuck!) over the last few days and have now started The Snake Eater. Just finished watching the James Bond 'esque intro some 3 hours into the game and I'm blown away so far.

Incredible visuals are an understatement for this game. It's certainly the best representation of a jungle setting in a video game thus far. The camoflauge and CQC system's rock and is a pleasant change of pace for the Soliton Radar in the previous games. It took me awhile to adjust to the sometimes annoying camera view without having radar, but once I did, I've been having a blast in the limited amount of gameplay so far. :lol

The hunting and cure aspects seem a bit fruity and serve as fluff rather than needed gameplay elements, but I suppose they give the game a bit more realism in regards to the survival theme.

MGS3 certainly looks like it's going to be entertaining for the duration and will hopefully make up for the mess that was SoL.
