Octocam!

Oh the shits. Next-gen gameplay confirmed!!!

* If you shoot the perspective changes into the RE4 Shoot Mode.
I hope they improve on RE4 control system and make it possible to strafe or move in this mode, like in Syphon Filter on PSP, or perhaps move slower like in Splinter Cell.

I like the MGS first person view though. There's something about it, especially crawling in the grass and such, and they really nailed the aiming in MGS3.

WAIT A SEC. How come his face is Octocamoed too?

EDIT: Please from now on bump this thread with care. I'm having an heart attack every time I see this coming up the list.

That's why i'm wondering if its Snake. Kojima said his face wouldn't be able to be covered (as well as his shoes) so you were never fully disguised. But gaurds have full body covering so maybe they have the tech?

MGS3 3rd person view when running about/RE4 style aiming for shooting

.....winning combo confirmed for me :D :D :D

....seriously, I was never a big fan of the 1st person view either

....but I am a fan of:

Could it be Raiden?

Then to, he has a sword...

Come on TGS!

the octocamo looks a little silly there -- they've just applied one of the wall textures to snake, without taking the different patterns on the wall into account. i certainly don't know why people are shouting OMG THIS IS NEXT-GEN

should be a neat gameplay mechanic, though -- i really liked the camo in mgs3, but going into a menu and magically switching patterns seemed a touch too abstract.

Multiple orgasms over a small scan. I can't imagine how crazy this thread will be in a couple of days :lol

I can't wait! :)

You should send your complains to this guy here:

"Oh, I fail at taking the different patterns into account"

Yeah it looks pretty weak to be honest.

:lol Kojima even showed his team some videos of that thing to give them an idea of what he was looking for with it.

nature cannot simply apply an environmental texture to an octopus, as that picture actually illustrates. here they seem to be going for something more artificial, but they haven't done it in adequate detail.

so you mean to tell me Snake's octocamo isn't natural or realistic? WHAT?

I bet next you tell me the Gekkou's are 'made up' too, huh? :D

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuurrreee. Actually nature can apply an environmental texture to an octopus. It's all depending.

Did you take into account that he is moving?

The hirony of all this is that what you are looking for is what Yoboman says that pic looks to be showing. That is, invisibility, which would give exactly the result you are asking for: perfect reproduction of what's behind Snake.

What the Octocamo (as well the octopus) does is an approximation of the patterns the suit "touches".

EDIT: HOLY SHIT THE SCANS (PHOTOS :/) ARE IN OMG AAARRGGHH!!!!

OMG GAMEPLAY SHOTS

can't wait to see proper scans, but thanks, chittagong.

i'm pretty sure the tgs trailer will have gameplay footage now. *dies*

and the sdf needs to settle down -- i'm an mgs fanboy, and if i pick on details, it's because mgs is more meticulous about detail than any other games i can think of.

Answer my question!!!

i didn't take into account that he may be moving, nor do i see how that would account for one texture being uniformly applied across his body. it's pointless to talk about whether it's "realistic," i suppose -- it just doesn't look particularly good to me.

edit: i just noticed snake using an oil drum as a cardboard box :lol

Easy, he was leaning against the wall texture with only the same pattern for his camosuit to pick up on, mostly likely crouching in place. I'm trying to clearify what you mean, I mean the wall pattern is right there.

I'm loving that with all the grim talk Kojima's mentioned about this game. Anything that shows the humor from the series is a good thing. I want it to be serious but not over the top in that department.

That's a great tease. Hopefully we'll get some larger scans soon as I'd actually like to read the article.

The new perspective looks as I expected and is going to be a great change, I think. The previous MGS titles were all 4:3 and I don't believe this perspective works as well in 4:3.
