Official MLB Thread - 2006 Season

The Braves are so ****ing unlucky. Watching the last two innings and missle after missle being caught, I can only be resigned to say that this just wasn't meant to be our year. We're now 9-20 in one run games. Do you realize how unlucky you have to be to have that kind of one run game disparity?

And tonight we couldn't even beat a team that doesn't even exist anymore (Tarpons).

edit: where the hell was ken williams when he was giving that interview???

I know!

Either:

A: A mental asylum, where he belongs...because despite the team's success, he's lucky and pretty stupid
B: Heaven, which I'm sure Eminem will have you believe

OH MY GOD **** you Izzy you worthless piece of human garbage go kill yourself.

Oh and the AL is AL is now 94-55 against the NL. Talk about owned.

oh yeah, KW was over at my crib. We were going over some recent offers and throwing back a bottle of Don Perignon and those damn reporters stopped by.

another edit:

The Sox are confident, the Sox are loose. When Crede came up with the bases loaded, he said that he told Rob Mackowiak, the on-deck batter: "I'm swinging at the first pitch, no matter where it is."

:lol A sound strategy against Qualls.

Can you watch games or get results of simulated season stuff?

You can simulate everything if you want(either day by day, week by week, an entire month or year/etc.) or go through a play by play mode where you act as the manager throughout the entire game, or just watch the whole game.
So basically you can be the GM and manager or just the GM. Even if you sim everything you still adjust all the team strategies.

There's cool shit like players having other MLB player friends that help them get traded/boost their moral, etc. There's arbitration, you decide who gets called up from the minors, etc. If you enjoy the owner modes in games, you'll love this so much more because you have so much more control. It still has all the options for ticket and concession prices and stuff, but that's just the beginning.
Another cool thing is that computer managers are constantly offering you trades for minor league players, and you can scout them and stuff if you want. Then 3 years later you'll see how good the players you traded became, and the crap you got stuck with is still struggling in the minors. Like I said, it's awesome if you ever felt you could really run a team.

But to be clear, there aren't any real graphics. This isn't like manager mode on Madden or anything. It's more about running a franchise.

And quoting from the link I gave, if anyone else wants to know some things:

NEW All-Time Leaders! Active and all-time career and single-season leaders tracked for over 75 stats. See if Barry Bonds can break Hank Aaron's record.

NEW Historical Rookies! Start in any historical season and Baseball Mogul will automatically include minor and major league players for every team. As you build your dynasty, real rookies from seasons past become available for the Amateur Draft.

NEW Player Personalities and Morale! Manage the individual personalities of your team to build the right team chemistry.

NEW Expanded Contract Negotiations! Arbitration. Free agency. Use player options and no-trade clauses to sweeten the deal and land the best players.

NEW Minor League System! Manage up to 100 players in your farm system. From draft day until retirement, you are in control of the entire organization. Track player development using new written scouting reports and stats for high school, college and every minor league level.

NEW Rosters! Detailed career stats through Opening Day 2006, including over 10,000 players.

The 2007 edition is $20, and honestly, it's pretty clunky so far. I still like 2006 more at this point.

You know who i like?

Managers who don't exploit their winning position.

And Papelbon. Good lord (for those who believe in such things)

Looking at the stats, and considering their salaries:

Crede
AVG .302 | HR 14 | RBI 53 | OBP .335 | SLG .528 | .863 OPS | .966 FPCT | .364 w/RISP

A-Rod
AVG .281 | HR 15 | RBI 51 | OBP .395 | SLG .504 | .899 OPS | .945 FPCT | .313 w/RISP

Crede is the man.

Nah

Tomorrow is Trachsel, the Jays will light him up more than Towers will be lit up

God damn not Trachsel, he is so god damn slow. Even with Trachsel on the mound I am not too confident in a win. Halladay gave up 4 runs and Janssen gave up 5, so that leads me to believe that Towers is going to get rocked hard today. I won't be surprised if he only lasts a couple of innings.

I want to hate Crede so much, but I can't. For the same reason I found it hard to really hate Rowand. Defensive players FTW. (BUT **** EDMONDS!)

I think I just put all my ChiSox hate towards Podsednik.

Jose Reyes again is tearing it up again today. 3 for 3 in the game so far,a homerun, and a stolen base. This kid is really maturing into an even more dangerous hitter.

Gee look who made it back in the news today.....

*JOHN ROCKER*

Ozzie Guillen was ordered to attend sensitivity training for a homophobic slur he made about Chicago Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti. According to John Rocker, Guillen won't get anything out of it.

"This is a free country. If he wants to use a lewd term, he should be able to use a lewd term. Can't you use a lewd term in America if you want?"
John Rocker on Ozzie Guillen

When Rocker was ordered to attend similar training after the former Braves reliever made offensive remarks in a Sports Illustrated story published in 1999, he left shortly after showing up, he told the Chicago Tribune.

"The guy told me when I got there I had to show up to make it look good for people, so after about 15 minutes I left and walked right out of the room and it satisfied the powers that be," Rocker told the newspaper.

Rocker was a teammate of Guillen's with the Atlanta Braves in 1998-99 and said he considers Guillen a friend. He defended Guillen's right to speak his mind.

"This is a free country. If he wants to use a lewd term, he should be able to use a lewd term," Rocker told the newspaper. "Can't you use a lewd term in America if you want?"

Guillen also was fined an undisclosed amount of money for his profanity-laced tirade against Mariotti.

On Friday, Guillen ruffled more feathers when he said he did not actually expect to attend the sensitivity training class.

"I don't think I'll be going, I don't think that'll happen," Guillen told ESPNdeportes.com in an interview at U.S. Cellular Field. The interview was conducted in Spanish.

"I think the commissioner ordered that in order to calm things down, but, obviously, to attend one of those, I'll have to take English lessons first," he added. "I'll do what I have to do, at least when I have time, but I don't think I'll take those sensitivity lessons."

A few minutes after leaving the interview room, Guillen said through a team spokesman that he would undergo the training.

Rocker was banned from baseball until May 1 by commissioner Bud Selig, who also imposed a $20,000 fine and ordered Rocker to attend sensitivity training for the remarks he made to Sports Illustrated, but an arbitrator reduced the suspension to the first two weeks of the season, cut the fine to $500 and allowed Rocker to report to spring training on March 2.

In the SI article, John Rocker said he would never play for a New York team because he didn't want to ride a train "next to some queer with AIDS". He also bashed immigrants, saying "How the hell did they get in this country?" He also called a black teammate a "fat monkey," spit on a toll machine and mocked Asian women.

"It was a farce, a way for the scared little man, Bud Selig, to get people off his [backside]," Rocker, speaking to the Tribune, said of the sensitivity training.

He also told the newspaper that he didn't pay any of the fine levied against him by Selig. Rocker was fined $20,000 for his comments, but that was reduced to $500 after appeal.

"I never paid a cent, a lot of players never pay a cent," Rocker told the newspaper. "It's just a front to look good and the way Selig cowers to pressure."

Why the **** is Josh Towers still in the starting rotation? Injuries be damned, get this asshole out of the rotation, and into the minors. WTF is wrong with Gibbons?

Not only did Towers suck, we ****ing started the scrubbiest line up of the year. Its like Gibbons gave up before it even started. Don't rest Glaus and Rios on the same damn day.

Who else would start, Chacin is gone til August, we want Taubenheim in the bullpen, McGowan is doing well but we want him to build up some confidence in the minors, Purceys control sucks, Banks gives up too many homers, Romero is about 2 years away. We have no other viable starters to pitch for him.

A screaming Carl Everett, mean guy, confronted me outside the Sox' clubhouse last October. Oh, and before a playoff game, while I joined a live ESPN "SportsCenter'' segment on the field, Guillen yelled at me from the dugout, "Get off our field before I kick your ass!''

So, do you want me on your field, Ozzie, or do you not want me on your field? Can't have it both ways. I'm confused.

There have been incidents involving Frank Thomas and a bat he wanted to put up my butt "sideways.'' There was a disturbing 15-minute standoff with a screaming Tony Phillips. Aaron Rowand always yapped about wanting a piece of my hide. Hawk Harrelson blathers on in that drawl about some bird, and all it does is enflame fans who make threats on e-mail and voice mail.

You'd think it would tell Mariotti something when the list of players who have threatened him is that long.

Dammit, I keep telling you Blue Jays fans. Josh Towers for Jose Lima straight up. No backsies. Just take Jose Lima...

What? You don't want him? I'll include a very secret offensive weapon...

I see we are skipping Janssens next start, hopefully he can regain his control against the Phillies.

So how does the rotation work out for the washington series? Tuesday Burnett, Wednesday Lilly, Thursday Halladay? or does Lilly go before Burnett? Where did you hear they're skipping Janssen's next start?

God this feels good.
