Papelbon saved all three games against the Braves in our series. AL East closers have not been kind to the Braves in the past week.

Papelbon and BJ need to breed. They will give life to a supercloser the world has never seen before.

Man, Liriano looked more relaxed tonight than any pitcher I've ever seen. The guy seemed completely laid back.

BJ Ryan is awesome, gives up 3 hits but still gets out of it. Burnett was pretty damn good too, defense let him down on the 2nd run. Good thing the rest of our interleague games are at home, our offense has struggled in the national league. I see Taubenheim got a win out of it, good he did well to clean up Downs mess in the 7th.

Just reiterating how awesome it is that Cabrera singled on an IBB pitch

I've been waiting for this ever since I saw Kelly Leak do it in Bad News Bears as a kid. But I think he might've homered when he did it.

It's made more amazing that it actually worked out so well. He had to make contact, and get the ball to fall in the outfield so the runner could score from second. The fact that it was the winning run also helps.

If the Marlins keep it up, they might be the youngest, lowest paid team to ever make it into the post-season. Damn, I would love that! I predict another WS title to Florida by 2008...

I think the postseason is still a very huge longshot, but it's good to see them play well.

When the Mets traded Kazmir for Zambrano I was devastated. Watching this kid Liriano made me feel just as bad for Giants fans. They traded this kid and Nathan for Pierzynski. What the hell was Sabean thinking?

I'm actually glad the Braves have the 2nd worst record in baseball at this point. Maybe now they will actually rebuild the team from the ground up and we can get a squad that won't choke come postseason every year.

"Lets help our good buddies in Minnesota out!" :D

No, Ichiro... 0-4! He's one of only two M's not to get a hit tonight, along with awful Sexson. Ichiro's streak will end unless he gets another AB.

And that is the end of that hitting streak.

With the Jays strong play (ignoring a couple of godawful interleague sweeps, wtf was up in Florida anyway) I haven't been taking as much time to appreciate the Braves awesome badness lately. Hate that ****ing team, abject failure looks good on em.

I didn't actually watch the game, but AJ had a pretty good line. He pitch as well as his 2ER and 7Ks in 6IP would indicate? Meh like most Jays fans, I already feel like AJ is a bust and he's going to get hurt right away again anyway.

He pitched better than his line indicated. Both his earned runs were questionable, thanks to poor defence by Shea Hillenbrand. He was also taken out after 6 ip with 91 pitches, probably could have gone longer but the Jays are babying him. Still, it's just the Atlanta Braves - even Josh Towers looked decent against them.

Pitched damn well, probably doesn't deserve the 2ER as Hillenbrand screwed up 2 groundballs to him. He started to kinda struggle late though but was able to get out of it.

General point of curiousity-

Outside of NL East, Astros, and (maybe) Indians fans, what's the motivation for hating on the Braves? Is there something infuriating about watching them continuously drop out of the playoffs? Because I would've figured that most people would have just started finding that an object of amusement by around 2000 or so.

Because theyre the most boring and predictable team in baseball. Cleaning teams clocks in the regular season, then getting the boot come post season. 14 consecuitive years of that shit, its about time it ends.

I think it's that stupid ooooooooooooh chant that their fans do.

Oh I agree with you, even though these rookies are better than most pro's out there, imagine what 2 years of experience will do to these future all stars. Pluse it will probably go hand in hand with a new ballpark.

However I feel that the Marlins can already beat any team out there, and they have proven it already, even beating the Mets before going on the streak. It will be interesting to see how the Marlins play against the Yankees tomorrow in their first trip to N.Y. scince game 6 of the WS in 2003. Then after that, they have to come home and play the Red Sox. We'll see if they can pull through. If they can beat these two teams in the series, I'd say they have a good chance for a playoff run. And that would be very exciting for baseball and would probably give us a hands down ball park.

I predict that the Marlins won't even be in Florida by 2008. San Antonio maybe??

Seriously, I absolutely hate the ****ing Tomahawk gesture and that awful chant they do. So freaking annoying. And their bullshit "streak" is an insult to former Expos fans everywhere, thank god that's about to finally end. Not to mention I was heartily sick of having to watch them so damn much in the early 90s, and the gag inducing homerism of the TBS crew foisted on baseball viewers across the continent for over a decade. And I have a bad image of their fans, not only because of the chanting and shit but the way their home games would be only 70% full for the beginning of the playoffs. Weaksauce! And Ted Turner is unspeakably annoying. The only downside is that the Braves have a number of Canadians on their roster, which makes hating them tougher for me.

Oh, while I'm spewing here's some bonus Braves hate fodder, Chipper "Nostradamus II" Jones during spring training! "The organization is in pretty good hands for the next number of years with the amount of young talent that we have, I guess we should consider ourselves lucky we have made the transition and stayed pretty competitive."

San Antonio? Haven't you heard those talks are dead? The Marlins are about to close a deal in Hialeah... Not what I would have wanted, because on the bay would have been nice, but I'll take what I can get.

The Marlins won't leave Miami, it's not intelligent because this is the best market for them, and they have said the same thing.

Bingo! Miami is an untapped goldmine for a baseball team. The location of their stadium couple with the fact that it rains everyday is a serious hinderance to attendance.

You put a retractable roof stadium closer to the center of population in Miami and things are completely different.

BOSTON --Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Brett Myers was arrested Friday and charged with hitting his wife in the face on a street not far from Fenway Park.

Myers, who was scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Red Sox, pleaded not guilty to assault charges at his arraignment Friday in Boston Municipal Court, said David Procopio, a spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. Myers' next court date is Aug. 4.

Myers was arguing with his wife shortly after midnight at the corner of Boylston and Dalton streets, Procopio said. The woman and two witnesses told police the 25-year-old pitcher hit her. One witness told investigators Myers also pulled her hair.
****ing scumbag

**** that, I agree they need a new stadium with a roof, but moving it to central Miami would probably cut down on attendance. Right now, the stadium is right off the highway and pretty much right on the Broward and Dade county line. It's extremely accessable to everyone.

Moving the stadium into the heart of Miami would all but guarantee that no one from Broward or Palm Beach counties would even bother. The traffic alone is enough of a deterrence, not to mention that Miami proper is pretty scummy. Plus there's the fact that absolutely nothing down there is in English anymore. I know I certainly wouldn't bother going to any games.

If you call dropping two out of three at home "beating," then sure...

I do think the Marlins have a very bright future, though, as long as management sticks to its guns and lets all the young talent blossom.

Right now the Marlins are a real life version of Major League.

If they got any press at all, Uggla would be way up there in all-star voting. He's a machine.

Tonight it's Contreras vs Pettitte as Jose goes for 16 in a row, and the Sox for 8 in a row.. Astros, prepare to be swept like it's the 2005 World Series.

Barring an injury or something unexpected, he will be honored for his emergence by serving as the American League starter in next month's All-Star Game.

"If Contreras is available, he will go,'' said White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, who will name the starter. "If he makes the team, he should be [the starting pitcher]. He has the best numbers.''

Oh, yes, the numbers. Let's give them a quick review.

Contreras enters a World Series rematch against Houston on Friday night riding a 15-game winning streak over 20 regular-season starts. He's compiled a 2.57 earned run average during that stretch. He's 7-0 with a 2.96 ERA this season.

Including his work as the White Sox's No. 1 starter last October, Contreras is 18-1 with a 2.65 ERA in his last 24 starts; during that stretch, he has allowed more than three earned runs only three times. The lone loss was a 3-2 defeat against the Los Angeles Angels in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series, a game in which Contreras pitched into the ninth inning.

It's hard to believe this is the guy who was traded at midseason by the Yankees in '04. If losing him wasn't maddening enough for George Steinbrenner, consider that the Yankees have paid $2 million of Contreras' salary in each of the last two years.

That bolded part is ridiculous.

Huge series coming up this weekend for the Astros. Tonight and Sunday should be amazing games.

After losing all four games by a total of six runs in last year's World Series, the Astros have a chance to prove that they can beat the defending champs.

Six runs... lost by an average of 1.5 runs... so lame.

:lol Saturday it's like Garland vs Buchholz? Who cares.

I was hoping Clemens would get pushed back a day so we could face him.
