That, and when the Packers finish 4-12 again :)

Im really excited to see how the AL will play out this year. As it stands there are about 6 different teams that could be in the WS in my opinion. ****in awesome

Do you wanna bet on that?

youre fronting like you dont?
Youre the most egregious case of met fanaticism on this board sir. Granted solrac can be pretty lame, but you go above and beyond with your emphatic bolding and italicization of words
Holy crap, I always do that on every board. How many times I gotta say this: I POST LIKE I TALK. I put heavy emphasis on certain things and italicize others to show their meaning as a title or some junk. It also goes back to my writing where I do the same.

Waitasec, how does he not mention my images, gifs, YTMNDs, offsite smileys (which I kinda think some people started doing it after me), Japanese anime images, and my claim to be unofficial leader of DeGeneration Mets? That's krrrr-aazzzyyyyy!!

I'd bet on the Mets not making the World Series, if that is what you're getting at.

edit: wow, I hate the Cubs, but I had no idea shit was this serious:

The racist letters have come as regularly as the boos this season at the corner of Clark and Addison, part of the dramatic changes at Wrigleyville since Steve Bartman tried to catch that foul ball in the 2003 National League Champion Series.

Former Cubs center fielder Corey Patterson and former reliever LaTroy Hawkins last year received similar abuse to what Baker is getting. Cubs right fielder Jacque Jones, who had a baseball thrown at him during a game, recently got a threatening early-morning phone call.

Hawkins, now with the Baltimore Orioles, had Major League Baseball security open much of his mail last season when he was with the Cubs. He was stunned by the hatred.

"I thought that stuff was over 30 years ago," says Hawkins, who grew up in nearby Gary, Ind. "I had never been exposed to it. ... I couldn't believe people were dropping the 'n-word' on me. People calling your mother a raccoon or you a porch monkey. You can only take so much abuse until you fight back.

"The same thing happening to me is happening to Jacque. To have people threatening to harm us over baseball games just doesn't make sense."

Melissa Baker, married to Dusty for 12 years, no longer attends home games. Darren, their 7-year-old son, will occasionally tag along with his dad before games.

But once the game starts, his mom takes him back to their two-bedroom condo and they watch the game on TV.

"The true fans have been great, but it's changed there and become hostile," she says. "I can't subject a 7-year-old to people booing his dad or hearing that kind of language. You want him to go somewhere where there's no negativity.

"But you can't always protect him. Someone mentioned to him at the park the other day, 'I heard that your dad will be fired.' He has no clue."

She, too, worries about her husband. She changed the home phone number. Darrin's voice has been taken off the manager's voice mail. She pleads with him to take precautions, imploring him to tell MLB security each time he receives threatening letters.

"Nobody wants to hear about race, but unless you're a minority, you can sympathize, but you can't relate," says Baker's wife, of Philippine descent. "It's shocking that these things still go on. It's just a baseball game, but there's so much hostility.

Don Baylor, who managed the Cubs from 2000-'02, remembers the hatred. He, too, was subjected to racist letters, just not to the extent that Baker is facing.

"I've talked to Dusty, and he's suffering," Baylor says. "It's a tough place to play, a tough place to manage. It's like they bring that hatred to the ballpark.

"They say that Cubs fans are great. Define that for me. Is that throwing things on the field, showing disdain for your players? Is that your definition?

"When does it end?"

the friendly confines indeed

Friends . . . Romans . . . Yankee fans,

Don't you see how all this started?

That makes no sense to me. Why reward these bum ****ing Braves for pissing on a legacy of regular season greatness?

Don't get me wrong... when the Braves do something worth bragging about (beating the Mets, Jeff Francouer drawing a walk) I'm in here to brag about it. Otherwise? I subscribe to the adage of "If you don't have something positive to talk about, don't talk about anything."

Mets fans should know about that, it's been about six years, right?
More hatorade from a fan whose team isn't even in the hunt! He hasn't even posted since (probably sitting back enjoying his handiwork). Are you going to let him play you people like fiddles? Why not wait until the last week or two to throw down the gauntlet?

Whatever, man. I'm getting really tired of all the shit-talking everyone is doing in regards to Mets fans as if guys cheering for other teams doing well aren't doing the same goddamn thing.

I'd say RIGHT NOW, the best candidates for the WS in the AL are the yankees and the twins, solely by how they've played lately. However, I'm not sure the yankees can make it with their pitching.

This again?

beatdeadhorse5.gif

Just suck it up and quit crying about us rooting for our team, because its seriously one of the lamest complaints I've ever heard in awhile. The cheerleading comes from all sides since err well...its a baseball forum correct?

This is like some stupid played out sand box war where one kid in a school yard tells the other to piss off then gets mad when the other kid nails him across the lip in retaliation.

Btw-be prepared for a boat load of gloating should I see the Braves fall to 20 games behind the Amazins. Its in my blood,I'm gonna rub it in like there's no tomorrow.:)

San Diego 66 64 .508 0.5
Philadelphia 65 64 .504 1.0
San Francisco 65 66 .496 2.0
Florida 63 66 .488 3.0

Sorry gaime, I concede the yankees aren't the best candidates, but I wouldn't say its the Twins either. I give that nod to Oakland and Tigers. I seriously love how theyre the league leaders and yet they're still underrated by half the people here.

It's not just here that they're underrated. But if the Twins do get Liriano back and he's healthy, well that is bad news for every other team in the playoffs.

But serious discussion for a sec guys, who do you give the WS to this year in the AL? I mean the Mets have it pretty much on lock for the NL, but the AL? A's? Oakland? White Sox? Tigers? Yanks? Boston? Twins? Shit, even the Rangers aren't out of contention yet.

I don't do WS stuff this early. I'm not even saying, nor have I said that the Mets will definitely make it.

I don't understand something this is the first time in 6 years Mets fans actually actually has something to cheer about. Mets-haters bitch, and downgrade our favortie team, while when the other teams like Braves or Yanks bloat we don't complain about it. But thats it I'm going to bloat because Mets are having great season, and the haters are getting pissed about it. No one is going to stop me.

What's the point?

From 2001-2005 the Mets have finished a combined 99 games behind the Braves (34.5 in 2003).

Just think, it would take another four seasons just like this one for the Mets just to catch up to that number. And I think we can all agree that's highly unlikely to happen.

Goddamn, damage controlling this season based on past events in prior seasons?
Man, it must hurt to be a Braves fan right now. :lol :lol :lol

Way too early to tell. All it takes is one team to get hot the last week of the season and carry it into the play-offs

Siamese-the point is I'm a fan and I'm gonna rub it in to my rivals, your team blows this season dude. :D

I no longer have to hear Larry Jones making ridiculous snide remarks about Met fans switching to Yankee pinstripes hoping that the Yanks take out the Braves in the post season.

You guys had a damn good run, but at this point its best to tip your cap without making excuses. I mean the run had to end sometime-its only fitting that the Mets and Tom Glavine are involved here.

In other news-its great to see the Mets put the hurtin' on the Phillies wild card hopes this morning. Ahh to spoil a rivals chances at the wild card, its nice for us to do some damage in this area for a change. Maybe Wright can finally start hitting homers again too-Colorado here we come.

As far as the Mets and a World Series goes-it'd be nice but I'm not saying a damn thing here. I mean odds are they probably will be there but to look that far ahead would be a diservice to the great season theyre having right now...one game at a time baby, enjoying every minute of it.

And ofcourse their great season means nothing once the playoffs start. I mean I still have 1988 ringing in my ears. Any team can come along and stop your momentum real fast, just like the Dodgers did to the Mets when we were heavy favorites.

Well if you asked me a week ortwo ago I'd have said the Tigers were easily the favorite, although they've lost a huge amount of steam lately. Heck, if they don't get their act together soon, they might not even make the playoffs if the Twins and White Sox keep on winning.

I was just going by who is playing well right now that's in the playoff race.

You know, if the Phillies make the playoffs, Howard is easily the MVP. Granted, the Phillies need to make the playoffs first, but once they fire Manuel, they'll win.

Yep. He doesn't have the luxury that Beltran does with hitting in a deep lineup either. He *is* the driving force behind the Phillies now,if they make the wildcard its because his bat did all the damage. He destroyed 3 balls at Shea this past week and now he's got what...46 homeruns? Thats just unreal.

MLB won't allow it. It'll kill the ratings (I'd be willing to bet it would be even LOWER than last years WS).

Now that Qwerty looks to be banned, the Mets fans as a whole won't seem quite as bad. Now if we could just lose the Metkee... I don't think you make a post every game the Mets win, full of obnoxious emoticons and then a huge, shitty looking screen grab from MLB.tv of some player on the Mets and then a :). So I don't think you are quite who I'm targeting.

I'm not the biggest baseball fan in here, but that doesn't mean it isn't annoying to me. And I guess I don't know what's worse, the gloating, or the "SUCK IT DOWN BRAVES WE'RE JUST ENJOYING OUR TEAM WINNING" posts that go on for about 4 paragraphs, like it somehow makes any insufferable behavior any better.

And that's all I'll say on the topic for the rest of the thread-- I just wanted to respond to you because you've been on GAF for-ever.

I understand you weren't referring to me specifically, I'm just saying all teams' fans are like that, including plenty of people in this thread.

It just feels like only the Mets fans get any flack for it.

The Marlins are the only NL team I fear. They're gonna be a FORCE in another year or so.

"Gonna" eh? I predict they make the Wild Card this year. They are too damn hot right now, and are riding into St. Louis with 8 straight wins, 2 games under .500 and 2 games for the WC. They still have something to prove.

BELIEVE!

Frankman is probably the worst poster on all of neo-gaf.

-Likes the mets.
-Likes anime.
-Likes John Cena and I think Randy Orton, too.

I bet he's a Republican, to boot.

There could very well be a reason I don't post in the thread much.

Can't wait to see you cheering on your Bronx Bombers!

Just because I don't post in the thread, doesn't mean that I don't or am somehow incapable of reading the thread. Not that your fairweather reputation doesn't precede you.

Well obviously you have poor reading comprehension or poor comprehension of everything in general. I'll leave it at that. I don't want to offend Lambtron the princess of the MLB thread.

Mets- PLUS
Japanese Anime- If you don't know by now, I'll give you

and a clue later.
Cena- Think he gets hated on TOO MUCH. He's not the wrestler he was on SD!
Orton- Nah, don't like bagcrappers.

I'm a Demo, and the fact this attack doesn't get this guy a warning or banned is priceless.
