I dunno man, that actually is pretty big news. Did you read the SI story? Holy shit.

Jeter comes off as a giant ****ing douchebag. Definitely a ton more trouble in the Yankees clubhouse than I ever would have guessed, and you know it's actually true because it's people like Torre, Giambi, and A-Rod confirming all that stuff happened.

edit: page 300 wooo

I'm getting sick of this piling on A-Rod. They can't talk about the "slump" anymore so they twist words and create stories of lockeroom conflict. The sports media is pretty pathetic...

holy crap im actually taking ARod's side on an issue but who the **** is Jason Giambi to be talking all this shit and telling ARod to "step up"? Unless im mistaken wasn't it Giambi who took the last couple of years off (while still collecting a huge paycheck) trying to learn how to play without roids? Then he rediscovers HGH and thinks he's the shit?

this quote is hilarious:
"[Mike] Mussina doesn't get hammered at all," he told SI. "He's making a boatload of money. Giambi's making [$20.4 million], which is fine and dandy, but it seems those guys get a pass. When people write [bad things] about me, I don't know if it's [because] I'm good-looking, I'm biracial, I make the most money, I play on the most popular team ..."

Yeah, Giambi really comes off sounding like a pompous asshole. If anyone deserves to be shit on, it's him.

I don't trust the context of those quotes at all. The writer is obviously reaching for conflict (why else would they print this when the slump is over and the Yankees are rolling?)

PS: They always says dude has meaningless stats but A-Rod with RISP this year = 184 AB .299 BA .429 OBP .500 SLG .929 OPS. I mean, what more do people want from this guy?

Um, what? All the actual players confirmed them. This is STRAIGHT from Torre after the article came up:

Torre acknowledged meeting with Rodriguez in Seattle in August and telling him to change his demeanor.

"The tone I took to Alex is basically being honest with himself. And what I meant by that was, he had a tough series in Boston ... and I like to watch body language, he was making it appear like it was OK," Torre said.

And when asked about Giambi's comments a few days ago ARod said "I'm sure we had a conversation."

Man I am such a bastard. I saw Twins play-off tickets were going on sale today, so I got through on their website and got tickets to all 3 potential home games.
Even if the White Sox don't make the play-offs, you're gonna make me some money, Minnesota.

are you on drugs or something wellington??? the twins never "killed" us during the regular season, the last series we played we beat them bloody.
i am THIS close to revoking your yankee council security committee status, you are either with us or the the national league fascists.
I will not have dissent in this unit, is that understood!?!? as far as that article is concerned, IT. DOES. NOT. EXIST. PERIOD. UNDERSTOOD SOLDIER!?? [staff sergeant barnes] now get back in your foxhole[/barnes]

What makes you think the Red Sox ever had any interest in him as an option for next season?

Papelbon is going to the rotation. Wickman is (was) the best FA closer available. The Red Sox like to throw a lot of money at guys.

Pretty simple really.

The Red Sox like to throw a lot of money at guys? They gave Renteria a bloated deal, but that was pretty much it for this ownership group. They've actually been developing a reputation as being pretty cheap when you consider the amount of resources they possess.

Besides, the current Theo Epstein philosophy for building a Major League pen is to pick up scrubs off of the trash heap and mix them in with rookies.

Poor Arod. Sometimes I wonder how things would be for him had he become a Met.
I like the guy,but the media are after him way too much.

Braves were smart to resign Wickman-they should have had him when they blew their twenty some saves earlier in the year. I have no doubt the Bravos will be back contending next season,a healthy Larry and grabbing a legit lead off man will have them in good shape again. I just wonder if theyre crazy enough to actually trade Andrew Jones though.

Don't question him, he played baseball at Auburn with Tim Hudson or something.

Really, the Yankees and Twins are the two best teams in baseball right now. Say what you want about the Twins not having Liriano or no starters outside of Santana, but we still have the top bullpen in the league and the 3rd best team era overall. Our pitchers have walked only 327 batters, the lowest in the league by far (Cleveland has the next-lowest total at 396 walks given up), and have struck out more players than any other teams in the league besides the Cubs and Angels. We also are tied with Toronto for the highest team batting average, are tied with Oakland, Seattle, and the White Sox for 3rd in team fielding percentage at .986, and our batters have struck out less than any other team in the league.

Mauer has the highest average in the league.

on June 7th, the Twins were 25-33. Since June 8th? 64-28 (and Morneau is batting .375 since June 8th, too, by the way). Liriano's only made two disappointing appearances since his last productive outing on July 28th, and the twins have been 30-19 since then, which, admittedly, isn't as good as they were during the period from June 8th to when they lost liriano after the 28th, but it's still a .612 winning percentage, which is very, very good.

Radke hasn't pitched since August 25th, and the twins are 14-9 without him.

So why have the twins remained successful?

#1: clutch hitting.

#2: Strong pitching. Santana's currently leading the majors in all three triple crown pitching categories, and Silva seems to have finally found his stride again. Garza, Baker, and Bonser are stepping up and delivering solid performances, and when they buckle, the Twins' bullpen is there to back them up.

It's funny how the twins are STILL regarded as underdogs to even advance past the 1st round when they're the hottest team in baseball in the last 4 months.

Yankees better hope Detroit gets the WC. This Twins team will give them trouble...
They'd better hope the Twins don't get home field, the Yankees don't wanna play in the ol' Garbage Bag Dome.

Oh, and I know there aren't many Twins fans here(Lambtron is the only one I know), but I have a set of play-off tickets for their home play-off games in the ALDS.

Before I put them on eBay and make a profit, I'll sell them to any Twins fans for face value + any shipping costs.
I'd rather a real fan have them before I make a profit, so the offer is open to anyone who might want them.

Sep 21 The Los Angeles Daily News' Doug Padilla is reporting the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim may make a serious run at acquiring 3B Alex Rodriguez from the New York Yankees if Rodriguez requests a trade or the Yankees decide to shop him around. If the deal goes through, the Yankees figure to ask for no less than SP Ervin Santana, RP Scot Shields, OF Chone Figgins and a high-level prospect.

Wut.

The Yankees have posted a recent better record. And no, I don't consider them an underdog.

****in Dodgers.. way to just twitter away the chance to take the lead in the West and lose the Wild Card advantage. BY LOSING TO THE PIRATES AND THE CUBS!! ARGH!

sooo apparently girardi is already fired and he's just finishing out the season?

for his sake i hope he doesnt get the cubs job.

And so the play-off fan rush begins.

And if Loria fires Girardi...****ing moron.

Not really :p I have been a fan long before that, but could not register with GAF with a free email account. I finally got a real provider. :)

I know that you are a White Sox fan and you were excited last year as they won the WS and now they won't make it to the playoffs this year. I know Mr Bob is a cubs fan and Matrix, Miguel, and mashing are houston fans, Joe and wellington are Yankees fans, Kuroyume is a mets fan, siamesedreamer is an Atlanta fan and Dr. Strangelove is a Red Sox fan.

I was reading this thread last year and this year as well. :)
