He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
I think this needed another thread since most people aren't looking in the other one anymore. :)

It's been more than 20 years since Nintendo's highly acclaimed franchise, Super Mario Bros., first hit store shelves. On May 7, eager fans from Mario's classic days must wait no longer to see the brothers return in an all-new platformer with the launch of New Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo DS.

On the heels of Valentine's Day romance is in the air, even in the Mushroom Kingdom. But Princess Peach wasn't able to celebrate with her special someone, seeing that she's been taken prisoner by Bowser and Bowser Jr. Only the Mario Bros. can rescue the princess from her evil captors as they battle familiar enemies like Goombas and Koopas along with new foes and big bosses.

New Super Mario Bros. is loaded with features and characters that could only exist in the Mushroom Kingdom, including all-new power-ups like the BlueShell, in which Mario can ride, and a massive Mushroom that makes him ultra-huge. The title features stunning 3-D models moving through lavish, cleverly designed 2-D worlds, culminating in a final showdown for the freedom of Princess Peach.

Yes I will be playing this at E3...when I'm not stuck in meetings. The only shitty thing is I'll no doubt be surrounded by Japanese playing on the superior DS Lite. That will really make me mad.

I'm pre-ordering two. My girlfriend needs a copy. :D DS got her into gaming.

I wish the Koopa Kids would come back. This game would be the perfect-reintro. Bowser Jr. sucks.

we all may as well mark this down as the DS lite US release date as well. seems silly to release it any other time.

interesting too, since the DSL may potentially not have an e3 showing pre-release

That would be awesome, though I feel the introduction of Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island broke the numbering thing...
 
If this is launched with the DS Lite, Nintendo is going to make a killing throughout the rest of the year. Can't wait!
 
It didn't really hit me until I saw the old title screens. Can't believe we are actually getting a new SMB. Every old Mario release was a huge event in my childhood and they took over my life for months on end. Can't friggin wait.

I just can't get as hyped for this game as I should be. There's something that keeps me thinking they will screw it up somehow (besides the artwork). Hopefully it will be good enough, and not the only Mario side-scroller we'll see for the next ten years or so.

I believe it was Super Mario World: Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan, actually.

They should call it SMB4 here in the US though. :)

New Super Mario Bros. is a horrible name. It actually bothers me for some reason. Heh.
 
To put things into perspective, the last time a proper Mario sidescroller was released, George Bush Sr. was the President of the United States, and Sonic the Hedgehog didn't even exist.

For those tallying, as of May 7, it will have been 15 years, 5 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days since the last Super Mario Bros. game.

About time.

i cant freaking wait for this. 2006 may be the best year ever. E3, DS, REV, new Zelda, new 2d Mario and if the REV makes 2006 hopefully Mario 128.

i think im in videogame haven. :D
