Thursday, Sep. 8
Oakland at New England, 9:00 p.m. - Raiders improved this offesason and NE fell back a bit but the Patriots are still a much better team overall.

Sunday, Sep. 11
Chicago at Washington, 1:00 p.m. - Probably a brutal game to watch offensively but the 'Skins defense is a complete unit and will have Orton running for his life.
Cincinnati at Cleveland, 1:00 p.m. - I think the Browns can win 5-6 games this year but the Bengals are a playoff quality team.
Denver at Miami, 1:00 p.m. - Plummer will probably throw some INT's but Miami has a long way to go.
Houston at Buffalo, 1:00 p.m. - As long as the leash on Losman is very tight the Bills defense will smoother the Texans.
New Orleans at Carolina, 1:00 p.m. - I feel for NO's tragedy but the Pathers are much better. I also think the Saints will be shell-shocked most of the season.
N.Y. Jets at Kansas City, 1:00 p.m. - Cheif's didn't improve enough on defense in the offseason and the Jets should have just enough to win.
Seattle at Jacksonville, 1:00 p.m. - Jags made big strides last year will the 'Hawks looked pitiful against the AFC.
Tampa Bay at Minnesota, 1:00 p.m. - Tampa's defense is getting old and they don't have the offensive firepower to match the Viks. Culpepper emerged as one of the top 3 QB's lst year without a healthy Moss.
Tennessee at Pittsburgh, 1:00 p.m. - The Titans have a good coach and a good organization but their purged roster and youth-movement can't handle the Steelers.
Arizona at N.Y. Giants, 4:15 p.m. - Tough game to pick. If Eli is fully healthy and can release the ball quickly the Giants should be able to score enough to win. The key will be the Cardinal's offense. If Kurt Warner has time and makes some big strikes against the Giants' secondary that will open up room for J.J. Arrington to run. I think the G-Men improved enough on offense and and defense in FA and the draft to take this game.
Dallas at San Diego, 4:15 p.m. - I'm surprised at how quickly the Cowboys bandwagon has been refilled. Still without Gates the Chargers the offense will be exposed, their WR's won't have enough impact.
Green Bay at Detroit, 4:15 p.m. - I don't think either team is going to the playoffs but I'll take a fading Packers team over a team that still hasn't reached its potential (and won't this year).
St. Louis at San Francisco, 4:15 p.m. - The Rams are still the team to beat in the NFC West. The 49ner's should be a little better this year but their offense can't match Martz's firepower.
Indianapolis at Baltimore, 8:30 p.m. - Boller hasn't improved much but Fassel can turn him into an acceptable game-manager. Heap is a good receiving TE and a necessary saftey valve for the Ravens offense. The Colts didn't look sharp in the preseason and the Raven's defense is one of the few teams that can hold down their scoring.

Monday, Sep. 12
Philadelphia at Atlanta, 9:00 p.m. - The Falcons are like the Eagels minus T.O. They have a pretty good scrambling QB without any real WR threats. The Falcons defense is probably better than Philly's now but they don't have an answer for T.O. and will lose a close game.

As a QB Mcnabb is on another level. There is no comparison between him and Vick. The Falcons defense might be good but their secondary still has issues, ours send 3 guys to the prowbowl. Overall philly has a much better defense.

And they kept Mcmullen? What the FUCK! He better be a goddam allstar on special teams. They kept Thornburg too?? This must be an extremely late april fools joke. Ritche was our best fullback by far in the preseason. Hugh Douglas is a great lockerroom presence. I know they want to continue to develop the young guys but you have to draw the line at some point. This is fucking rediculous. I cant believe they disrespected Hugh like that by keeping some of the garbage that they did and cutting him.

MAHE IS STILL ON THE ROSTER TOO!!!! CURSE YOU ANDY REID AND YOUR MORMON BIAS!!!!!

are you serious? listen, i dislike the eagles as much as the next guy, but mcnabb is about a million times better than vick as a QUARTERBACK. he has a strong, accurate arm and over the years he has become a master at reading the defense. mcnabb is pretty easily a top 5 Passing QB, while i wouldn't put vick in the top 15 as far as passing goes.

vick has never been able to figure out phillys defense. they knock the living shit out of him every game they play, and let me tell you something, i dont care how big and tough you are, when you are getting unloaded on every play you're going to start looking over your should and second guessing yourself. barring some kind of philly meltdown, they are going to win the opener pretty handily.

I think the comparison between Vick and McNabb is valid, just look at the stats. Obviously McNabb has the benefit of experience, having played 6 seasons in the league vs. Vick who's played 2 full seasons plus two partial seasons. Vick's never had a season where he completed more than 60% of his passes but until last year, neither did McNabb. Vick's career QB rating is 76.9. Spending last year with T.O. raised McNabb's career rating to 83.9 but the average for all of his previous seasons was 77.6. That's pretty damn close to me.

As for the defense, I say the Falcons are better because they are more front loaded at DE/Linebacker at the point of attack and have a good secondary (which will improve if DeAngelo Hall is healthy all year). The Eagels probably do have the better secondary but are not superior to the Falcons in the trenches, with less depth and more injury problems. If the Eagles are better defensively it's not by much.

Double Edit: Just joined the pick 'em league. tmdorsey, just calling it like I see it. :)

I agree that right now McNabb is a better QB than Vick, but Vick is progressing pretty nicely, and unlike McNabb I think Vick understands the value in actually running when needed to move the chains.

Philly's defense isn't much better. Going into this game our entire secondary will be completely healthy, something we didn't have llast season, with the return of Jason Webster at corner and Keion Carpenter at strong safety. Byron Scott is great at free safety. The only ? right now is DeAngelo Hall who still has alot to prove, IMO. I think we will be able to effectively double TO and minimize his impact. Remember in NFC championship game our defense kept the game close up till halftime.

Come on FMT. Pretty handily? Our our field? Not likely, unless we have some kind of meltdown. Once again, people are underestimating our defense particular our line and our new and improved linebacking core. If Philly's defense does manage to dominate our our offense, I believe our defense and special teams will be able to keep the close enough to allow our offense to get the W.

Besides if you can believe the 49ers are going to beat the Rams you can believe we are going to be the Eagles. ;)

EDIT: Great post KilledbyBill.

wait, there are idiots here that are picking TB over the Vikes, besides the TB fans? You people are hilarious. :lol :lol :lol

edit: games to watch

oakland vs. NE
philly vs. atlanta
vikes vs. bucs
ravens vs. colts

no other games matter

Wow, was the use of "idiots" necessary?

And you're saying that Vikes over Bucs is a SURE win, I'm assuming, with all of that confidence you're beaming with? I'd agree that Vikes over Bucs is most probable at this very moment given the Bucs' recent troubles, but to insinuate the Vikes are somehow invulnerable to a Bucs win is...well, no less idiotic. The Vikes have like 7 new starters on D, no more Moss (I'd make a case for the greatness of Troy Williamson, but he has yet to go up against the TB secondary, we'll see next Sunday), and you're down to the 3rd option RB (one injured, one suspended)? Birk is out? Most likely a win, yes. SURE? Hell no. Honestly, it seems like if the DLine can just generate pressure on Culpepper that the Vikes are going to be at a loss...

Mcnabb still runs when he needs to. Vick runs so often because hes not a very good QB. All you have to do is contain him on the ground and the falcons offense just shuts down. If you look at the numbers, they arent in the same league.

Remember in NFC championship game our defense kept the game close up till halftime.

Yes, our offense without TO. It could be argued that Greg Lewis is an upgrade over Pinkston and Brown an upgrade over Mitchel. Not to mention the fact that our offensive line is healthy and has looked dominant in the preseason when it comes to pass blocking.

i don't have any confidence that mike vick can actually read a defense. he does have a good arm, but it seems like he doesn't know how to properly go through is progressions. he has made improvements, but he is still considered a scrambling QB, while mcnabb has become very good in the pocket.

falcons D ain't bad and maybe "handily" is a little premature to say about the eagles falcons game. i just dont know who is going to defend T.O.

p.s. we will beat the eagles in week 2!

The falcons dont match up with philly. Just like we cant match up with the steelers. You can scheme for Vick and they are weak in the secondary. All we do is throw the ball. Goodluck on Monday. :)

Okay, I'm in. I didn't put anything down any of the extra tie breaker shit though. We're just concerned with the game winners group (max. 16pts) right?

Anyone notice how ESPN did this bait and switch where all the sudden you have to pay for a live draft now that everyone is signed up. Nice little scam they ran there.

Being the franchise-long Jag fan that I am, I have to pick the Jags.

Birk, we honestly don't need him. We have great depth with guards and tackles, besides say, two players, so I think we can find a decent replacement.

Yes, I wish we had Onterrio Smith. No, I do not care about Bennett being out. Moore is the real deal. He is. Tice is just being stupid about Bennett and Smith, Moore is the destined starter, and everyone in the management is in his camp.

Yes, I do admit your backfield is good, or at least Barber. Barber is the real deal. He should be pro bowl every year. But can he cover TW, a receiver that can stretch the field instantly, Burleson, a rising star, and Travis Taylor? No, he cannot. We spread the ball around too well. You can't do it.

And Rice, your pass rush. We have a great tackle tandem now that Rosenthal is back, and even worse for you, Kleinsasser, arguably the most hardnosed, most powerful FB/TE in the league will take out any defenders you throw at us.

And of course, you also have to worry about Pep running the ball. Our offense is just too spread out to cover now.

And your offense? Eh. Good runningback, a rising star receiver. It's unfortunate we now have the second best cornerback pair in the league. We also now have the scary force of Kevin Williams, arguably the best DT in the league, and Pat Williams, a run stuffer. Then add three speedy ends and some quick linebackers and you've got hell.

I agree that it looks bleak for the Bucs, valid points all around.

But Minnesota hasn't exactly been ripping the New Bucs a new butthole in the new millenium, you know? And there's certainly nothing as of Week 1 that would make a Bucs win against the Vikes a total shock...

If all yall do is throw the ball on Monday night, then yall will lose.

Oh come the fuck on.

Fred Gibson was cut by the Steelers, but Lee Mays is still on the roster. Noah fucking Herron, who was a seventh round pick at a position which the Steelers have a shitload of depth and played like hell in the preseason, was kept.

Gibson hasn't had a particularly good preseason, but at least he had potential. Lee Mays has been a horrible player for four years and is still kept on the team for no reason whatsoever.

bullcrap! the niners cut willie middlebrooks which means we gave the broncos engleberger with cheese for NOTHING! shit its not like we're stacked at CB anyways... hope nolan has a good plan with that, cause as it stands now we have a 7th round pick as our nickle back

Ah, Quentin Griffen was cut too. I can't understand keeping Ron Dayne over somebody who has proven that he can play, but Mike Shanahan has never been known for making wise personnel decisions anyway.

Just in time for Monday night

Fact from SportsCenter: Only 1 team in NFL history has ever won the Super Bowl after being winless in the preseason.

The Colts were 0-5 this year in the preseason.

So how many peoples local newspapers have the Panthers ranked as the #1 team in the nfl. :lol I wish I had the power to get these guys fired.

I wouldnt be surprised if it was less than the ones picking the panthers. Dont forget, carolina is not a playoff team. The guys picking them never give any reason for why they expect such a massive turnaround.
