I don't think he's overrated. When you can change an entire game plan, just by stepping onto the field, you are one of the better players in the league. Whenever he comes out of the hashmarks, it's like the entire defense skips a breath, because if he starts running and he breaks one the d looks like retards. He can make some great passes.

I'm talking about the defenders victory not TO's. The guy defending Jordan would be just as happy as D Hall for the reasons i mentioned. Your point is taken, but off topic...you're mad that people are giving Hall props for stopping TO.

DCX

TO still averaged about 15-16 yards per catch which is still par with usual production. I guess you could say he prevented any game changing plays but Madden was ridding his dick all night like he was doing something outstanding.

Whew, now im calm, though still mad about the game.

I Give the Falcons D MAD props. They looked fucking good today. Holding the Eagles to 10 points is good any day, even if McNabb is playing like garbage. That being said, Vick is still a fluke. He gets his balls ridden as much as farve, and it annoys the hell out of me as he does not deserve it.

Ill take the loss today, but i expect the Eagles back to normal form on sunday

Allow me to introduce you to my friend Julian...Julian tells me he has big plans for your friend Donovan sunday.

Eagles fans shouldnt be too worried. My only concerns were TO dropping alot of balls and the fact that nobody stepped up to be the go to guy on 3rd down. Maybe we should resign Freddie Mitchel. :) Mcnabb is not the type of QB that will make dumb mistakes like that often. Akers isnt the type of kicker that will go 1 for 3 every sunday. Our defense is still as dominating as ever, even without Trotter. If anything they looked better than last year, forcing so many turnovers. Everything that made the eagles great last year is still in place, the loss sucks but I wont lose sleep over it. Its not like the Falcons are the carolina panthers or something, they are a tough team. I dont think we have ever beat a halfway decent team in the opener under Reid.

Edit: and as for that hit on mcnabb early in the game. Last i checked spearing was still illegal.

You and the Panthers both have something in common. Both lost on the opening weekend. :lol

FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WAHHHHHHHHHH

enjoy last place.

Wait, are you a Redskins fan?

For my obligatory post after a loss so I won't be call a herb, congrats to the Falcons. Although after what transpired before and during the game, I hate you all. Why wasn't Hall ejecting for facemasking Trotter during the warmups? Why did it seem like TO wanted drop some balls? Just a few questions.

And for further answers, I guess we can assume that Atlanta got the defense that all the analysts suggested that the Vikings was supposed to get. Maybe they got lost in the mail and sent to the wrong address.

Vick was horrible tonight. No idea why he got the horsetrailer award. I would have given it to Kerney or Dunn.
I would have given it to Mathis for getting Trotter ejected. No way in hell we win if Trotter is in this game. Dunn wouldn't run for 100+ yards, that's for damn sure.

Again, without Vick, this team is garbage. You all overestimate how good this team really is. Where were they when he's been injured? This team is trash. The offense is built around him, and the defenses totally center on him. No, he's not a high rating QB. But he doesn't need to be. He controls the attention of a defense, and being the main ball-handler, can dictate the pace of a game. He doesn't need to post big numbers to achieve the all-important W. Keep hating on him. He'll post mediocre numbers and win. Just fucking win. At least Jim Mora gets it, which is something Reeves didn't. The Falcons are gonna win 12+ games again this season. I'm sure someone will chalk it up to a weak schedule or blah blah blah. But when you win and go to the playoffs, then who fucking cares? When Vick goes down, this team looks like last year's Niners.

You can't just swap in any old QB. Who are the weapons on this team? Peeless Price? The worst WR acquisition since Marty Booker? Jenkins? What's the running game with just Dunn? I love Dunn since his days of trampling my Canes (when I was still a Canes fan) at FSU, but he's not this effective without Vick. Duckett is clearly one of the worst backs picked in the last decade as well. They've got a stud in Crumpler, but he's getting doubled...clearly. Their defense is great, but the Fins has a better D and got nowhere in the last 5 years. Michael Vick is the heart and soul of this team, and it's difficult for stat-whores to accept that someone posting numbers like that could possibly be an MVP. Suck it down, losers. Ron Fucking Mexico owns you, your momma, and your goddamn auntie. Vick for prez. PEACE.

Give it a rest already. Damn, if MY team had made it to four straight NFC Championship games, I sure wouldn't harp on a loss TWO YEARS AGO. Get over it, we whipped your ass, and no amount of crying is going to change it.

What was up with the Falcons celebrating like they just won the superbowl. As if I needed more reason to hate Jim Mora. I was waiting for them to dunk the coach with gatoraid, the whole scene was pretty rediculous.

The Falcons defense played really well tonight but the refs for some reason (home feild advantage) werent enforcing the no contact rule. I hope to god we never get those idiots again. Kicking out our defensive MVP 30 minuets before the game was garbage. They got in TOs head but when your being interfered with half the game its understandable.

Dude, I'm a die-hard Eagles fan and you seriously need to stop. You're making the fanbase look like a bunch of whining pussies.

Donovan reverted back to 2003 form when half the city was calling for AJ Feely to start and he wasn't exactly helped by the Andy Reid's conservative and questionable play-calling (bruised QB has trouble throwing, might want to help him out by running the ball perhaps?). Plus the Eagles got like 5 illegal formation penalties which I mostly put on Reid for not prepping his team properly. One series in I believe the 3rd quarter said penalties drove them out of field goal range (although I guess Akers would have shanked that one too, lol amirite?). Aside from Roderick Hood blazing downfield to make tackles the special teams was garbage as well. Indoors on turf, Akers should be money from 65 yards out and Dexter Wynn needs to be booted from returning punts stat. The D was definitely encouraging as they kept our sorry offense in it. The only positive I drew from this is that this is hopefully the low point of the season and it can only get better from here (Hi Rattay).

Dont get me wrong the Eagles did enough to lose the game but you expect the rules to be enforced. There were at least 3 plays where TO was blatantly interfered with, there is no arguing that.

Maybe if the NFL didn't have part-time refs we could expect consistant play-calling. Somehow I doubt that would shut you up though.

You aren't the only team that got jobbed by poor officiating, get over yourself. 90% of the people in this thread would kill for their team to be as successful as yours, yet all you do is whine.

I do remember two plays that made me go "Hey!", but at that point I was more aggrivated by the team then the officials missing a not-so major call. And I understand you're riled up, but how could Trotter not be kicked? I saw the video in highlights twice real quick and at the least he grabbed the guy and looked like he was going to retaliate. I don't know if you listen to WIP, but I loved how they kept plugging the premiere of his radio show tomorrow "Unnecessary Roughness, a no-holds-barred look at the Eagles latest game with Jeremiah Trotter. Tuesdays at 7 PM." I wonder if he'll even show.

Seriously, Duce do you ever take a loss without the whole big production scene afterwards?

In terms of bitching about failed calls there was a sweep to the right that Westbrook turned in to big yards... and you can clearly see at the top of the screen that one of the Falcons defense is being ridden to ground during the play... uh sorry that's illegal too.

Face it refs miss calls on both sides... it has happened before and will continue to happen. A team's job is to win inspite of the refs, don't(as a team) put the decision of who wins the game in the hands of the ref and you'll be better off.

....it wasn't called, so it never happened....plus, i'm sorry, i don't care if it's a rule or not, but that was some bullshit having Reid calling a timeout before the snap. If the Eagles got a first down and scored after that i would have died...

That wasnt illegal, the Falcon was blocked into the ground then the Eagle fell on him. Talk about grasping at straws. Im talking about obvious penaltys. Like TO getting tackled before the ball gets there.

No more reaching than your continued whining about TO not getting his fair share.... and you'll have to excuse me... as the block was shown on TV it sure as hell doesn't look like Eagles player just happens to fall on him... I was under the impression riding down a defensive player from behind like that was an illegal block, however I definitely don't claim to have a deep knowledge of the NFL Rulebook.

F*ck it's one goddamn loss it's not the end of the world.

If anything you should be more concerned about something the commentators pointed out... when TO dropped a ball at one point Madden mentions you have to immediately get TO back in to the game by going right back to him.... wtf TO's a grown man why the hell does he have to be babysat so much? Other elite receivers just suck it up and keep moving...

Now its from behind? Didnt look that way.

To quote Jim Mora taking to Hall after the game.

"You fucking owned him!!!!"

I wouldnt have such a problem with it if it wasnt for the fact that at least 3 seperate times hall was 1 on 1 and hit TO before the ball got there. Even with that, Jim Mora is talking shit after giving up like 16 yards a catch and 100+ yards total. Plus Hall was the one that ripped Trotters helmet off and spiked it into the ground then somehow didnt get ejected. I just hate douchebag coaches and douchebag players.

It's kinda hard to ride someone to ground from the side or the front... the phrase riding to the ground generally is associated with it happening from the back.

You hate douchebag coaches and players? That's some funny shit... I'm curious how many articles you've read summarizing the game.... Hall's job was to prevent TO from getting in the end zone. You aren't going to shut TO down on your own, everybody knows that... just like you won't shut down most elite WR's but TO did not get in the end zone Hall prevent McNabb a few times from getting the ball to TO by jumping routes, sticking tight with TO when McNabb looked to throw, etc... I think the commentators actually mention that this was the first time that TO did not get in the end zone on a MNF game... or something to that effect.

THAT is what Hall is getting props for as noted by many of the writeups on the game...

Wrong or not I'm not sure how slamming a helmet to the ground pregame should = someone getting ejected.... then again the whole stepping on the Falcons logo shit and the fight to being with were dumb.

I love the NFL thread, but goddamn I really dread every Eagles game... you consistently bitch and whine about any and everything that does not go the Eagles way... there are other folks in these threads with much more legit reasons to bitch about officiating... but they generally take it in stride... you however... jesus man... it's almost f'n unbearable.

Now, don't get me wrong... I'm not saying that the refs haven't missed calls that would have helped the Eagles... we ALL know the refs miss calls... dood the amt of shit the refs missed last season with the Ravens made me want to pull my hair out.. between missed calls and obvious things that should have been turned over during review (lateral? Uh wtf that IS a lateral), it's enough to drive you crazy, but you cannot dwell on that shit.

Let me ask you this, would Belichick ever go berzerk on the feild after a regular season win? Would a CB with any ammount of class start talking shit to a player AFTER the game. The fact that the falcons handled their win like a bunch of scumbags just made the no calls more frustrating in retrospect. I was waiting for the confetti to start raining down.

WTF? There are a shitload of OTHER coaches in the league besides Belichick who WOULD go beserk.... and a CB talking shit about another player?

Give me a f'n break man CB's and WR's do that shit to each other DURING games let alone their own soundbites they give after games... this is football... all testosterone filled and shit... remember? Not saying I can definitely find one... but do you really want me to go looking for comments TO's has made about other teams, specific players etc after a game?

The Falcons were celebrating a win over a team that has in most respects OWNED them it should be no surprise that them viewing this as "getting over a hump" or "gaining legitimacy" had them celebrating like they just won the SB....

You're really taking this one too hard and you know at this point I'm done trying to point it out to you.

Ok you're losing respect points because TO is the most disrespectful player in the league, he talks shit and starts shit, i think it was pretty good of Hall to play his game and talk afterwards. This was a big game for both teams, if the Eagles would have won the game on a 40+ yard TD to TO i'm pretty fucking sure that TO would have done something to not only disrespect Hall but the Falcons fans and most likely the NFL , so get off your pity train and head your ass to San Fran and you better not LOSE to the 49ers... ( nothing against Niner fans)

Word.

Hall earned his right to talk a bit last night. And I don't see what is wrong with a team celebrating win. Regardless if it's the first game of the season or not.

LOL. Some of our teams (Niners) Aren't as fucking good as yours has been for the last 5+ years. Eagles have kicked all types of ass, and been to 4 consecutive NFC Ships, and they actually made it to the Ship last year. What were the niners last year? 2-14.

Come on dude, when a team that you kicked out of the NFC Championship beats you, and they hold back one of the top 5 recievers in the league to only 100 yards with NO tds (on the biggest stage in the regular season, MNF) then you can celebrate afterwards.

When you talk about Bill Belicheck like every other coach should be like him, I bet they do want to be like him. 4 superbowls in the last 5 years? Really? REALLY? Come fuckin on! When you aren't a proven superbowl team, you have a reason to cheer, especially when you beat the team that actually made it to the superbowl. If oakland beat New England, I bet they would've cheered.

P.S. When niners beat the eagles next week, I WILL CHEER. :lol

Folks, it'll be a long year in these NFL threads if the Eagles don't go 13-3 again.

I historically can't stand the Niners, but they have a bit of good will from me this year because of their recent struggles and the fact Dennis Erickson is gone in disgrace (never mind their shocking win this week and it's funny to see FMT bask in their glory when they overachieve -- as opposed to how it's not funny when they're actually a decent team).

That said, I'll join the folks who would like to see San Fran absolutely pound Philly next week.

i'm pretty confident we can beat the eagles. first off, our linebackers are probably the best in the NFL in my opinion. they are sure tacklers and very fast (which is good for our matchups with westbrook). i was worried about our secondary, but we had a pretty good game against a team with a better passing game than the eagles.

what worries me is how our offensive line will hold up against constant blitzing. we did a pretty nice job against the rams, but they don't send crazy ass blitzes like jim johnson does. i think rattay and our receivers can beat what i consider to be weak CB's for the eagles. the key is getting that 1 on 1 coverage and the time to throw the passes.

oh and duce, about the "no calls" against the falcons, that is bullcrap. like i said earlier we had our receivers CLEARY horse collared against the rams and got no flags. but guess what? we still won the game. you guys had a chance to win, and you blew it. and no pass interference happened on that last drive.

:lol :lol :lol there is no way you can think that the 9ers can beat the Eagles. They were impressive but Eagles D>>>>>>>>>>>Rams D. You guys will not get anything on us.

there is no way you can think that the 9ers can beat the Eagles. They were impressive but Eagles D>>>>>>>>>>>Rams D. You guys will not get anything on us.

what are you going to do to us that the rams didn't? are you going to hold barlow to 14 carries for 22 yards? are you going to have 40 minutes of possession time? are you going to throw for 350 yards? are you going to win the turnover battle? the rams did all of those things. laugh if you want but we can win.

it's dangerous to play games on paper, ask the rams

:lol :lol :lol Like i said The Eagles arnt the rams. The Eagles Have one of the best Defences in the league, as opposed to the rams who couldnt stop anyone. You jumped ahead in that game and never looked back until they were 3 points away from tying the game. That WILL not happen with the Eagles. We held the Falcons to 14 points without trotter, what do you think will happen when he plays on sunday motivated? Your Defence will not be enough to hold us back. MAYBE in the running game but we will exploit your DB's all day.

SANTA CLARA - Linebacker Jeff Ulbrich was holding back Monday when he spoke to the media and the subject turned to Terrell Owens.

"I wish I could tell you how I really felt," Ulbrich said.

Derek Smith, however, did not hesitate to let his feelings be known.

"I think when I first started here, he seemed like more of a team guy," Smith said, "but I think toward the end, he really kind of fell off the deep end, if you ask me. He was just kind of in it for himself."

Smith, a linebacker, and Owens were teammates for three seasons with 49ers. Owens rarely practiced the last 1½ seasons with the 49ers, citing a groin injury that Smith speculates was not bad enough to prevent Owens from practicing.

"I didn't like it," Smith said. "I don't like the fact that someone's in there playing dominoes with their friends while we're out there practicing. I didn't like the fact that he's in there sleeping on the rehab table while we're out there practicing, and then they just come out Friday because they think they're that good and they can come out and play."

t.o. will play the race card at some point this week :D

Your Defence will not be enough to hold us back. MAYBE in the running game but we will exploit your DB's al day.

the rams have a better passing offense than you do.

i'm not saying we're going to go up 28-9 on you, i'm saying you shouldn't underestimate us. i don't really give a crap what your defense did. you gave up 200+ rushing yards, and the game was one holding call away from being a blowout. i give the eagles credit for hanging around w/ the falcons, but they aren't some unstoppable team. we'll get our shots in and make a game of it. it will be tough in philly but like i said, i think we're going to take it

200 rushing yards without trotter and a 1000 yard back in warrick dunn. Not to mention Vick. Barlow will have nothing against us. Passing wont be that much better. Like i said the game lies in your D. I will give props and say they are pretty good, but not good enough. Yes the rams are a better passing team. But you did give up what 25 points? I dont see how you can even think about saying the 9ers will win even if your a fan.

oh, now the trotter excuse. you win and lose as a team, one man wasn't going to stop those runs.

you say barlow will have nothing against you... HE HAD NOTHING AGAINST THE RAMS! 14 rushes for 22 yards and a fumble! it's not going to get worse than that.

yeah we gave up 25 points. we gave up 25 points on 56 passes and with our defense on the field for 2/3rds of the game. given the circumstances, i'd say that's a hell of a job. remember our offensive line hasn't played together as a group for very long. we're still getting into rhythm and still developing a chemistry.

how can i not say the 49ers have a chance to win? you want me to say "hey fellas the 49ers are guaranteed losers on sunday!" that's not how i feel about it. or should i lie about my opinion on the game to appease the ESPN Power rankings and all the people who think we're going to lose? bullcrap, i feel like the niners are going to win every week. you'll see on sunday chum!

p.s. mcnabb may not play on sunday according to ESPN

im not saying that you have to bet against your team. but cmon against the eagles its clear that they dont have a big chance. Your talking the NFC champs against the 2-14 niners.

I think IceDragon may have given you too big of a beating in the madden League Old Friend :D

Edit : McNabb WILL play i guarantee that. Even if he didnt play Detmer would light you up again. :lol

i heard the same things from everyone and their mom about the rams game. i know the rams aren't the eagles, but the point stands: you still have to actually play the game.

we're not talking about the NFC champs vs. a 2-14 team. this is 2005, and we're talking about a team in first place against a team in last place.

First place in the NFC Worst is not somthing i would be too proud of :lol
Yes it is a new year but its not like the 9ers have improved very much. The Rat is gonna looked like a scared dog out there aginst the Eagles. And i forgot to mention TO will want to put a beating on his old team.

hmmm, lets see... first place in the NFC west or last place in the NFC east... not sure... which i would rather be in....

you act as if the NFC east is an awesome division :lol

and don't you worry about rat! he is ready to rock and roll buddy!

p.s. what makes you think we don't want to put a beating on T.O.? you know you can only burn so many bridges before it catches up with you. t.o. is definitely going to be a handful, but dont forget he pissed off a lot of players on our team, and we aren't going to forget either.

Id rather be in the NFC East because you know they wont be in last for long, which you cant say for the 9ers. And unless your putting your LB's on TO which seem to be the ones who want at them, they wont be too many shots at him. Im thinking your DB's are more scared of getting burned by TO then the other way around

you don't know what's going to happen, that's the great thing about the nfl. you can say things like "would, should, could" get out of last place, etc. but anything can happen.

we're not putting lb's on T.O., but what is he going to do? stay out of the middle all game long?

our DB's are no more scared about being burned by T.O. than they were by issac bruce or torry holt (who are both bigger deep threats with better hands than owens).

I dont know, if Mcnabb is hurting at all I think we will sit him for a week. We can handle the 9ers with Mcmahon at QB. The guy played 3 quaters on a broken leg, there is no telling how badly he is hurt till the results come back on wednsday.

We can handle the 9ers with Mcmahon at QB.

detmer is your backup as far as i know, and rest assured we are going to blitz the crap out of whoever your QB is. to be honest i would almost rather face mcnabb, he looked like crap last night after the hit (overthrowing people, underthrowing people, he just wasn't on target)

i think one advantage we'll have for the first few weeks of the season is that there aren't many 3-4 teams in the league, so maybe we can surprise some people.
