Comedic relief man. During the mid point of the season when you're itching to get the playoffs going you need a guy like that to totally make you realize how shit things COULD be if you didn't have other options. Then you laugh it off and thank the good lord Jesus that he's not your #1.

It appears as though Capitals' Russian superstar Alex Ovechkin has drawn a line in the sand with the NHL in terms of Olympic participation. ESPN.com is reporting that the reigning Hart Trophy winner plans on participating in the Olympic hockey competition at the 2014 Winter games in Sochi, Russia, stating that he will risk suspension to play for his country even if the NHL is not formally involved.

here is what I think.

If Canada wins olympics 2010, they will feel there is no need to have NHL players in 2014 and can claim they won the last olympics with NHL stars.

However if any other country wins it now in 2010, I feel that Canada wants their title back, and that would mean the 2014 campaign has the NHL stars as well. Canada doesnt want to end it with a fiasco.

That would be such bullshit, but the NHL does have a lovefest with Canada's national team. Just not with Canadian teams.

Yeah they do. Imagine canada crashing and burning next year. I am sure they want revenge.

Russia is btw, the only top nation that has not won the olympics with NHL stars.

Yep. Other teams go bankrupt in our conference (Phx lolz) and we gotta pay for their players vacations as we enjoy a nice post season stanley cup win ;)

Dallas' airport is really cool unless you didn't know about it ahead of time and wind up freaking out thinking you're making an emergency landing on a highway and the asshole pilot didn't tell anyone

I went to Cancun last week

Flights went
Toronto - Dallas
Dallas - Cancun

Dallas has a very nice airport!
That means you landed in Terminal D.

Which is the new terminal that pretty much hurts your eyes in newness..

Its such a humongus airport.. I think in total it has 150ish gates over like 4-5 terminals.

I've decided to renew NHL Center Ice, this time for the whole season. Here's hoping the Flyers don't ruin it for me.

Also, I hope Ovechkin gets suspended for that, just for the lulz.

have to wonder who gets the net for Team Canada this time around. I know Brodeur has done the job just fine the last couple of go's, but the argument for Luongo is as valid as can be.

I'd go with Luongo at this point, he's in the prime of his career and has everything to prove as far as olympics go.

Could definatley see Marty causing a big stink though if there stats are similar going into the tourney.

man I can't wait, Ovechkin putting away Canada last time around was tough to see, hopefully Canada fairs a better this time around

Do you even know Brodeur? What makes you think he would cause "a stink"? This is the guy how got shit on in 1998 because the coach told him it would hurt Roy's feelings if Marty started even one game and he sat on the bench like a trooper. Pat Quinn even tried to fuck him over in 2002 with the Curtis Joseph experiment and we saw how well that played out.

And big lulz at the suggestion that the Devils-Rangers-Islanders would ever be aligned into separate divisions in some proposed realignment. The NHL board of governors and Bettman would bend over backwards to appease Lamoriello/Vanderbeck and the Dolan family long before lifting a finger to help Ballisille.

yeah brodeur would be completely respectful of any decision made in this situation, i think. he's old as sin and has had his time in the sun. if luongo is chosen over him, even in a debatable contest, i can only see brodeur gracefully stepping aside.

open to debate. I know all about the '98 Olympics, but the situation was different. Brodeur has held the thrown as top dog since 2002, and there really wouldn't be any technical reason to take it away if his stats are on par with Luongo's going into it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about Brodeur putting Gretz into an armbar and declaring its time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, I'm talking a closed door meeting away from players and media to speak his mind.

maybe...This will be his swan song to the Olympics, you think he's going to take a seat on the bench with open arms? i dunno

So I entered a Fantasy League, with some of my buddies, and I got some good draft selections. My friend though has been nagging me for Semin (from Washington), because he wants to complete "the first line of the caps".

So he wants to trade:

Eric Staal + Phil Kessel ---FOR--- Anze Kopitar + Alexander Semin

I was wondering if this is a good trade. I think it is, but I just want to double check by having a second opinion on this.

Can't wait for next Monday! :D

EDIT: It scores like this:

Forwards/Defensemen - Stat || Category || Value
Goals (G) 2
Assists (A) 1.5
Plus/Minus (+/-) 0.5
Penalty Minutes (PIM) 1
Powerplay Points (PPP) 3
Shorthanded Points (SHP) 5
Game-Winning Goals (GWG) 2
Shots on Goal (SOG) 0.1
Faceoffs Won (FW) 0.1
Faceoffs Lost (FL) -0.1

Goaltenders - Stat || Category || Value
Games Started (GS) 0.5
Wins (W) 4
Losses (L) -1.5
Goals Against (GA) -1
Saves (SV) 0.25
Shutouts (SHO) 6

Yeah, that Phil Kessel trade is really bugging me. Since I don't know if he will go to the Leafs or some other team, and how his chemistry or attitude will be towards his new team.

DOUBLE EDIT:

either you've toned down your rhetoric or you consider him speaking his mind behind doors to the top brass "raising a big stink" :p

anyway of course he won't take this lying down. which is why he probably played his best during the camp and will likely have olympics on his mind this season during any point where he's tempted to phone a game home. but in the end i dont see him doing much more than a reasonable, tempered appeal if he equally deserves the spot but doesnt get it.

The liveblog has been great so far. More enjoyable than the entire preseason, most likely. The legal bickering is amazing! :lol

EDIT: Wow, Glendale wants the NHL bid because they believe that they are somehow going to keep their insanely long lease terms and that 50m isn't going to cut it. Judge grilling them now on how they'll feel when the NHL wants to relocate a year from now. :lol

Not bitter, just unsweetened
yeah, it's obvious the city of glendale is living in la-la land

"NHLs arms are so thick and burly, they'll protect us from that bobblehead canadian and his filthy monies!"

edit:

cmacsports: Glendale says Lease does not apply to the ice.... Huh ???? Lease is for dressing rooms and other stuff

:lol :lol :lol

What the fuck is this shit.

The Pittsburgh team is champion of something called the National Hockey League, which really should be called the International Hockey League since it's got teams in the U.S. and Canada.

After nearly moving to Kansas City or back to Canada because they too wanted a new arena, this past year the Pittsburgh hockey team hired enough Canadians and Russians to defeat Detroit's Canadians and Scandinavians in the cup finals that so many people missed on TV.

Balsillie and Bettman take the stand on Friday.

PHOENIX -- A faceoff is looming between the two primary figures in the Phoenix Coyotes bankruptcy case.

Canadian billionaire Jim Balsillie and NHL commissioner Gary Bettman are both expected to take the stand in court this week, according to an agenda filed in U.S. Bankruptcy court Wednesday.

The two men are each scheduled to appear for 40 minutes of questioning on Friday -- the second of two days Judge Redfield T. Baum has set aside this week to oversee an auction for the team.

I hear he signed for NO MONEY DOWN, 0% INTEREST, and the Oilers got a FREE PLASMA SCREEN TV.
(Edmontonians...will get it...)

I don't really care about his history, but another small forward that can't win faceoffs and can't PK is something the Oilers didn't need. If this is a sign and trade (e.g. trade Nilsson to free up salary to sign a Manny Maholtra type player), then it might work out okay.

Hillary Duff is hot.
