Not bad at all... Don't give up any players and the picks are worth it for a proven commodity. Very excited about where Burke is taking this team.

$27 million for 5 years seems like a lot.
He hasn't done much.

2006-07: 70GP, 11G, 19A, -12
2007-08: 82GP, 19G, 18A, -6
2008-09: 70GP, 36G, 24A, +23

One good season gets him $5M+ year?
Yikes. The Bruins were stacked last year... and Kessel ate up soft competition with a really good center (David Krejčí). I have a feeling he won't be able to match those numbers in Toronto.

Plus, he's always been known to have attitude problems.

1 step forward. 2 steps back Burkie!

I look at it as Kessel for a 1st rounder and 2nd rounder because he's a former first round pick so it offsets the other #1 pick.

In a couple of years his $5.25 per will look even better.

Heck, Blake, Kubina and McCabe pretty much made and make what he does:lol

I'm tanking for Kabanov!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, what above Kabonov Burke and Hall damn it. I still think the Leafs are going to suck this year, the last thing I want to see is the Bruins get a top 5 pick damn it.

Double-B has just put the Leafs on the map. I can hear the collective fear of Habs and Sens fans with their "no direction" teams. Man oh man I love this guy. He has a guy in sight and lands him. Two first round picks in two drafts that every hockey expert says are the shittiest drafts in years for a guy who's gonna score 50 goals in this league.

Yes, he's 21 years old and he's gonna score 50 goals for the Leafs in the near future. You biotches all know it. I love this deal! Double-B will now proceed to unload some of his abundance of D-men to get even more assets in return.

This team is now a speed demon, look how the Kessel trade being completed has picked up the team, they just stormed back to pot 3 goals on the Stanley Cup Champs. :lol :lol :lol :lol

A GREAT DAY LEAF NATION!!!!

Manics probably dressed his wife up as Brian Burke and threw her into bed after hearing of the trade...

EDIT: And there he is...

:lol :lol :lol

I hope Phil enjoys his time in Toronto, where the media is even more brutal than it is here. The first time he shys away from contact or doesn't dig for a puck, he's gonna hear about it. For his sake, I hope his skin is thicker than it seems.

Ultimately, I'm bummed that he's on his way out, but it was obvious that we were going to have to decide between Krejci and Kessel this off-season (and we made the right choice). I'll miss his goal scoring, but not much else.

And this trade just makes the Northeast even more interesting than it already was. Games against the Leafs are gonna be crazy.

We didn't even finish in the bottom five the last two years. What make you think we had any chance at finishing that low this season? These picks are not even going to be top 10.

I don't understand the big deal about Kessel. Louie fucking Eriksson had a better season than him last year.

But the Leafs are starved for forwards so it's good for them. On the other hand, draft picks are very valuable in the salary cap era.

Kessel is younger and put up similar numbers in 12 less games.

Plus, to be fair, Kessel had mono mid-last season and did not look like himself for a few weeks after returning. He could potentially have a couple of 50 goal seasons if he stays healthy, but he's gonna need a set-up man as brilliant as David Krejci to do it.

Bozak, Hanson, Kadri and Stalberg more than make up for any lost picks and the next 2 draft years are average at best.

Not to mention Gustavsson. He also got a few guys for nothing by signing college players. Double-B is a fucking genius.

Hey Alucard, I need your help.

I turned on my tv, but it must be broken or something... The Pens/Leafs game is on an it says the Leafs' AHL team is up 4-2. What's the real score?

So much for the Leafs looking like an AHL team tonight (actually we are pretty much playing an AHL team -- 4-2 Leafs? :lol :lol :lol )

Sorry, Marlies 4, Pens 2.

LoL.

:(

I know it's only the pre-season, but it's always nice to beat the Leafs. 4-2 right now. Go, Wilkes-Barre! Really, though, guys like Malkin and Kennedy should be able to crush these inexperienced dudes.

To be fair, Kessel played on arguably the best team in the league, while Eriksson played on one of the worst team in the West.
Yeah Kessel is a good young player, but I think 5 mil (+ the draft picks) is paying a little too much for what is mainly potential at this point.
But like I said, the Leafs need scoring so it might be worth it for them.

fake edit: it's 5.4? lol.

Kessel is good and all but...who on that team is going to be able to feed him the puck without fanning on it, turning it over, or putting it in their own net?

I thought Toronto was in a rebuild? They're giving up two consecutive Top 10 picks for Phil Kessel? Do they really think they're ready to compete that soon?

Leafs aren't going to finish in the bottom 10 of the league in the next 2 seasons. Keep dreaming Leaf haters. :lol

Why not? As much of a chance as say the Habs or any other teams that will battle for 7th or 8th...

Did the Leafs trade for 21 year old Phil Kessel or 51 year old Phil Kessel Sr? I'm lost, hfboards has me convinced Kessel has only a few seasons of subpar hockey left in him and that the Leafs just gave up their rebuild and future for him.

That place... only there are draft picks and prospects more valuable than actual proven NHL players. The second you become proven your stock drops to nothing at that forum. :lol

Yeah, let's put it into more perspective and call this trade:

Steen, Cereda and Reynolds for Kessel.

People think you can get a guy like Kessel for nothing? 5th overall pick coming off a 36 goal campaign and probably 10-15 years of great hockey in him.

i dunno, this whole rebuild thing seems half-assed. I would think that leafs thought about stockpiling some more 1st rounders before going all out.

Kessel is a good player, but I am not convinced that leafs are competitive right now. Could backfire.

Leafs have a solid D now, we'll be more competitive than people can imagine. I can't wait to see the reactions throughout the season.

"When is the Leafs bubble going to burst?"
"This team can't last, they're not for real"
"Seriously guys when are the Leafs gonna drop, this is pissing me off.."

:lol :lol

And hooray for a fun, meaningless preseason win.

He has credibility as long as people keep quoting him. They need to grow up. They just want to hate him, which is juvenile. And he's probably making money because of them.

Double-B just interviewed on Leafs TV and laid the smack down on all the doubters about why this deal makes sense. I could almost see the smirk on his face cause he knows the Leafs and Kessel will be shoving it to the Bruins for years. :lol Who the fuck trades their top goal scorer within the division?

Wilson also made a good point on Kessel. He scored 36 goals while averaging 16 min/game. Wilson's gonna try and play him more minutes on the Leafs. This guy is gonna be a legitimate 40-50 goal man for years.

I can't fucking wait!

Double-B walking on water at this point. :lol :lol :lol

And he played on a defensive team.
