Sportsnet has learned Marion Hossa has turned down a contract offer from the Red Wings that would have kept the all-star with the Red Wings for the next 10 years.



A source compared the length of the deal to the deals Johan Franzen and Henrik Zetterberg signed. It's believed the deal-breaker was the average salary which fell between $3.75 million and $4 million.

If his main reason for going with the wings was to win, why the fuck would he not resign. Not sure of a team much better that will pick him up. should be interesting to see where he goes.

Seems to be confirmed. Wow, ottawa REALLY didn't want to pay that bonus, terrible return. Sofar east canada teams are doing horrible in the offseason...just need burke to make a dumb move to complete the trifecta

Nobody is going to top Gainey, though :(

It is taking far too long for heatley to waive his notrade clause..

If he turns down the trade.. what a kick to the balls. Im going to have to invest in a cup to be a fan of this team.

Any move Burke does will most likely be better than anything JFJ did, we still have the lousy contracts/NTCs and we are still paying off bought out contracts (I believe) I just hope we get a decent dman and 1 or 2 (sedins?) forwards... Mind you I hope the leafs rough it a little for next year so it puts a bit of a spotlight on our developing players and maybe score one more high draft pick - splurge next year when kadri enters the league and schenn hopefully becomes an elite dman - next years FAs should be better too

Most of next year's promising potential UFA won't reach UFA status. It happens every year, most good pending UFA resign with their team before July 1st. If the Leafs want to make big signings, this is the year to do it. There are 5 good options for top-line forwards, and at least two good d-men. Also, we need to grab Craig Anderson as our backup/1b goalie.

Well, I can admit I was wrong. He didn't wait until 12:01am to waive his no trade just to be a dick. He waited until 12:01am to reject the trade... just to be a dick.

If any team gets Heatley; Ottawa should not get garbage like Penner instead and still have no cap room to sign an FA. Cogliano is cool, but thats about it.

True. Was a trade request REALLY necessary? Just becaue a coach wanted him to skate more and gave him a little less ice time because he didnt play good enough....

I see Hossa going to an Eastern Conference team, then making it to the finals to play Detroit, only to lose. Man would that be something or what.
