On The Spot is now online, but they haven't started their "feature presentation", apparently it will be starting shortly, they're currently playing muzak and displaying trivia questions.

This is living !

I picked up my Ps3 last night from a small Queensland EB. Looked to be about 20 or so people there picking up machines. Not sure how that compares with Wii60 since I bought those at a different store.

Got home and wow it's much bigger and much sexier than it looks in pics!
Registered on the PSN, kicked off some dloads then me and a bud ripped into some Motorstorm multi.. awesome game, awesome fun.. I can imagine it would be incredible with 12 players. Does anyone know if it supports voice comms?

Also, I couldn't seem to find where I can dload PSone games for the PSP, is it done through the store or some otherway. The included documentation is pretty sparse.

Pretty impressed overall with it.

Off to town to pick up a remote and a blu-ray movie :)

No PSP/PS1 games on the European/Australian stores yet.

Virgin has around 200 ppl queued up so far, and they are giving 100 free 42" HD TV's to first 100 people, and Resistance to 125 people....

first 100 ps3 buyers get free 42 inch HDTVs and free taxis home at virgin in london :o

That's amazing, did that info even get out, you're going to be happy queueing there.

HMV in Glasgow has a midnight launch, I saw a sign today as I was looking at the beautiful Virtua Fighter running on a big telly. That's in 15 minutes, I wonder if it's busy?

It's the first I heard about it, they've been keeping it under their hats. I guarantee it will get spun as "OMG Sony are so desperate they're giving out TVs" by somebody though.

Connected the PS3 with the composite cables and my screen tells me it's running at PAL50. No option in either Ridge Racer 7 nor Formula-1 to switch to 60Hz.
Thanks for the help. This really really sucks. :(

Do you know if NTSC-games runs at 60hz on PAL PS3's?

I can't believe that Sony missed this. Haven't they tested the console on the type of TV's that most people in Sonyland uses?

i have no idea... if it supports 480p/i then it works at 60, right? otherwise NTSC game wouldnt work at all.

They want people to buy HDTVs, why would they bother optimizing SD modes?

I work nights in a hotel and right below us there is a FNAC a shop specialized in cultural and electronic products. They opened tonight at 23h00 and only 10 people came and most of them didn t even buy a console from what clients told me.

there you go, nobody got it... nothing to see here anymore folks, move along, move along...

Damn I slept most of thursday, I got a lot of reading to do.

One thing I like about the sony launch is that you get a bag for your console, my 360 never got one :(

11.20pm: There are now about 60 people in line, but the crowd outside the line has dwindled somewhat to about 200. We just spoke to Bernie Brooks, CEO of Myer, who said that the PS3 had by far the most pre-orders of any next-generation console. Brooks quoted a pre-sale figure of close to A$2 million.

You know, on second thought that really isn't attractive since the PS3 retails for A$999. So using basic division the # of pre-orders in Australia is... close to 2,000. Just 2,000?!?!

yep... from his store... and thats preorders... is that good or bad? Seems to me thats a lot more than 50 ppl that showed up for official party, eh? And do the Aussies usually pre-order stuff?

I know that in my part of europe, there is apsolutly no culture of pre-order whatsoever...

What's next, comparing the altruistic merits of Folding @ Home to playing Alien Hominid? I mean, surely you have to see the difference between the two instances you cited.

who cares how many people are in line, you very very rarely get Europeans queueing like you do Americans and Japanese.

Anyway
My PS3 is out for delivery

COME ON BABY!!

So the PS1, PS2 never generated any lines in Europe?
i don't know, but i know that Wii and 360 generated only a few lines, people in Europe prefer to pre-order and then pick it up during the day.
i've owned (just about ) every console launched in the UK since the Atari, and only ver queued for a GC.

Well if that's how the market is there why the heck the stores in France, Spain and England were expecting several houndred people to be on line tonight?

FNAC in paris was waiting at least a good 300, 400 people with those line barriers...

I bet the people with signs were paid to do so, theres no other way someone would do that. :lol

Ps2 had lines and also fights in the uk, go figure.

The finnish launch party was pretty nice. Nothing spectacular, a few pyros and the same ps3 commercials we've seen millions of times.

One quite amusing tidbit: they made a nice resistance-corner in the area. I was eating next to the booth and suddenly one of the monitors went blank. After a few seconds, the next one also went blank. The Sony reps quickly started to fix them. Poor PS3's started to overheat, reminded me of the E3 overheatings. :/

no lines in europe because video games isnt such a hype here. late launches usually mean good supply and most who really care got their consoles importet alreay.

360 and Wii changed things a little trying to launch worldwide. the low supply didnt help the 360, the Wii it helped to get some hype, but right now there is neither supply nor demand for it.

PS3 luanch goes quite smoothly, which after all is a good thing. Better launch than PS2 IMO.

So what you are saying is that PS2 never generated lines in Europe (was launched 3 months after NA like PS3)?
