Got my PS3 through work on thursday. Only cost me about 520 euros, since I get a nice discount because Guerrilla Games is part of the Sony family
I don't have a HDTV so I connected it to a 22" monitor with a HDMI->DVI cable. Very very nice. A question though; The PS3 is outputting at 1080p, but my monitor has a res of 1680x1050. Does it crop some stuff out, or resizes it? Connecting my X360 to the monitor with a VGA cable I choose the 1280x1024 option which probably stretches the image causing it to be slightly blurry. Choosing the 1080 option causes a lot of the image to be cropped away horizontally. So what exactly is the PS3 doing to the image on my lcd which makes it look much crisper? And how do I get my X360 to look as nice (save for getting an actual 1080p hdtv)?
As far as the games are concerned, well I didn't buy any. Instead I tried out some demos.
* Blast Factor is pretty nice in a Geometry Wars kind of way, and it certainly is cheap enough. But I'll probably not purchase it.
* Resistance was very disappointing. I was not impressed with either its graphics or gameplay.
* Motorstorm was initally fun looking, but very unforgiving. After playing it a while I started crashing less often and had more fun with it. Still not sure I want to pay full price for it. Instead of 65 euros it'll only cost me 45 euros if I buy it through work though. I'll think about it after I borrow the full version from a coworker.
* F1 - liked the sense of speed; didn't look as nice as I hoped it to be. I generally prefer arcade racers though, so again, this isn't really for me despite watching F1 races.
Saw Virtua Fighter 5, Railfan and GT HD at work. Not a huge fighter fan, and certainly not a hardcore player, so VF5 isn't for me at full price.
Wanted to buy a BluRay movie, but nothing I really want is out yet in stores here. I so lament BD regioning, especially since not even Japan is in the same region as Europe any more (would've liked to purchase some BD anime). At least I hope to get that free Casino Royale BD soon.
