In second life you can't meet people in order to play playstation 3 games. You meet people and that's all.
well that's obviously not true.

you can meet people to play ps3 games on GAF. you can sure do it in Second Life as well.

some musings... i'm guessing that my ps3 would host my 'house' so when i'm online and i invite you over that you'd actually be joining my 'home' server right on my ps3.

that'd mean that any content i had in my house would not be part of the network, and would just be hosted from my ps3. sony wouldn't have a thing to worry about in that regard, and it's a smart way of keeping the costs of running such a thing down.

I think Microsoft's point has always been that you usually don't like to play games with strangers, you like to play them with your friends, thus the friends list...

So what you're basically saying is Home is a better way of finding people to hang out with and play games with. Okay, fine. Maybe it will be. However, in my experience, using the internet for over 10 years now, it's kind of hard to randomly meet people without drudging through 100 morons for every cool person. NOW, the kicker would be if they somehow make it easier to meet up with people that are somehow like you, and not just random. For example, an event of RPG fans, a screening of Final Fantasy trailer or something. Now that would be something interesting.

However, I do see the need for improved match making when we get into cases where there is some game where your friends don't have it, but you have it, and you want to play it in online or co-op mode. So instead of being randomly matched up with some guy who is in your "Zone", in "Home" you would walk up to someone (inevitably a female avatar if this is going to go in the same direction as MMORPGs have always gone in), say "Hey u r cute wanna play some games?", then go to town. Randomly meeting and chatting with people will get old very fast if they don't somehow make it compelling and interesting to keep coming back to this world and not, as you are saying, just use GAF or your friends or some local, more controllable means of match making.

There's a lot of stuff to think and talk about with this, so go journos, do your jobs!

yes, you can also do that on the streets but you must find someone who owns a ps3, who owns the game and wants to play the game. Then, you must turn on the playstation 3, wait in the game until the guy show up and the start a match.

You're missing the point here... They took key elements from stuff that works really well from packages that had good and bad, and put all the "good" together in a package which they refined... This is something nobody has done... Why hasn't Ninty or MS done this, guess they figure what they gave is good enough... not anymore...

See, companies, especially MS loves to talk about community, and thats what this is and does... This just (for those who like the XBL community stuff for example) to a whole new level of interaction... And Sony didn't just do just enough, they went way past expectations with it...

Sony got tired of being told to pick up the slack, and they finally do, and people still hound them... it's really ****ing sad... I'm not going to let my life revolved around this or anything, but it really is a cool concept... Sony's been talking about this stuff forever, since the whole jack into the matrix stuff with the PS2... Well, it seems now they have the hardware and (More importantly) the software to do such a thing...

If MS or especially Ninty did anything "remotely" close to this, those said fans would be pronouncing the death of Sony, celebrating rubbing their oiled down cocks together...

Sony is setting a new bar for online community, and this is something that should be appreciated, cause now MS has to do something to counter this, which in turn will make a better experience for the consumer...

The man speaks the truth. Read it.
All I have to say to this sweet sweet news is WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Home
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BigPlanet

i didn't say it wasn't harder :)

until sony get cross game invites in order and *standard* it's not going to be much better than the case you described anyway.

can i see what games someone has in home easily? no idea.

My guesses from post #205 about home and firmware:

Details on Firmware 1.6 to be released THIS Thursday
I WAS WRONG - NO FIRMWARE DETAILS :(

HOME (released in Fall)
3D Avatar Correct
Digital house to put stuff in Correct
Sharing of music and movies (streamed from your PS3) Correct
Ability to create personal game play videos of any game (new XMB functionality) NOPE
Achievements for games (required of all developers) Correct
FREE Correct!!!!!

Expectations met and substantially surpassed. My god, it looks awesome. The ****ing coolest part of this is the sharing of videos and music straight off your hard drive. That's something you will never be able to do on the other consoles (Rumored 120GB be damned). That's something you can't even do in second life.

LBP - Jetpacks = MIND BLOWN. My mouth just DROPPED. That was cool as hell. Neat/Cute/Charming characters. Create your own levels!?!?!! WOWOWOWOWOWOW!

Coming home to Motorstorm tonight. WOO! I love me some PS3.

This is totally beyond anything Nintendo could do with Animal Crossing because when it comes down to it: Animal Crossing will only be a game while Home will be part of the OS.

JAPAN is gonna eat this shit up

Sales Age is gonna get a whole lot more interesting come Fall if not now.

Is the first post going to be updated?

what actually happened? Is sony good now, should I care about them again?

Are there any hi-def PS3 compatible versions of the LBP and Home trailers? I started to transcode the wmv video, but it was sloooooooooooooooow. Not worth the effort to do myself.

As far as I can tell. Sony is good again... everyone is friends.

I'm just curious if there is anything new available on PSN today.

the bolded/italicised part is wrong. it's harder to do it, but it can absolutely be done. i've seen videos and heard music from peoples radios/tvs in second life in the brief time i spent playing it.

sony have done something great for people into this sort of thing... no question. i have no problem with it not being something completely new... no idea why so many people here have a problem with that fact.

if something is good idea it's a good idea. i'm glad that sixaxis has motion control. i'll be glad when the friends list on PSN is pervasive and i can do cross game invites et al.

i don't think it's stealing to take features that other people have made me expect. i'm glad for it. but why people are crediting sony with inventing this idea when they've just put a bit of a spin on it, made it look better and streamlined it (not inherantly a bad thing) that's what i don't get.

i don't get how it's part of the OS rather than a game either.

if someone made a game like this on the 360, you could do all the same stuff.

everyone having it because it's free, that's more the thing.

So err... most of the rumors from earlier in the week were true?
Wow :D

do you care about Home?

i mean, jeez, heaven forbid i give people excited about home something similar that they can check out for free right now.

.

Yes I love HOME. But I hate gaming on the PC. Always have so HOME is where it's at.

this Little Big Planet demonstration is absolutely ****ing amazing.

My thoughts exactly. WOW, just WOW. I didnt think I would like this game from what i read, but to watch it in motion. Hell yea.

Wow this conference was Sony's best since E3 2005.

Gamespot's streaming of the Keynote is done. A+++++++ stuff, would watch again. LBP is shithot, and I worship it as my new God.

The LBP Creation process looks awesome. Its just pulling up a menu and place items around the game world. I love the emphasis on physics based puzzles. If the community does take this game and rolls with it...its great playing through other user created levels :D

Good job Sony - this took serious balls and vision. THIS is what we should've been getting from Sony all along, but I won't begrudge them that things like this take time to do right.

Keep it up and bit by bit you'll be able to overwhelm the negativity thats so swallowed the PS3 whole, and deservedly so. Now there is reason to hope for great things in the future.

And hell, I wonder what Bill Gates is thinking right now:

"Guys, did we just get i-phoned? Again!?"

omfg!!! i wake up and all this news comes up!! wheres the littlebigworld trailer? home looks crazy!! exceeded my expectations>.>

Wow, LBP.... speechless....

I was watching the video with my wife, and she got very impressed with it, amazing stuff,
PS3 buy is now fully justified :D

PS HOME is nice, and can be grand when it gets momentum, but LBP - outstanding.

wow sony has been working with indy developers, something Microsoft is also pushing. Nintendo hopefully has something to counter this.

It must have been hard to sit on something like this. I thought from the stories that were leaked, we would have people looking like Miis with animal crossing type environments with achievement stickers. This definitely went above and beyond my expectation.

when was loco roco announce for the ps3?

I think a lot of people missed that achievement trophy, or they were just too excited to notice. Loco Roco would fit really well on the PS3 with sixaxis controls.

Little Big Planet looks awesome, but the game will probably sell poor like Viva Pinata and Loco Roco. HOME definitely looks great, but why do people screm out YEEEAHHH and stuff like that? It was a a good press conferance, but nothing more.

Haven't read the whole thread, but are you telling me that Home is just a microtransactions game? I was under the impression that you decorated your space with stuff you got from playing a game, not stuff you buy from the PS Store.
