Official PSP 1.50 exploit thread (proper loader has arrived)

I just had to swap out my launch day PSP for a brand new one at EB (using the store-bought warranty).

Disclaimer: I don't know if it was just coincidence that I'd started using the swap exploit or if the thing was already bad to begin with. However, these symptoms only occurred after I first started using the exploit.

The constants were: the swap exploit, a homebrew emulator, and a bad ROM or emulator bug (I recall hitting X instead of circle with no ROM loaded, for instance, which made the system freeze).

Variables included: using the HOME button, Sleep mode, or fully powering the system off, either while in an emulated game or in the emulator interface. Yes, this is all "normal", but I'd wager that Sleep and/or HOME were the culprits here. Anyway...

I was getting intermittent lockups/freezes in the normal PSP system interface. Many times I would boot up and be greeted with having to redo all my system settings. When trying to change the settings (like the PSP's name/ID), the system would usually lock up again. One time, the X button wouldn't work/register at all. When playing Metal Gear Ac!d, the system locked up when I tried to load a save.

And most importantly, several times I was faced with the PSP's pseudo-blue screen of death (in multiple languages even), asking me to push circle to reset the system back to its default settings. Harmless and official, right?

The last time I did that was the last time, as that PSP never turned back on again. Got the green power light, and that's it. Thank god for EB's replacement plan, otherwise I would've had a shiny $250+tax brick.

As of this writing, I haven't yet tried the swapless exploit on my new system. I'm going to, but wanted to check and see if anyone's faced similar issues, particularly Sony's version of the BSOD.

No ROMS folder needed, just put them in the same directory as the eboot.pbp. You cannot have any .zip or .BIN files for PSP Genesis so far. All your roms have to have *.smd

Thanks, Speed Razor and Defensor.

Lame psphacker.com needs to link to author's homepage and not just provide download for the files. -.-

Anyway got Dracula X to work with PCE emulator. You have to:
1) create a folder
2) put all the mp3 and iso files in there, renamed to 01.mp3, 02.iso etc
3) grab a TOC file (create one or download it from the net) and put it in the folder
4) in system menu (default is press L trigger), change "cd change" to the toc file
5) card change and load up the cdrom system file

Then off you go.

I'm having some sound issue with Dracula X right now. I'm not sure if it's the mp3 files or the emulator. Otherwise works pretty nice.

How do I create the TOC? Is it just a .cue?

Can anybody tell me if the Sega Master System emulator is any good? I'm craving some Shinobi and Black Belt right now.
the menu is kinda glitchy and there is no fullscreen option IIRC but it runs the games very well

I am not sure what you are exactly asking. When I would add roms to the roms folder, turn off USB mode, and restart NesterJ it would pick up all the changes that I did manually.

The only thing I can say is make sure you are using version 1.04 as it does say it fixes some file menu bugs. Also to let anybody know, that same 1.04 version allows you to place pretty much an unlimited amount of files in one folder without the emu crashing. No more putting roms into seperate folders to stop it from crashing anymore. (which happened in 1.01 and 1.02 all the time.)
That was it. Thanks!

Mother shitter hell cunt damn bastard!

1.51. I upgraded on a whim probably the first day the download was available. I was just having fun connecting to my wireless network for some reason. Now my 1GB stick will have to be filled with movies. :(

If this turns out like the Dreamcast thing, where my DC seemed to be the only one in the world that wouldn't accept any burnt cd (either the ones before they knew how to get around the firmware upgrade or after) and all of my friends get to play emus but me, I'm going to be one sad panda.

Yeah, Chrono Trigger is with full sound. Same with DWVI. Don't know about GBA for PSP, I heard there was some alpha for it out, but I'm not sure about the status.

DBWTT...I'm going to ask you a serious question so please be honest with me.... And this goes for all of you Chrono Trigger fans as well...

How much do you love Chrono Trigger? I mean, do you only kinda like it? Or are you a serious CT lunatic like myself? If you consider yourself a true hardcore Chrono Trigger fan, why would you play it something like a PSP, where the screen is so damn small?

Let me tell you guys how I feel about this game. I first bought it back in 1995 when I was 22 years old. I loved it and played it to death on my 21 inch TV. Now this is going to sound crazy, but during that year I played Chrono Triger over 12 times. It was nothing short of an orgasmic experience and changed the way I look at RPGs. The thing is, I haven't touched or seen the game in 10 YEARS!!!

Why? Because the game is so good, it's so ridiculously off tha hook, it's such a masterpiece, that I vowed not to play it until I can afford to buy the best, most top of the line home theater projector, and then play CT on a 100" front projection screen with full surround sound and in a nice comfortable leather chair! THAT is how I plan of revisiting this classic game! I do not want to tarnish the experience by playing it on anything less than a huge 100" projection screen. So you just know that I wouldn't dream of playing this game on a measly 4" screen.

So my question is, are there any other hardcore fans of this game that refuse to play it on anything less than a 100" projection screen? The game moves me in such an emotional way, that playing on the PSP would literally be sacrilege to me.

It's the greatest videogame ever crafted on this planet and deserves to be played as such!

I think I'll do what some of you suggested, and eBay my PSP. Hell, it's even got the sampler and the Spidey 2 UMD, untouched. I should be able to get over $200 for it, no?

Definately, and if you want to sell it even quicker make sure your deal is availble to Canadians, wherethe price would be around $247, which quite the deal compared to it's original retail value here.

I just configured my DVD playing software to take snap shots of some of my DVDs when I paused the scenes I was viewing. I set the shots to 296x170 mode but for some reason it didn't want to stay at 300x170. Anyways its pretty nice-I've got tons of shots from my Angel and Blade DVDs to upload to the PSP.:)

Thank you, I will certainly be sure to include Canada in my auction options.

take out this line now :P

I'm having trouble booting Dracula X. I did exactly as was said but there's no file to boot from. Am I supposed to zip it all up or something? I have all the mp3 and iso files in a folder named correctly and the toc file in the same folder with them called Draculax.toc. But when I look in the folder, it doesn't see anything. What am I supposed to boot from?

You are missing the Super CD-ROM system.

it does not work on when you start. first select a ROM and then go to the menu. go to cd change and select the toc then go to card change and then you'll see the toc there

btw. can anybody help me to get Therons Quest running in PCE emu, I have the toc but it just hangs up. arent wav files suported by the emu?

DO NOT PUT YOUR PSP IN SLEEP MODE WHILE RUNNING HOMEBREW

We've heard some rumors, but now I can confirm that you do not want to put your PSP in sleep mode while playing homebrew games. Eventually you will corrupt your memory stick.

I was going in and out of sleep mode fine while playing some Donkey Kong 94. But one time when I went to load my save state my memory card just sat there blinking for 5 minutes. Eventually I just hit the home button and my memory card was now corrupt. A simple format fixed everything, but I lost all my progress in DK94. :(

this happened to me, but i couldnt format. what did it say when you tried to access your memory card after it was corrupt? because mine doesnt even read :( when i go to format it on pc or psp it says insert memory stick

Thanks! Ok I got the DraculaX working with sound. I'm quite impressed, the MP3 playback is a little choppy, but it's a great start!

Actually, the mp3 playback is almost perfect. You just have to convert them to mono. The emulator has issues with stereo right now, but in mono, they play almost perfectly.

Please help, I have Therons Quest for CD.

It is two .iso files, a bunch of .wav files and a .cue file.

I tried to rename the .cue to .toc and then run that on the PSP, but it hangs (probably the WAVs are too big?).

What do I have to do to get this running.

Ok, I posted very detailed instructions on how to get CD games working on the emu, but in fair of violating ToS I edited it off. It seems that the site I emailed the info to is slow and there are still some people on the board confused about the settings required. I won't be posting the detailed instructions until a mod (BuddyC?) gives the greenlight.

Linking to pirate download sites, directions on how to get pirated software to work, reviews or impressions of pirated software will all result in the banning of the user in question.

This is the ToS in question, and I would like to note that my instructions were clearly listed on how to get it working if you owned the SuperCD games and the PC Engine Super CDROM card itself. But still as it stands it's a grey area and I'll rather be safe than sorry. ^^;

The PSP saw the memory stick just fine, but read "0MB free." Reformatting worked fine.

You might be able to use something like fdisk to fix the memory stick. Although if you can't even get a PC reader to at least acknowledge the precense of the card, then it may very well be toast.

I go away for a few days and now it seems there is no need for swapping sticks. Link to the post that talks about that? It is hard to thread through ALL of this.

As I read the TOS, there's nothing implicitly wrong with posting those directions as the .isos, or whatever they are, can be easily produced if you own the actual software, and therefore, it's not solely "pirated material" we're talking about. That clause more applies to obviously pirated materials, such as "HEY I JUST DOWNLOADED THIS GAME HOW DO I GET IT TO RUN" or "HOW DO I RUN THE DOOM 3 ALPHA?!"

So you've got my okay to post 'em, yea.

The graphics of the PCE version are perhaps slightly worse, as is some of the music, but the PCE version of the game is much more robust and fun. A 2nd playable character, better branching paths, and most stupendous music. (SNES game's music was also fantastic, imho. Much lower quality, obvious, but it still made the SNES sweat, and I actually prefered some of the SNES song adaptations to their PCE counterparts... more variety and a more classic Castlevania sound.)

I think both are worth owning, but the PCE game is WITHOUT a doubt the better Dracula X, IMHO.
