I just had to swap out my launch day PSP for a brand new one at EB (using the store-bought warranty).
Disclaimer: I don't know if it was just coincidence that I'd started using the swap exploit or if the thing was already bad to begin with. However, these symptoms only occurred after I first started using the exploit.
The constants were: the swap exploit, a homebrew emulator, and a bad ROM or emulator bug (I recall hitting X instead of circle with no ROM loaded, for instance, which made the system freeze).
Variables included: using the HOME button, Sleep mode, or fully powering the system off, either while in an emulated game or in the emulator interface. Yes, this is all "normal", but I'd wager that Sleep and/or HOME were the culprits here. Anyway...
I was getting intermittent lockups/freezes in the normal PSP system interface. Many times I would boot up and be greeted with having to redo all my system settings. When trying to change the settings (like the PSP's name/ID), the system would usually lock up again. One time, the X button wouldn't work/register at all. When playing Metal Gear Ac!d, the system locked up when I tried to load a save.
And most importantly, several times I was faced with the PSP's pseudo-blue screen of death (in multiple languages even), asking me to push circle to reset the system back to its default settings. Harmless and official, right?
The last time I did that was the last time, as that PSP never turned back on again. Got the green power light, and that's it. Thank god for EB's replacement plan, otherwise I would've had a shiny $250+tax brick.
As of this writing, I haven't yet tried the swapless exploit on my new system. I'm going to, but wanted to check and see if anyone's faced similar issues, particularly Sony's version of the BSOD.
