Wow! I just watched the first episode and I am very impressed. Everything about this anime just kicks ass. Great animation, art style, music, sound effects, action, humor, and characters. Amazing.

Episode 3 was a TEASE. DAMN TEASE. God damn, that pissed me off. But in a good way. Now I can't wait for episode 4! :)

Hell yeah ep 3 kicked all kinds of ass!! I can't wait to see the raw tomorrow. Mugen is a freakin crazy man.

Anyone getting glitches during playback during ep 2 and 3?
What codec do U need to stop the smearing effect? if there is a way to stop it.

Damn the AF-F Champloo ep 3 sub was CRASHING my media player. Dammit I've never had that happen before.

But episode 3 was goood.

I'm using
VLC and had no problems with 3...

However, the sound would drop occasionally from 1 and 2... not sure what the deal is with that.

I was having trouble with eps 2 so I checked the codecs and sure enough I was using an old version of ffdshow. Installed the newer version (which was actually 5 months old) and it was fine.

For watching media (especially divx stuff) if I ever have a problem I just check the filter properties (usually an option in the player somewhere) and use google to find and d/l the newest versions of all the codecs. Fixes the glitches 9 times out of 10... it's actually pretty rare any established group will release a badly encoded or corrupted file, and when they do they notice right away and reseed a fixed one.

I've only seen the first episode because I moved and dont have my computer up or have dsl. But anyway, how's the series been after that kick ass first episode? Animation change at all? And basically how has your opinions changed with the 2nd and 3rd episode? Thanks. Cant wait to watch em all when I get this cable up

2nd episode sucked, 3rd is good. the episodes have become less action oriented, but thats expected, they are fleshing out the characters and the world little by little. animation quality hasnt changed, but there arent too many fight sequences to show it off so far.

The second episode was eh. Not really bad, but not too much happened and there wasn't anything particularly awesome. It was kind of like catching your breath after the awesomeness of the first one.

Episode 3, however, totally kicks ass. And episode 4 is guaranteed to be awesome (episode 3 is a two parter :)).

I've had playback problems with both 2 and 3. Screen was all garbled and unwatchable... I always end up taking it and re-eoncoding the file myself because for whatever reason, virtual dub reads fucked up files fine for me.

If I see ANYONE mentioning where you get episodes of licensed anime, like Champloo. that isn't a legitimate DVD from here on out, it's a two-day ban. Same rules as before the forum switch.

Edit: And DO NOT ask for PMs, or I'll ban you as well.

are we allowed to talk about champloo? like say, "x scene was awesome"?

what about talking about sub groups but not pointing people in their direction? Like I know a lot of people like to know which group is doing the best job?

not trying to cause trouble... I just wanna make sure I perfectly understand all the rules so I feel I can safely talk about champloo...

Talk about show = fine.
Talk about bootleg groups subbing licensed anime = no.
Any hints, textual clues, or allusions to where you can get it = no.

So, Posts on content of show = fine, posts on the work of the bootleggers, where to get it and things that entail that = bad.

dammit. ::edits all posts::

by bootleggers do you mean fansub groups? there's a difference. Though I guess we can't do that either since you can google group names and get champloo.. but then again you can google this topic's title and get to all the torrents. :P

(btw is mentioning google prohibited too? )

Any group that continues subbing a series after it's been licensed is a bootlegger. They have no right to be called a fansubber.

If you tell someone in ANY form how to get it, I will ban you. That includes telling them to go to google and finding it, Tthat includes asking for PMs, that includes textual hints, that includes "You know the site" or any of that inane bullshit.

avoiding divine judgement of shouta, thats the only way I can tell what anime is actually good.

So much is put out that the ratio produces a dangerous 'pedo/gross/generally bad' effect that inhabits maybe 85% of anime.

fansubs are all I have to judge whats worth my money. I buy what I like, if I didnt like your show I wont buy it, and you can rest easy knowing it wont be taking permenant residence on my hard drive either.

Nothing wrong with "legitimate" fansubs (i.e. subs of ones that aren't licensed here).

you really think there's a legal difference? Especially since this is an international forum? That's like saying it's ok to talk about roms that never came out in the US.

I don't mind your rule, but I don't think it's fair to label one group fansubbers and another bootleggers.

if you really think both are wrong then why say one group has no right to call themselves fansubbers and the other is just fine? Both are violating copyrights held by the creators. The only time I see a significant difference is between groups that do tv broadcasts and dvdrips.

First off, the reason why I put legitimate in quotes is because most people equate legitimacy with the consumer market. However, this isn't always the case. I could've easily not put legitimate in quotation marks and still have been correct. It lays in the context of legitimacy.

With that said, there are several differences between legitimate fansubbers and bootleggers and that lay within the general ethics that fansubbers have created for themselves. Fansubs have always been a means of getting shows that people wouldn't normally get the chance to see to fans. However, to go along with that purpose, fansubs also have existed to bring awareness of a series and possibly garner enough attention so that it may be brought over to the domestic market. When that series is licensed, a true fansubber will stop because our job is done. As soon as you continue subtitling something that has been licensed you step across the line of being a fansubber into a bootlegger. Fansubbers exist as an entity to further the two purposes I said above and going past that doesn't allow you the right to call yourself a fansubber just like how a person doesn't have the right to call themselves a soldier or a police officer just because they can fire a gun. Just because you subtitle a series and you're a fan does not mean you're a fansubber.

There's a whole slew of things I could go over but I think I've given the gist of it.

Edit: bootlegger is the term I use in this context oppose fansubbers. There probably is more apt terms but that's the word fansubbers have been using for as long as I have been one (5-6 years now).

ah, so the motivation is the difference, and among their peers they are judged. I understand that point of view then... never really knew there was a creedo among fansubbers that what they do is for the purpose of getting something licensed.

Has anyone determined if fansubbing has an affect on US companies licensing decisions?

My only point was that both are illegal distribution of content.

Well, the purpose of getting a series licensed has become more and more muddled in the last 3-4 years. This is largely to the large flux of digital subbers that have come on the scene and have replaced traditional fansubbers. There's a whole thing I can write on this but I'll save it for another time unless someone wants to know.

As for fansubbing affecting licensing interests, it was more prominent in the past. Now, most Anime companies in the R1 market are just gobbling up everything. However, if you want an example of fan favorite being licensed due to popularity within the community, series like Flame of Recca and Hana Yori Dango are more prominent examples in the two respective paradigms of anime. Kodomo no Omocho (Child's Toy) is another very big one.

I have worked with a few different traditional groups like 3NA. I run my own digisub group now called Infinite-Zero.

Was it Cartoon Network that picked up Champloo? Whoever did, any idea when they're gonna start broadcasting / putting out DVD's?

Also, anyone know how long the series run is?

I think Geneon has it. When will se start seeing it on DVD? we still don't know.

I think any loser who becomes a mod suddenly tries to act cool or something..its ridiculous. There's like no mod who can just act normal..other than Huzza, at least he doesn't act fake.

Haven't seen ep3 yet, but I guess people are saying its good.

You're a pretty big idiot junior member to think I just became a mod. I've been an admin for a year to a year and a half around here.

I use animesuki now for my anime needs as I did at times before, but anime.mircx used to update MUCH faster with torrent and whatnot and now their site has been down for quite some time. Does anyone know what happened to them? Did they move sites? Not trying to find Champloo -- that's easy enough on my own -- but I did rely on anime.mircx for those very fast updates and links not only with anime but with videogame and anime music as well. It was just a good all around site. I didn't get the feeling they were having problems or anything staying online. Did they move or anything?

I don't know what's up with mircx but they did get attacked and was taken down awhile ago. I only assume the site has been affected too.

anime.mircx got closed down by ADV because they have licensed material in their site. The guy that runs it is supposed to take off the licensed material requested by ADV and he's supposed to be back after, but now, I don't know what happened.

mircx the irc server has been down for a while methinks. But I haven't connected to mircx since the "jump".

Well, there you go guys. Don't want to mess with the companies. The scary part is that I know several people that work at ADV -_-.

That's ass. What licensed ADV stuff were they hosting?
