Well, here it is, the lead-in to the final Star Wars film. It's in stores now, and I have my copy sitting in front of me. Unfortunately, I can't play it tonight due to my TV busting on me, so I'll just start the thread.

Impressions tomorrow, as soon as the TV gets fixed!!

try it online (XB) and then let all the other print and online outlets who've already reviewed it know how it is...because none of them waited for the online component to actually work before reviewing it.

My Gamestop called me to let me know that they drove down to the UPS building so they could have their copies today. Unfortunately, I had to work until 9 at night, so I can't get mine until tomorrow morning. Just as well. Tekken 5 awaits. :)

Seriously though, really looking forward to this one. Had it on reserve since I played the OXM demo.

man, I just played the demo

it was some fun stuff! Finally there's ONE fps that is influenced by Metroids emmersive visor FX

The scripting is really fun, and those little droids that drill into your helmet are awesome :lol

It ran great on my PC, but I'd rather pick it up for Xbox and play it on the couch / Live .. any idea how it runs??
Impressions please

Uh, I don't remember little driods that drill into your helmet in the PC demo...the only enemies were Tandosians.

/\ /\ /\

There's these little hovering spotlight droids, if they get a hold of you they'll clamp to your head and start drilling into your helmet.

Just finished the first mission (Geonosis) and it takes nearly 2 hours to get through, but the ending is FUCKING AWESOME.

The second mission takes place a year later on a Republic Assault Ship (Star Destroyer). Since it has a Kashyyyk mission, it looks like the game covers the entire Clone Wars from beginning to end however,

Major Episode III Spoiler
I do not know yet if the game has the Clonetroopers executing Order 66 and killing their Jedi generals. If it happens, it probably doesn't until the very end. It'd be cool if it did though!

Wow, this game is actually really f*cking good!

I'm so glad that someone else took cues from Halo and adopted so many of its wonderful design choices while still applying it to something unique. Not only is this game extremely enjoyable to play, it's also amazingly polished (at least on the PC). The loading is lightning quick (3-4 seconds per level, max), the framerate is perfect, and everything animates beautifully.

And the hit detection is perfect.

Holy shit!!! This game fucking rocks!!

For those who don't know, originally the game was supposed to be only one level, that of Geonosis and it was to focus on one full day of the war. When George Lucas got his hands on the design documents, he suggested expanding it.

The graphics are beautiful. The sound is phenomenal. I don't have any surround sound system or anything like that, but it still immerses you in the environment. I like how you can assign commandos to perform tasks and then cover them with the secure area option.

Controls just like Halo, so you already know what to expect in that regard. The d-pad has preassigned routines that help you control the squad.

I've played for the last hour and a half, and I am still on the first level. I've just come to the point where the Xbox demo kicks off.

Sadly, I don't have Live to try this out on, but I will attempt to try it on XBConnect or Xlink. If anyone else can put some multi impressions from Live, it would be greatly appreciated.

Back to playing, more impressions later...

I have the Xbox version and the game supports 480P. Looks great in widescreen so I'm thinking it supports that. I'll check again though. Graphics and framerate are top notch. Effects are sweet especially the explosions. What's most important though is they nailed the UI.

SOLD!

I'm thinking the people who "reviewed" the game didn't actually beat it if they complained about the length. I'm in the middle of the RAS level and been playing for over an hour and a half and it isn't over yet. They probably saw a bullet point listing of the levels and thought "WTF this is too short, I should complain about it". That would also explain why no one mentioned the multiplayer.

So far it's one of my favorite games this generation.

Republic Commando single player experience > Halo 2's single player experience.

wow, you guys are making me happy I picked this up like the consumer whore I am. Between this and BIA tomorrow I'm pretty excited.

Most likely.

Yes, one of mine too. It joins my elites: Metroid Prime 1/2, Resident Evil 4, MGS3, and Halo 1/2.

Republic Commando single player experience > Halo 2's single player experience.

By far. Sorry Master Chief.

There hasn't been a Star Wars FPS this fun or "Star Warsy" since the original Dark Forces. The choice of music cues is PERFECT.

I don't know if I'd put it over Halo 2's campaign (as I REALLLY loved that), but it IS really good.

The second mission is absolutely awesome thus far. Wandering around that ship is suprisingly atmospheric and the scanarios are just rocking.

I'm really hoping this game receives more attention, as it really deserves it. These guys put together a very kickass game.

Totally agree. The usage of the music is absolutely blowing me away. The "main theme" of the game is also unfamiliar to me and sound fantastic (Episode III music, perhaps?). This game really manages to convey the feeling of Star Wars better than almost any other SW game yet made. That aspect was done so incredibly well in this game...

Here's some impressions I posted in another forum. I REALLY like this game. I know many who were hating on it earlier because they didn't take the time to figure out the demo. It's looking as if LucasArts has got another hit on thier hands. Where are the TV commercials for this game!

"I've been playing this game like a madman for the past few hours and I really like it a lot. This game is cool not only for Star Wars fans, but also for action first person shooter fans. They even sprinkled the gameplay with some tactical manuvering and it works pretty well, even if it holds your hand to a certain extent (it's obvious the developers wanted a wide base of appeal on this one).

The three things that make this game extremely immersive are the top notch voice acting and chatter from your Delta squad team members, the excellent use of highly detailed and positional sound, and the visor effects (i.e. blood splatterings and liquid on your visor). The game has a really good pacing, tight controls and so far an excellent story. I haven't tried online yet (DM, TDM, CTF) to see how it plays, the only disappointment I have (and I knew this before release) is that the game doesn't support any co-op play, and this is the perfect game for this feature. I guess Brothers in Arms, Rainbow Six: Lockdown, and Close Combat: First to Fight will have have to fill that void.

Again, what's reallyl doing it for me is the dialogue of your squad members, they just say things that'll make you chuckle and the delivery is spot on.

Overall nothing extremely revolutionary, but this game is fun and I;m enjoying it. Even if your not a Star Wars fan, this game is worth checking out. It's a solid first person shooter. More impressions forth coming........... "

Also, Star Wars: Battlefront for XBox just got an update that includes a new maps and expanded multiplayer to 32 players online. Just an FYI.....

It's not Episode III music. John Williams only scored the movie a couple weeks ago. It's something original for the game.

I also love when your squad takes out enemies via melee as each one has a different way to kill them. I was laughing when I saw this Trandosan attempt a flying kick at one of my guys and he was on the ground in a headlock instantly.

I tried to enjoy this, but couldn't get into it. Returned it for Project: Snowblind, a graphically inferior but far more enjoyable alternative. It was too repetitive and plodding for my tastes. I've only played a bit of Snowblind, but the action is a lot more intense, the environments more varied, and the augmentations a nice plus. Again, the visuals in Snowblind aren't quite as polished as those in SW:Republic Commando, but they're not so bad as to detract from the gameplay.

Just got to the Kashyyyk mission.

This is the best Star Wars game ever made. KOTOR doesn't deserve to small its shit.

The end to the RAS mission is fucking intense!

Hmm, it can't be that good, can it? I may have to give this a rent.

I'm really enjoying it, but I have a few beefs.

1) Infinate enemy spawns. I am very used to clearing out all opposition before getting objectives done such as setting charges, reviving teammates, etc. When enemies just keep coming and coming with no end, it makes this kinda hard. Not really a flaw per se, but its something I don't really dig on.

2) The main blaster weapon is not effective enough. Its great against droids. No problem there. You can usually just saw their heads off with a good line of fire. Anything else though, and you can sit and empty an entire clip into those fuckers (not talking about super droids btw) and they shoot the whole time like they're not taking damage. My friend argued "well, you take damage and keep firing so why not them?" Good point. Not sure if I like having a weapon where you can't tell if you're landing hits or missing, but still an interesting point.

3) The AI is good, but its not THAT good. From time to time my guys will place a bomb on a door or something and then just stand there right next to it. I blow it and yell "get clear" and they move, but you can still tell they're taking some light damage. That's just kinda dumb. MOST of the time they know better, but the occassional hiccup in wisdom is pretty noticable when its something like that.

Now onto the good things.

The graphics are "holy shit!" good. Especially when you use the night vision on your visor. Looks like the real deal. Very convincing. Great art all around too. The characters and locations are all very exotic and interesting to look at.

Sound is matched only by the spectacular offerings of Full Spectrum Warrior. The chatter, gunfire, bursts of static when the droids get blown up, etc. Its all incredible. The music is also very appropriate. You get in the shit and it just starts getting real dramatic to the point where if somebody in the next room was listening, they'd think you were watching a Star Wars movie.

AI IS pretty good for the mostpart. When enemies kick your grenades back at you, it always seems to be at the most unexpected time. Really cool. And I like how your squad uses corner fire and other REAL tactics without being told. Not like the marines in Halo 2 who just kinda stand around and get shot. This is what Halo 2 needed for your allies.

Lastly, the game really has a way of bringing me into it's world. What more can you ask for from a game?

I'm on the very last level of the Kashyyyk campaign and will finish it tomorrow.

Kashyyyk uses the exact same design from Revenge of the Sith.

The Kashyyyk campaign takes place right before the events in Revenge of the Sith in regards to the planet. It may be the night before, however I am not 100% sure.

The funniest thing I've see so far in the game was a Battle Droid that said "Uh oh" right before a Wookiee smashed it into the ground. This wasn't a scripted cut scene; the Wookiees go around smashing enemies and it's just something that happened in the heat of battle.

It's not Episode III music. John Williams only scored the movie a couple weeks ago.

Wow, now that's impressive. I actually find the original music in this game to be more impressive than the borrowed pieces from the actual movie score. I wonder who was responsible for it?

Time to figure out the demo?! I blinked and it was over.

From what I saw it was damn impressive...anyone played multiplayer yet?

MULTIPLAYER:

Supports Xbox LIVE, Split-Screen, and System Link for the following adveserial modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Assault, Capture the Flag. Up to 16 players are supported.

There is NO Co-op in any shape or form. (Game kind of feels like co-op in single player anyway though)

Wow! This thread has me really thinking about picking this game up. I played the demo that came with KOTOR II and was not impressed. I even posted here on some of the demo threads about how generic I thought the demo felt, but I'm happy to be proven wrong. Sounds like this is great. I'd better finish up HL2 ASAP, so I can get on this before the PSP launch.

This is a really solid game. The graphics are nice and detailed, generous amounts of polygons used to build the enviroments. Music is spectacular as are the sound effects. The communication that goes on between squad-mates is great and varied so far. The on-line element is good but not great, characters seem to float across the map and movement seems to stutter too often. I wouldn't mind LucasArts implementing a lobby style set-up for the online sessions (Rainbow 6). Single player is amazing though, very immersive and worth the 50 bucks.

Anyone pick up the PC Version? If so, how is it? DETAILS. You fuckers making me want this game!!! ><

I have it for the PC...

I'd say that, if you have the choice, go for the PC version. The PC version mostly runs at a rock solid 60 fps and sports EXTREMELY short load times (3-4 seconds). Plays great and feels much more polished than a lot of other PC FPS titles...

*froth*

Thank you~

Wow, I was not expecting this game at all ... and I'm enjoying its singleplayer experience at least 5-fold over Halo 2.

Finally a game that borrows emmersive FX elements from Metroid!!!

The level of scripting is so much fun! repelling from drop ships as your men get snatched by flying Geonosians, guys getting owned by head drills, the Wookies!

I rented it for the Xbox, it runs great .. but I don't know if I want to purchase it for PC or Xbox ... my couch is really comfey, and I hate my mouse so maybe Xbox.

I don't understand. Why were so many people hating on the demo, and now everyone is praising the final version?
Did the game to a 180 since the demo release?
I'd really like to get the game.

Actually, a lot of us who didn't like the demo (and have posted in this thread) like the game. It wasn't very representative of the final awesomeness.

Can you alaborate on the differences?
