Official SW:Republic Commando Thread!

I don't understand. Why were so many people hating on the demo, and now everyone is praising the final version?
Did the game to a 180 since the demo release?
I'd really like to get the game.

If the demo didn't move you, the full game won't. I'm enjoying Project Snowblind a lot more.

Just finished the first mission (Geonosis) and it takes nearly 2 hours to get through, but the ending is FUCKING AWESOME.

The second mission takes place a year later on a Republic Assault Ship (Star Destroyer). Since it has a Kashyyyk mission, it looks like the game covers the entire Clone Wars from beginning to end however,

Major Episode III Spoiler
I do not know yet if the game has the Clonetroopers executing Order 66 and killing their Jedi generals. If it happens, it probably doesn't until the very end. It'd be cool if it did though!

Holy Crap! I never thought about that! It'd be an awesome twist if it did happen but given the high spoiler aspect of it, I doubt it will be in the game.

Blockbuster has a couple of copies in stock so hopefully I can swing by later and grab me a copy! :D

Please note that this game DOES NOT support 480p. Nor does it support widescreen!

It even tricks you by switching into 480p to it to show you the copyright screen, then it proceeds to switch back to 480i. On the back of the box, it proclaims 480p support. Argh!

I'm going to write LucasArts a letter and I urge you to do the same.

You serious? Glad I didn't buy the XBOX version...

From what I understand....change your Xbox settings from Widescreen to Fullscreen and it displays in 480p.

This sort of bullshit really annoys me. Why should we have to change settings on the dashboard to make sure one game works right? It's like WE8, I returned it because if you had all the HD things enabled it cut off the sides of the screen. You had to disable some of them ti "fix" it.

These developers should really test their f'n games.

or maybe you should you know start playing games for gameplay.

So, let's say I buy a new Mustang. I bought it for it's "drivability." However, in order to get it to work right I have to swap some fuses every time. If I don't, the car doesn't reach its max potential and runs like a dog.

How the fuck can you defend a developer for shipping a game with a bug? Also, how can you presume to know why I buy games?

so your saying you bought the game for its widescreen capabilites?

Yes its a pretty stupid bug to have but to trade in a masterpiece of a game like winning eleven over something like this is just stupid IMO.

Not having 480p is not a fatal flaw if the game is good.

I got the PS2 version dumbass. So, your opinion is in fact wrong, because I exchanged it for another version!

The bottom line is I am excited to play RC, but am really disappointed in a flaw/bug like this.

wait how am i suppose to know you traded it in fromthe ps2 version? and still not playing a great game due to 480p or whatever is retarded.

Is Kashyyyk the last world? Im stuck on the mission called "A bridge too far" theres two super droid dispensers and a rocket turret the other side of the bridge that i just cant touch because theres no cover from which to cover anyone setting up the explosives...

I played a bit of this last night and was very surprised at how good it was. I got both DMC3 and RC and RC is by far more fun.

I don't want to derail this thread any more, so here is my last response. I got WE8 X Box, took it home, and noticed the video bug. I exchanged it for the PS2 version, which I now happily play. I did not get rid of it because it did not have 480p. The X Box version had a severe issue- 5-10% of the image was cropped on the sides.

Unfortunately you are the retarded one because you took my original post, which was meant to criticize lazy developers, and turned it into something it is not AND insulted me to boot. You were not supposed to know I exchanged it for the PS2 version, and I never said you were. However, you were not supposed to assume things in order to insult someone you don't even know.

You need to rush them using EC grenades. Grenade the turret and keep the droids stunned while people set charges on the dispensers.

Just picked this up, I hope it's good.

Edit: 2 and a half hours later and I'm done with Geonosis. This game is pretty fucking badass. Thanks for the Progressive Scan fix too. I was pissed when it popped back into 480i at first.

i just picked this up . never played the demo.

1 player seems ok so far. a bit clunky compared to some other 1st person games out there though.

the online part so far does nothing for me which sucks cuz that was the main reason i was picking it up.

no motion sensors, and no way to invite a friend to a game unless you are the one hosting the game.

also throws you in the middle of a game already going on instead of matching you up and starting a new fresh game.

gotta put some more time into it to be sure but might just have preferred to rent this one. :(

Kashyyyk is the last world, the game is incredibly short and the ending aint all that great either, what a let down. With the way the game was building up and the great atmosphere brought about by the superb music (really, the music makes this game) i was expecting a real blockbuster finish, but no.

i think i will this weekend, might be nice to see how it leads into the movie.

just thinkin outloud and wishing i rented it 1st.

how short is it? 20 hours or less?

Ghost said:
much, much shorter, this game makes Chronicles of Riddick look like Final Fantasy 7.

Wow. I was thinking about buying this game, but with a length like that, it looks like it's rentin' time...

my local guy is gunna let me swap it on monday,

so i'm thinkin street fighter and put the remaining down on mx vs. atv any other online suggestions ?

I got the PS2 version dumbass

RC is Xbox exclusive. Try again. *edit* nm, I see you meant Winning Eleven 8.

Also, Halo 1 and 2 are only like 12 hours long or so. I didn't hear anyone bitching about the length of those games, so suddenly its an issue now?

You obviously weren't paying attention when halo 2 came out, and it was not any where near as short as this game (Neither was Halo). Thats not even considering the better replay value and multi-player sections those games had.

Id definitely recommend people just rent it.

Phantom Dust comes out next Wednesday...

I bought RC and am really enjoying it. Played some splitscreen multiplayer... pretty fun. Nothing we haven't all seen before, but fun nonetheless. 12-15 hours is more than enough for me, but I prefer my games to be less than 20 hours.

Don't fuckin lecture me on Halo. I'm the Halo fuckin master. You didn't like Republic Commando, fine. Too bad for you.

Just finished Republic Commando today and I have to say, the ending SUCKED. Is this the year of lousy game endings or what? Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and now this. It also felt like the shit was just about to hit the fan and then BOOM, done. Very disappointing ending to a fantastic game.

*Spoilers ahoy!*

Sev dies and you just fucking leave him there? What the shit is that crap? They don't even give you the option to go back for him?! I was already halfway back to his position when the game ended and I was so pissed. Then the game is just over. So if you're not going to be given the opportunity to go save him, why even have him die right before the end? All Commandos could have made it just fine to the next dropship. It didn't add anything to the story other than just make me mad. I suspect its some cheapass way of making you see the Episode III movie in hopes of learning how it turned out for Sev, but that's just crappy. I shouldn't have to go see a movie just to find out what the game should have told me anyway. Weaksauce!

Aside from that bitch-fest though, the rest of the game was pretty cool. Some very intense battles for sure. I'm not sure I was ever on the edge of my seat playing Halo 2 so much as I was with this game. It gets really hard when you have to fight a Spider Droid, a bodygaurd, 3 super battle droids, and some droidekas all at once. That was fucking insane. Best of all, it wouldn't be possible if your squad wasn't so smart. 90% of the time those fuckers are brilliant. A few times here and there they'll fuck it up and walk into a sniper's line of fire, stand too close to a charge, etc., but then again I do that shit too so its kinda like they're regular people.

Very fun game. I'll have a review up very soon.

Is this the year of lousy game endings or what?

Those other games you mentioned were last year, though. :P Still, 2004 featured the best ending I've yet viewed in a game (MGS3)...so it's hardly the year of lousy game endings.

Granted those WERE out in 2004, but its been less than a year since they came out, so that's why I've called it the year of shitty endings.

2 things...

How is two lines of text a lecture on halo? If you know so much about it then surely you know LOTs of people bitched about its length, and you surely also know that its much longer than RC.

I never said i didnt like the game, i said it was too short, my playtime was under 10 hours. And as you pointed out the ending sucks.

Maybe thats a few more than 2 things..

anyway, thanks a lot for your ill-mannered post.

bah this was a Run of the Mill Squad based shooter coated with Starwars Nostalgia. The actual gameplay was just average at best.

Id definitely recommend people just rent it

Maybe my English is bad, but to me that reads like, "I didn't like this game". So unless you put forth a little more effort into your post next time, this is all you're saying.

If you know so much about it then surely you know LOTs of people bitched about its length, and you surely also know that its much longer than RC.

Halo 1 and 2 are what, 4 hours longer than RC? At the most? This arguement is stupid. Next time you post, just explain what you don't like about the game and WHY its a mere rental or you're going to rack up points for being a troll.

anyway, thanks a lot for your ill-mannered post.

Just annoys me when people like you make lame fucking blanket statements like "this game is a rental". Try harder next time and people won't treat you like a troll.

Umm, take out the cutscenes and stuff and Halo 2 is about the same in length in this game. It took me about 9-10 hours to finish Halo 2 on Normal mode. So far, I've already logged about 8 hours in RC and I'm no where near finished just yet.

Also, there will be downloadable content once the movie releases...

You can boil down nearly every game to a "run of the mill" experience. And I will agree that RC is not doing one thing that hasn't been done before. Nonetheless, it is a fun gaming experience. I would only suggest someone buy it if they are Star Wars fans and/or FPS fans. You won't be dissapointed. If you don't fit the bill, then stay away from it.

Congrats to LucasArts. Somehow, it is very comforting to me, to know that they can still develop a good game in-house.

Pros:

Sound - superb, with some nice squad interaction, great score
Graphics - not jawdropping, but appreciable
Guns - all based off of historic FPS guns, but look great and sound great
Hud - extremely functional and not as intrusive as it first appears
Star Wars - fans will appreciate the references in the game
multiplayer - simple, perfect map sizes, fun

Cons:

Squad based tactics are total cheese - see silhouette (sp?) press a... nothing nearly as deep as R6III
"generic" - from level design to gameplay it screams typical FPS, but for those of us that like shooters it's not a problem

If i didnt like it, id say "dont play this game it's shit", rental means it's not worth full price but you should play it anyway, why the HELL would I tell everyone to go and rent a game i dont like!

I wont spoil it for you by working out how far from the end you are i'll just say this.

Playing Halo 2 on normal is equivilent to playing this game on easy, try it and see how long it takes you, or play Halo 2 on heroic and see how much longer that takes.

The funniest thing I've see so far in the game was a Battle Droid that said "Uh oh" right before a Wookiee smashed it into the ground. This wasn't a scripted cut scene; the Wookiees go around smashing enemies and it's just something that happened in the heat of battle.

:lol

I don't think he's really dead. Actually, there's already a sequel planned (Imperial Commando) which will come out for Xbox 2 and PC. So I think we'll get to see Sev again.

Yeah, thats imidiatly what I thought. It was stupid that Sev was left there and it definetly spoiled the ending for me but I just put it down to them leading into Imperial Commando.

Was I the only one who thought this game wouldve been better if they stuck to the original concept of it taking place over one day of the war? Although I loved the Kashyyk mission the most I think it wouldve made the game a bit more Half-Life-esque and feel a little less like a run-of-the-mill shooter.

Also, does anyone know where your screenshots are saved?

Yup. This is a C+ title. If you guys want some great squad-based play, rent or buy Brothers in Arms. While I initially gave it a poor rating, the game picks up considerably, particularly when the
tank
arrives.

Absent the Star Wars license, Republic Commando would be soon forgotten.

Ok, first you were trolling this thread telling people to buy Snowblind instead and now you're back trolling again only this time telling people to buy Brothers at Arms?

Honestly, my opinion of BiA has risen quite a bit. It's obvious there are a few people in this thread that didn't take to RC; they found RC wanting in quality squad-based play. I am suggesting they purchase BiA. I don't see how that's trolling.
