Official Tomb Raider: Anniversary Thread

GREAT game! Just got to Egypt. This is my first Tomb Raider ever (I did play TR:The Last Revelation for like 10 min) and I'm having a blast. Can't wait to play Legends!

Larson, wasn't expecting Lara to follow them..when she showed up in the Mines that changed everything. Larson, was going to kill Lara, he was banking on the fact that Lara didn't have what it takes to kill him first, that first shot didn't hit Larson yet he racked the shotgun and aimed it at her instead of dropping his weapon.

Kid, had an ongoing vendetta with Kold, after Kold killed Kid's gang,(Kid's gang tried to carjack Natla). When Kold stabbed Kid that was the last straw,

I'm stuck and need help

In the pillar rooms AFTER the underwater sphinx and scrab puzzle, I can climb the first pillar on the right and go to top of the crevice. However, from there, I can't seem to make the jump to the second pillar, Laura keeps jumping towards the either side of the pillar and won't jump to the second pillar itself.
Any tips?

What sound issues?

Sound cracking/popping on the title screen, cutscenes. Pretty big issue with the PC version of Legends. I remember being able to fix it by lowering/turning off hardware acceleration, but that gave some really bad latency.

there are some grappling spots in that room one on the right wall and the other is on the ceiling. Eygpt is pretty awsome

I want this game soooo bad but I'm hold out for the 360 version. I have this sinking feeling that each level pack will be $10 and not $5 though, which means I'll be paying double just for the right to play the game months after everyone else :(

That's exactly how I feel; I think it's a very real possibility that they'll price it that way. I'm still going to wait for the 360 version, but I really hope they don't make me regret it. If the PS2 and PC versions are $20 when they had to pay for manufacturing, packaging and distribution, surely direct downloads for the 360 shouldn't be more expensive, right?

Right, Eidos?

I had read that the sound issues were due to a certain type of Logitech speakers. There's a post on Gamefaqs (sorry) on it.

:) i'll be buying the 360 version too, maybe even the Legend/Anni combo meal if it ever comes out.

Did I missed anything?
Was the game announced for the 360?!

I know is coming to Wii, and apparently is going to be really good...but I haven't heard anything of a 360 version...

Do you have a link?

Nevermind. It's the same exact problem they never addressed from Legends. Only way to clear it up is to turn down hardware acceleration, but that causes problems as well. ****, I really wanted to play this game.

There's been no official announcement as far as I know; just this listing on the ESRB's website that suggests it will be offered as downloadable content for 360:

Did you find the topic on Gamefaqs then? Yeah it seems that is the only solution. Do you have the speakers in question? Maybe you could return them or invest in a new set.

Edit: Or is it the sound card that is the problem.

It's not speaker related, it's the sound card. I will eventually upgrade, but not for this game. :(

I'm playing on PS2. What a great update of the original (and still best) Tomb Raider. I only faintly remember many scenes, and each level I get the same "aha!" memory as I recognize the update.

For example, the raising and lowering of the water puzzle; the dinosaurs in Lost Valley; the fire pillars over water; the Egyptian mummy things; the
Centaurs
that you fight.
I really enjoyed figuring out the twin Centaur boss battle. I died at least 10 times -- usually frozen then kicked into tiny Lara-splinters -- before I realized you could grapple the shields off them.

I'm up to the Obelist of Khamoon (I think thats the name) now. Enough Egypt for one day, I'll beat it later on, need a break. These levels are huge at times.

The
centaurs
boss fight was a really fun one and yeah the levels do seem really huge at times. Doing time trials and finding the rest of the relics and artifacts really helps with that and plus you'll know the layouts in no time.

There's a direct feed vid of the PSP version on Youtube. The environments look exceptional, long draw distances, decent geometry and lighting.

I'd dare say the best the PSP has seen so far... Definitely going to pick this up...My wallet really is going to suffer this month :(

A Wii port with effort?

Possibly. Man, I sure hope so, though. I just want to see third parties put forth some real effort to make a strong game on the Wii. The last Tomb Raider game I purchased was on the Saturn so the fact I'm even looking at it is saying something. The new motions and puzzles look nice and if they can nail the movement like Scarface on the Wii did, then I'll be happy. Even then as long as they give good sensitivity options, I'll be happy.

New video for the Wii edition.

Looks pretty awesome. I haven't purchased a Tomb Raider game in a LONG time, but this seems to be something I can get into.

The motion/pointer tools look neat, but the framerate did seem a bit choppy. I remember hearing that Legends on Xbox 1 was 60 fps, so I was hopeful that Wii's Anniversary port could manage the same, or at least a smooth 30 fps. Not a major complaint, though, and one that could be addressed before release. Definitely looking forward to this game.

The most appealing difference to me is that the lock-on combat system from the PS2/PC version has been replaced with a manual aiming system using the wiimote. Also, the lighting appears to have been majorly altered in some areas (there weren't any pitch black areas in the PS2/PC version). It was obviously done to make use of the added flashlight which can have its beam focus altered by twisting the wiimote left or right. It's also good to see that they've heavily altered some of the puzzles. Hopefully they don't go overboard with wii gesture stuff. The only other concern I have is how they'll handle camera controls.

If they handle the camera like they do in Scarface, that would be great. The free aim/camera movement in that game is how I think all 3rd person games should be done on the Wii.

I finished the PS2 version of this tonight. Great game, beautifully put together. Does also show how poor a lot of modern level design is too, especially in the imagination stakes.

If anyone has finished it and not bothered with the commentaries, I'd recommend going back and listening to them (they work like HL2: Lost Coast) as they're really interesting and feature both the lead designer and Toby Gard gassing about changes from the original and other insights.

Just started playing this on the PSP, I can't believe how good the graphics and sound are but I decided to start in Croft Manor and got stuck fairly early. How do I open that freakin door?? Edit: Nvm, got it. :D

the one where I had to jump onto the painting.

What door? The one outside to the maze?

Oh common..., that is easy :p. Just read the metal plate next to it.

Just picked this up on the PSP, great game. I forgot how much I loved this series when it's done right, just adventuring, exploring and rock climbing my way through the great environments is a blast. Good stuff!

So, any impressions for the 360 version for those who have it? I was thinking of buying it and I was wondering how was the port job.

Tomb Kane Lynch Thief

Also, Tomb Raider Anniversary is pretty cool. But I hate when you're walking through a dark hallway and then HOLY FUCK A GORILLA OMG!!!!

That made me jump more than once :lol

I'm nearly done this game (playing on Wii): absolutely LOVE it.

The freedom and scale are so refreshing given how linear/'cinematic'/hand-holding adventure-platforming games have become. While PoP might have tighter controls, the level design / puzzles don't hold a candle to this (and I really like PoP games).

re: the Wii port, I played the demo maxed-out on PC, and while 60-frames and HD are nice, the assets and effects are identical except for no depth-of-field on Wii: definitely one of the Wii's sharper looking games. (I'd be shocked if the PS2 game looks/runs this well as some allege.) Frame-rate is solid (rare drops in hallways seemingly related to disc loading), IQ is very good (very little noticeable aliasing, no shimmering).

The Wii controls are the opposite of what I was expecting. While I could take or leave the free-aim shooting (since - thankfully - there's so little to shoot), I'm really digging the Wiimote camera control: much more fluid than with a stick, and I can - and do - control the camera at all times without running out of fingers for other stuff.

The extra Wii content could be better: the 'minigames' would be better if they were more skill-based, but I haven't found them a chore. The PC game felt a bit 'sparse' in comparison. The flashlight is criminally underused: it's awesome looking/feeling walking down pitch-dark sections with it out (so fluid), but there are never any environmental obstacles or enemies in those sections! (just the occasional pickup)

I'd recommend this as a full-priced game. As a bargain game - with deals on top everywhere - it's the biggest no-brainer on the system.

Okay, so what the fuck? You have to have the Legends disk to buy Anniversary on Xbox Live Arcade. I was psyched to play this this weekend. I guess not, now.

I don't know whether to buy 360 or Wii version.

Sorry to bump this old thread but I need some help:

I'm in the mines right now and try to get the green fuze, I know what to do but everytime I try to jump away from the wall after using the grapple hook this stupid ---- jumps straight forward and dies. How the fuck can I jump away from the wall?

Things like that make me crazy in games..Is it really necessary that the platform is NOT in front of you or at least in the middle of the wall run? No, it has to be slightly ahead and of course you have to do all the stuff over and over again until you figure it out..

Thanks in advance, you will help to save another innocent joypad

EDIT: It's the 360 version btw.

EDIT²: Made it, found some youtube video which kinda explained it. I always thought that thats what manuals are for, oh well.

Plus the problem was that the default camera made you jump in every direction except the one you have to, so you have to jump, wall run, switch the camera angle, press left, wait a second (but not to long cause then Lara stops) jump and press down..yeah thats good programming!

On a more positive note: Excellent game that takes me back of the glorious PSX days, not too many enemies lots of tricky jumps (not unfair like the above) and stunning locations. Music is awesome as well, just wish they would have given me an option to switch that ugly hair cross off but besides that it's probably the second best remake after the Resident Evil one.
