Do you guys have any idea for the remaining questions?

-Abou the HDMI lil' burning issue

-The fan spee

-The amount of data needed by the PS3 on the HDD ( xxg?)

-Still no way to change the wallpaper?

Never experienced that myself, I'm using hdmi but I'm not sure I can help.

Playing blu-ray movies or games, the PS3 has always been quiet for me. I never really noticed a difference in fan speed or it getting louder. Though stinkles says his ps3 gets loud during blu-ray playback, I don't even hear mine when playing movies (or games for that matter).

Can't say honestly, I never looked at until until a week or so after I started downloading stuff so my number wouldnt be accurate.

Not yet, but many assume (because the psp has this feature, after launch), that it will come in one of the next firmware updates. Rumors point to this big pre-europe launch firmware update.

Only the first 500k units in NA had the free movie.

sorry I cant help more than that.

I have been leaving my PS3 running with Break-in DVD in loop (for my new Plasma HDTV) running while I'm at work

and no anomolies whatso ever, my PS3 is running fine. A few more days of this proceedure is needed to age my Plasma TV to break it in passed the first 100 hours

Only had my PS3 get noticeably louder once the 2nd day or so after I got it and was playing the F1 demo. Don't think I've heard it since.

alright, so i was just at walmart looking to pick up a ps2. they didn't have any. however, sitting on the shelves was a single 20gb ps3. i bought it. i walked away at first, but ended up coming back to it and caving. now it's sitting in the box in my room staring at me. i'm not sure if i should open it. i can afford it, but i wasn't planning on buying one for quite some time. how the hell can walmart not have any ps2's?

Sony is doomed?

Open it. Buy Resistance. Download Gripshift Demo, Blast Factor Demo, F1 Demo, and GT HD Concept.

Enjoy.

It's happened to me before... a few times. At first, I was a bit scared something was wrong with my HDTV and/or PS3. But it went away after I calibrated my TV again... so try calibrating your set and see if that fixes it.

I'm not sure what I did to fix it or what the true cause of the problem is, but I believe it has something to do with how high you set the Brightness of your TV to. That and maybe the Contrast as well. All I know is, my PS3 doesn't have the "burn-in" problem anymore. It only occurred up to about 3 weeks (and not everytime I used PS3) after I got it.

sounds like a ps2 or more louder.

Everyone has their own definition of "loud." You can definitely hear PS3 running its fans, but it is noticebly more quiet compared to PS2 (especially with HDD) and X360. Compared to most home theater equipment, yeah, it's somewhat "loud."

Are you just trolling, cuz it sure sounds like it.
If you already bought a PS3 and can afford to buy one without worrying about price, then why are you letting it sit there, unopened? And why are you even posting here, telling people this, like we care? Either open it, play it, use it, or just return it. Simple as that.

I think I have found the perfect date for me to get my PS3. On Feb 20 the Prestige comes out on Blu Ray and VF5 comes out so it only makes sense that I get it then. After CES I am pretty disapointed in HD DVD and feel that it might be best to sell my add on and put it toward the cost.

holy christ are ps3 fans sensitive these days. no, i wasn't trolling. in fact, i challenge any person on this forum to find a single example of me trolling. i was looking for some outside insight. i thought maybe someone here could give me a convincing reason to keep it. i just wasn't sure if i wanted to invest $600 in a ps3, that's all. just because i have the cash doesn't mean i need to spend it...

anyway, i took it back to a different walmart that had ps2's in stock. i'll pick a ps3 up later. and relax a little, will ya? they're just videogames...

I'm curious, but why are you disappointed in HD-DVD after CES?

Well like i said , my brightness is 60 (a lot) and my constrast is max (100) so yeah its visible...i tried brightness at 50 and its much less visible...but could u try to up ur brightness and see if its still there?

anybody else?

I may have a solution for him....
I think there are 4 speed fan for the ps3
THe one when u turn on the system....noiseless , but it lase like 1min without any noise.
Then , one with a little noise , but its like PStwo.
Then , you have the one while playing a doing something that make it hot....its doing the same noise as a Wii playing a game (including the disc drive)

THEN , for most pple , no more fan speed BUT i tried to let no air for the ps3 to see , to make it hotter and i found a 4 fan speed which make a lot more noise when the console is hotter...

Anyway , if you have this fan speed , try to find another place for ur ps3 !

Cause they really only announced 1 exculsive movie and like 1 TV show everything else was stuff coming out on Blu ray too. Blu ray completely dominated the show for me with movies I actually care about.

OK I went out today and for some reason buckled and got a 20 gig instead of a 60, should I take it back?
Are download speeds much slower on wifi and is there a lot of lag?
How can you put movies, pics, and music on the system by other means than the memory slots?

Also how many systems did they back Talladega nights with cause it was in mine which i didn't expect.

It's up to you I guess.

jjasper said:

Couldnt tell you because I only have one unit, but I havent really experienced slow downloads. Though without knowing the actual speed a file is going, its hard to say. But if it helps, I downloaded the gripshift demo in about 3 minutes on my 60GB.

USB, or use data discs (RW's should work so you wont waste blanks). Or you can use red kawa file server for ps3.

500K in north america.

Thanks. Seems I somehow got one of the first systems in the middle on Jan. Anyway I opened it cause I could wait to play resistance, I think I might keep it but they had a 60 there and I was careful enough when I opened it that they sticky tape part is still intact and still sticky so I can return it if I feel the need.

PS: Resistance rocks my socks.

data disks? they work? time for me to pop some disks in there
Yeah Just go to show all or something like that when pressing triangle, it should show files. I tried it with a DVDRW a while back when I couldnt fit a movie on my 1GB memory stick and it worked great (this was before I found out about the file server).

hmm..
http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Games

Seems motorstorms Feb 27th date disappeared on "Upcoming Games". Heavenly Sword's March 6th date gone as well.

F1 Championship date was added where motorstorm was; Feb 27th.
MLB 07 The show was added for April 3rd.

what happened to motorstorm and heavenly sword? :(
hopefully just a site error while updating the page.

ok, if you all dont know already, I am a huge hd dvd supporter and even I cant argue with what happened at CES...the blu ray movie list announced had mega hits I want....hd dvd just showed new hardware and not much more. If I were to pick a format that may survive, its blu ray. Sucks too becaus hd dvd movies are cheaper and look the same as the best blu ray movies. oh well.

sony did tell porn studios "no" so hd dvd did get those....vhs won because of porn they say...I just think people will stick with dvd and then digital downloads will be the shizzle.

SO plz could someone answer me about the almost invisible burning in HDMI? (i tried component there is none)

set ur tv with higher brightness level and check , someone plz

Yeah, unlike the VHS vs Betamax era where the majority of the Porn companies who chose VHS and thus was the winner, it's completely different for HD DVD and Blu ray. Unlike back then where porn can only be obtained via VHS tapes, nowadays it's all about digital downloads or cable.

That said, the Japanese porn studios seems to be supporting Blu ray though.

Sony said what to porn studios?

Is it ok to leave the playstation 3 on standby, meaning you can turn it off but not power it down in the back? I always did that with my PS2 when I turned it off turned it off from the back as well.

Also to the poster who cound't turn it off via the touch pad, just use the PS button on the controller dude, I just use the remote to turn it off.

Also sometiems the bluetooth doesn't pick up when I turn the console on, sadness.

I don't see why there should be any issues with leaving the switch in the back on, I leave mine on and did for the 6 years of owning my PS2 and had no issues.

Is there any option to not have the PS3 autorun the game if there is one in the drive when you first start the machine up?

No, but holding a shoulder button or a direction on the d-pad while the system boots keeps the PS3 from auto-launching whatever is in the drive.
