14 more days to go. (Exactly two weeks from now.) :)
OK people, this is where the REAL hype starts LOL
Paid off my system lat week, I'll pay off my gamers today. Just need an extra 50 bucks for my GS warranty and its ON

Anybody heard about the warranty Sony will offer? I'm really hoping on a 9month to 1 year warranty so I wont have to give ebgames 60 bucks, which I could use on another game.

This is a good question. Anyone know anything yet?

Also:
Oblivion delayed? What?

...and I hope they have difficulty levels for Resistance. Everything I've read about it is that it's retardedly difficult. Hopefully they just sent out demos of the Hard difficulty? Tap-in GOD MODE, ftw? :D

You know, even though I don't understand the language, you can still usually "get" foreign commercials through the visuals, but I soooo don't get these at all.

1111

Release date: 11/11

Connect the two.

What is so difficult to understand?

1) Kid looks out window and mistakes 4 long factory chimneys for a large PS3 console-like structure (the way that they are aligned from his angle that is). Then the chimneys pan out and form 4 chimneys, marking the numbers 11/11 (release date of the PS3 in Japan).

2) The second one has a man taking out his electrical shaver from the plug and realizes there are 2 sockets there perfectly aligned and forming two 11's (as in the release date of the PS3 in Japan which is 11/11/06).

3) The 3rd ad is practically the same as the 2nd one, only it's a girl looking at table fork and the 4 prongs make out to be 11/11.

4) Pretty obvious, a guy walks by the PS3TV booth and stops in his tracks, rest of the people join in to see what's up like when someone stops in the middle of a mall/street to look at something and there is a gathering.

Well, I understood the last one well enough, it was the others. I apologize for living in the US and not having memorized the Japanese release date. I was starting to think maybe it was an "inverse" thing they were playing off of - like there are three pieces of empty sky between the smoke stacks, there are three empty areas between the fork prongs, that kind of thing. But the date makes sense.

The release date is shown in the commercial...

At the very end, which I caught after reading the explanation, I closed WMP after the main chunk of the commercial on all of them since I didn't need to see yet another shot of the PS3.

Is the 60gig version just like the Wii when it comes to wifi only, or does it have an ethernet connection too?

The Wii is WHAT????? It's wifi only? You sure it doesn't have a ethernet port?

You can buy an adapter Nintendo is putting out for ethernet, but yeah, out of the box, wifi only.

New PS3 OS walkthru at engagdet, getting a little more thorough than previous tours

http://www.engadget.com/2006/11/03/playstation-3-menu-interface-complete-video-walkthrough/

about 15 mins of footage. First 10 minutes is with a PS3 not connected to network and last 5 minutes is guided tour with Richard Marks from SCE, with a network connection.

Interesting tidbits:

-They don't support voice messages to members of your buddy list right now, just text messages. Live voice and video chat confirmed though.

-Buddy list seems to indicate what game someone is playing, but unconfirmed because RM never saw that before :lol

-Marks seems to think next PSP firmware upgrade will include a browser upgrade that supports YouTube.

-Folding@Home demo'd running on PS3. Should be downloadable off of PS Network.

Thanks kaching, that was definately better than the IGN video, though I wish it were direct feed, couldnt quite make out the words. I posted what I gathered on b3d on the video, and it kinda overlaps what you noticed as well but I'll post what I thought was interesting.

-seems theres 'send image' or 'send avatar' in the chat settings. did not know of that before.
-camera menu didnt really specify a eyetoy, so im guessing any usb camera may work?
-nice to see it shows what game your buddy is playing
-turning on and off notification messages
-the build he was using was 0.98 or 0.96 firmware, couldnt quite make it out the number
-"restore ps3 system" setting seems interesting, but he skipped over it
-next psp firmware will enable youtube video watching
-screensaver can be set at different timed intervals, lowest being 10 minutes i think
-only can send txt messages, but voice and video chat are enabled when you are chatting live (but he mentioned thats a feature that could be upgraded later)
-some friends list settings (couldnt make them out); account management, profile, auto sign off/on, set away, start new chat, etc.
-folding@home seems available as a download, but down the line they plan on give it away free on discs

anyways, seems like the ps3 has tons and tons of settings, i would hate to be the one writing the manual for it. :lol

less than 2 weeks, i can't wait :D

This has been confirmed before, though I'm not sure it's technically *any* USB camera, but it's definitely more than just Eyetoy.

I hope so. I kinda wish somebody had a camera or an eyetoy to try out, hopefully gamespot will tonight.

WOW! All of that sounds great.

That part about YouTube hopefully implies a general upgrade to the Flash support. I wonder how much compatability they can achieve with current Flash software.

Folding@home ftw. But seriously will you not be able to customize background and such? I want to put a jpg,bmp and similar as background for sure.

I wouldnt be surprised if that was updated a couple week after launch. PSP never had custom wallpapers @ launch either, so it doesnt seem like a huge focus at the very moment. But I think I read on the ps forums a while back that they plan on adding it sometime after launch.

watching the video now...random question, but what song is that in the background? it's pretty soothing, lol

edit: I'm a dumbass...it's listed right there on the page

Off: Bad_Boy, can you link me to that picture of a crying baby (he's not actually crying, but kind of holding it)? Thanks. :)

The other thing they show in the engadget walkthrough is how you can customize the looping clip for each video you have stored on the hdd. Looks like it generates the 15 second clip pretty fast.

It probably wasn't the retail box because it's no way small. Look:

media4tn0.jpg
I'm pretty sure(80%) that that was the box. But it sure wasn't that big.

You know, between the browser and the fact that the PS3 will completely outclass my 4 yr old PC in terms of running HD videos, I'm just realizing that the PS3 is basically going to become my primary means of catching up with new gaming media.

So for people without pre-orders.. How long do you actually anticipate you will be waiting or will have to wait in line to get one? Also, at which stores do they not give out pre-orders out, which you can wait in line at.

IGN tested some accessories...
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/743/743894p1.html

eyetoy working fine :)
The first device we tried was the original EyeToy. After plugging it in, its power light came on but the PlayStation 3 didn't prompt us in any way. Heading into the System Settings menu and then its Accessory Options sub-menu, we found a Test Camera option. Happily, we soon saw ourselves smiling back at us in our HD screen via the EyeToy's CCD sensor.

as expected, no 360 accessories (camera, controller) worked. but as a note, this was a debug unit, so the stuff that didnt work that is expected to work (like the psp, and memory sticks), should work fine in the retail unit.

They also tried the ps3 controller on a pc
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/743/743976p1.html
it connected but seems to need some drivers, or maybe a bluetooth dongle.

Anybody know if the memory stick slot is Duo or regular Pro, I dunno why I just thought about it now, but I guess if it's only regular Pro I'll have to get an adaptor as my duo stick never came with one. :/

do we know if PS2 games are region free for ps3 or not? (wanna pal ps3 but i have ntsc ps2 games)

It's the same as the PSP one.

PS3 games are region free, Blu Ray movie are region coded and PS2 and PSone games remain region coded.

^lol that was pretty cool, the exploding rubix cube got me with my speaker volume up. :lol
did not expect that at all.

can't wait to see the rest of them on the playb3yond website. :)

Richard Marks gives the first indication of how F@H on PS3 compares to PCs in that video performance-wise ("20-40 times"), although it's hard to say how much weight to put in those comments without knowing what kind of PC they compared to..
