I'm a little pissed about the remote play only working on the Wi-Fi PS3. I have a wireless base station and there's no reason why it shouldn't be able to talk to the PS3. :|

Now, I don't have a PSP anymore, but I don't like the fact it's locked out of that pretty cool functionality.

At all? Not even 480p? What in the world?
I'm hoping it won't do 480p, actually.

My TV handles 480i DVD input extremely well (3:3 pulldown and fantastic image processing). I've yet to find an upscaling DVD player that can match my TVs internal processing from a 480i source. I would be great if PS3 could actually send 480i to the TV when playing DVD movies without having to mess around with the system settings.

Well, there's the SIXAXIS package I was looking for. Not too impressive, I must say.

Looks much better than the Wii mote package.

now what about the memory card adaptor

wtf is that, need translation asap. :D

Service that "P-TV HD" can download 1080p/720p images of animated cartoon, promotion image, and movie preview, etc. by accessing http://www.p-tv.jp/HD/(It is not possible to inspect it with PC etc.) in HDD of PS3. There is no limitation at the attention period.

When beginning to serve, contents of 23 such as "007/Casino Royale" and "Iron Con muscle cleat" and "Brave Story" are prepared. As for the format, both of 1080p/720p are prepared both of contents when beginning with H.264(8Mbps).

It's ones of those website translotrs but it actually makes sense this time around.

P-TV was a service they initially launched when they released the 2.0 Firmware for the PSP that included the web browser. It was a PSP-only site at the time for downloading video, like TV shows. This is just the extension of that to the PS3. Unfortunately it's also only been for Japan thus far.

Thanks guys, I hope that they put some of the P-TV material on the playstation store for us in the NA to download. :)

Is it just me, or does it all seem to be coming together?
I'm feeling it too. :)

great to finally have solid confirmation of swapping out the HDD. Guess I'm going shopping this weekend.

Yea, like it a lot more. Nintendo should have been smart it put it into those cases the Wiimote tv remotes came in. Anyways, omg, ps3 looks so ****ing nice.

any news on backwards compatibility from those lucky guys in japan who have got their PS3s today?

Did you read the part that the first systems have the EE+GS built into them? It's essentially 100%, minus dual shock or special controllers.

That's So-net (Sony owned ISP in Japan) starts free 1080p/720p HDTV movie download service (H.264 @ 8Mbps) at http://www.p-tv.jp/HD/ exclusively for the PS3 on 11.11.

Not clear what kind of material it is (trailers, or full movies?)

Babelfishing it, it sounds like it offers animation content and movie trailers. It is free, and only accessible from PS3 at www.p-tv.jp/HD/. Partners include Sony Picture Entertainment and Warner Entertainment Japan. Could be worth it's own thread for the attention of JGaffers.

edit - I tried going to the page, and it says something about the page can't be displayed because of the equipment I'm using (i.e. a PC, not a PS3).

Yeah, priority one for Japanese PS3 owners is to determine the browser agent ID, so we can spoof it in firefox, etc.

Wow, it's unbelieveable... We're 7 more days away from launch. At this point the hype and excitement should be sky-high. :)

Omg!!! This is getting me really hyped! Damn. Does anyone know if the guy from largeprimenumbers is doing another video thing? Whats his name? I know everyone hates his write ups but damn are those videos hilarious!

His site is down too.

Ok, so the PS3 is limited on what can be streamed from USB storage but lets say I have an iPod and wanted to get some videos and music from that on to the HDD of the PS3 to play directly. Will it see those files like you can make a computer see them so you can just transfer? Can a PS3 rip files from CD's? Transfer MP3's and video files from a CD that they have been written to or even rip directly from audio cds? Surely someone has the answers to these by now.

And is it still true the Linux install costs money for the first two weeks but will be free there after?

There's an interview with the head of SCE's software platform division, in which he says ipod is not supported yet - it uses a "custom transfer method" unlike other usb devices, and that's the reason why. USB devices that use the standard method work, presumably. You can rip audio CDs to the HDD. Ripping data from CDs or DVDs, I'm not sure.

Officially it's more like a month. Nov 27 it'll be made available to YDL subscribers, then in the week of Dec 25 it will be on public mirrors.

Yea, I read the first part about iPods "transfer method" but I know if you just look for attached devices in windows and hit show all hidden files you can see all the files just to manually transfer. Well, at least you could with all the older iPods so I was hoping you may be able to do the same with the PS3 just to get stuff off an ipod as a USB storage device. At least you can probably do that with Linux, but from the sounds of it they will be in a different partition so whatever you rip for Linux wouldn't be seen by the PS3 media functions.

And I still call bullshit on the no DVD upscaling. They best in hell get that update out quick.

Yeah, it'd be nice if you could have a shared partition, but probably unlikely that that's possible. That's why using an external USB HDD might be attractive, for sharing media between both and perhaps your PC too.

My PC finally crapped out on me. The PS3 will probably be my "PC" for quite awhile. :)

Thia was posted on the BBC's website:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6132212.stm#internal

Cell processor: The IBM-designed Cell processor is the heart of the PS3. It has 234 million transistors and the first versions run at 3.2GHz. It is split into different processing cores that can handle different types of task at the same time.

Games developers are only just getting to grips with the processing power of next generation consoles.

While games for the Xbox 360 and PS3 look a lot better than games for older consoles, they feel much the same in terms of how on-screen enemies react, the physics of the game worlds and range of facial expressions shown by computer controlled characters.

The power supply adaptor is built in to the machine, so the PS3 does not have the "brick" seen on many other gadgets such as laptops.

On a related note in the leaked Best Buy Black Friday ad they are going to have a Western Digital 250GB external HDD for $69.99.

I believe this is it

250GB external HDD

I know its linked to Circuit City but Best Buy's site is down.

Yup..Pricey..But it's nothing like the PS2 era at the same time (around $1700 at launch) :) .

Can you actually place an order with them now, or is this only available to those who preordered? I went into their store, but can't see anything in PS3 Hardware.

Those prices are slightly cheaper than Playasia ($20)...and I'm guessing NCSX ships directly to Europe.
