Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

I'm going to lay this out simply for the junior members everywhere.

No 1440p this gen.
No 1440p next gen.
No standard for 1440p.
It is no more of a "standard" than computer monitor resolutions right now, with an installed base of 0.

The end. Thanks. Now back to tales of launch day sorrow and yen price gouging.

Quick question (please understand that I'm not contradicting you):
How do you know that 1440p is not gonna be this/next generation?

IMO:
I find that 1440 is far much a better number than 1080 not because it is larger; its basically a perfect 4 digit number.

Try dividing 1080 by 480, it results to a odd number of 2.25; this means that every 480 image upscaled on a 1080 resolution convert a 1 pixel to 2.25 x 2.25 pixels which is obviously impossible hence upscaling wouldn't be perfect.

1440 is another story. 1440/480 = 3. Its easy now, every (1x1) pixel on a 480 image would upscale in a 3x3 pixel on a 1440 resolution. Upscaling would be definitely clearer!

Here's what I don't understand? If Ken Kutaragi announced that PS3 will support HDMI 1.3 (which supports 1440p), why does PS3 not support the hdmi1.3 maximum resolution of 2560x1440?

Here's the Official HDMI 1.3 PowerPoint Presentation for more info on HDMI 1.3: http://www.hdmi.org/download/press_kit/2006_10_27HDMI1 3WorldSneakPreviewFINAL.ppt

Yeah I saw this sales report before but didn't know what to make of it. What do the percent signs mean next to the games?

I don't either. I figure the guy wasn't clued in on how they are going to handle it....and being a Sunday afternoon...I wasn't going to talk to anybody that really did know. Maybe I'll call tomorrow.

I was just curious if anybody had a similar story and I was wondring how they handled this during the X360 launch. Did they sell their units to the first people on their list or was #150 on the list allowed to show up the morning of the launch and pick up his pre-order?

I think it's the percentage of those games sell throughs.

Like Resistence sold through 40% of their shipment.

At The preorder Day, I was told by the GS guy that IF they didn't get all the units, they would be going in order per SKU (20 or 60) Not sure how valid that is now. I know they were keeping order track at the time becuase they were writing all the names on a numbered list and mine went in as number 1. I think im the only person there who orders a core pack anyways. I would really like to get a call about it, hell they told me when i was getting ricky bobby. No misnight launch though : (

None of the EBs are opening at midnight?
its apparently up to each store to decide. Mine isn't becuase the manager thought it was dumb to hold a private enevt for a dozen people. Funhny, becayse after the 360 shipment slash, thats about what they did.

I'm #1. So either way, I should get my unit.

But my store isn't opening at midnight either. 8 am. early, but not midnight.

I had better, or the store racks are gonna fly : )

I didnt ask if were opening early, Ill check.

They better not sell the systems to just anyone who got a preorder. I'm gonna be in a line somewhere Friday morning so I won't be picking my system up until 11am or so and I certainly didn't sleep on a sidewalk for nothing.

Exactly. If that were the case, they could have given preorders to ANYONE and said, "Show up and get it." Giving systems out in any order defeats the purpose of preordering...you'd just be limiting the "eligibility pool."

Isn't that how the pre orders are suppose to work though? It doesn't matter what spot you have in line, its a first come first serve pre order basis.

If they have enough systems for everyone who got a preorder, sure. If they don't, then it matters who got there first.

not only did they not know yet if they will be getting all 16 in he also told me that they weren't keeping track of the order that the pre-orders came in. (!)

Not true.

All the preorders taken at GS/EB for a given day have order number based on order of entry in their central database. It's printed right on the receipt. Any store should easily be able to hand out PS3s in order the preorders were given for that location.

They didn't say anything to us at the GS I went to. There's just the normal 48-hr window that's printed on the pre-order slip.

Someone is cheating the system in Japan.

i've scanned the tread but haven't seen anything...has sony updated their north american ps3 launch allocations? are they still claiming 400k or has the 200k # been floated out there?

Wario64 said:
So you cant do anything while downloading? :|
That's kinda stupid. At least MS realized how stupid it was and put active downloading in an update. I hope Sony figures this out soon, too...
SolidSnakex said:
Are you going to do this every damn time VF5 is brought up? Jesus.
Yes, at least until I can play a 3D fighter not named Dead or Alive 4 on the X360. I'm willing to curb stomp on the head of the head Sega AM2 guy to get him to spread the love. Anyways, carry on with the PS3 talk...

This is getting ****ing annoying...

Tell me about it. It's pretty obvious he has no interest in the PS3 and all he's done in this thread is whine about people knocking the 360's awful sales in Japan and post random photos.

If VF5 wasn't the only PS3 game I cared about, then I would have more interest, but the good stuff is a ways off, so my interest isn't that high ATM.
