No 1440p this gen.
No 1440p next gen.
No standard for 1440p.
It is no more of a "standard" than computer monitor resolutions right now, with an installed base of 0.
The end. Thanks. Now back to tales of launch day sorrow and yen price gouging.
Quick question (please understand that I'm not contradicting you):
How do you know that 1440p is not gonna be this/next generation?
IMO:
I find that 1440 is far much a better number than 1080 not because it is larger; its basically a perfect 4 digit number.
Try dividing 1080 by 480, it results to a odd number of 2.25; this means that every 480 image upscaled on a 1080 resolution convert a 1 pixel to 2.25 x 2.25 pixels which is obviously impossible hence upscaling wouldn't be perfect.
1440 is another story. 1440/480 = 3. Its easy now, every (1x1) pixel on a 480 image would upscale in a 3x3 pixel on a 1440 resolution. Upscaling would be definitely clearer!
Here's what I don't understand? If Ken Kutaragi announced that PS3 will support HDMI 1.3 (which supports 1440p), why does PS3 not support the hdmi1.3 maximum resolution of 2560x1440?
Here's the Official HDMI 1.3 PowerPoint Presentation for more info on HDMI 1.3: http://www.hdmi.org/download/press_kit/2006_10_27HDMI1 3WorldSneakPreviewFINAL.ppt
