Official US/JP PLAYSTATION 3 Launch Thread

I have to say...turning on your PS3 and hearing the orchestra tune at full blast is a thing of beauty.

Evo said they were reworking the crash cam so maybe they've decided to give the option. Part of their plan for Motorstorm is for it to be nonstop action which is why the race doesn't end when you crash as some wanted, but some of those crashes (especially if you fall off the edge of a cliff) takes awhile to respawn you.
Aye. Also, don't get me wrong, I still enjoy watching myself crash. But what I prefer is not have the camera change or the speed slow down. I just don't like transitioning out of the racing view; I think it's too jarring from the immersion of it (not just the mood but for your actual quality of racing).

What would work nice I think is if when you pause the game to pan or zoom around, you could always re-watch the last slow motion crash video. Perhaps if it was cached while you crashed (but not actually shown at that point), it woud work, thus letting you pause when it's most convenient to check it out, if you so want to.

Stuff for Motorstorm 2 I guess.

Do I have to forward any Ports? I did a connection test and I'm able to go online but it says my NAT is Type 2. Good or bad?
type 1 means open, 2 means moderate, and 3 means strict
of course open is the best

if your router support UPnP be sure it's enabled

:)

Well, on the site it says it only supports Main Profile encodes. Have you tried a High Profile video?

...

Those are just the formats that will play under the PS3's media player, videos you can load up from a memory stick, usb, or hard drive, got nothing to do with the BD spec. PS3 will play every single Blu-ray disc. There's been not a problem with any AVC or BD-50 release.

resistance is damned good stuff! it's cool to play something so high-speed after gears. feels like you're in fast-forward; you half expect the voices to be squeaky. the feel of the firefights is pretty unique -- i'm not seeing why reviews have called it derivative. it controls better on a pad than any other fps i've played -- dunno if it's the additional precision of the sixaxis, the way insomniac have coded things, or some combination of the two. it's a world of difference from dual shock, in any case. i just wish the levels weren't broken into such brief segments. just as you build some momentum you're interrupted by one of those dull expository cutscenes.

I'm not talking about Blu-ray, at all. I'm talking about AVC files encoded in High Profile.

So...

Uh...

Where's the Web Browser?

When I select "Web Browser" all I get is a screen with symbols drawn by children...

nvm

Figured it out...

First post from a US PS3?

They really need to do some tweaking on text entry...

:(

You have to press "START" and type in an address.

Blast Factor impressions GET.

Well, this thing is a Geometry Wars ripoff total....
They're all Robotron rips. BF is wayyy more like Robotron than it is GW. It's more like Mutants Storm than it is like GW. Go download the Robotron demo from Live Arcade, and remember that it predates all three by over 20 years.

Got my 20gig'er, woohoo!... Picked up Resistance and NBA2K7, been tinkering around with the XMB and downloading the Lair trailer right now.

The Sixaxis has been a pleasent surprise. After hearing a bunch of impressions about it feeling cheap I was expecting something light and flimsy, but it's just the opposite. The build is extremly solid, the analog sticks are 10x smoother than the DS2 and the resistance on the new triggers feels just right. I miss rumble but for pure design it's a major upgrade IMO, very impressed.

Quick question about the heat of the console. I've had the system on for about an hour and it already seems pretty toasty on the right side of the console (especially below the vents). In fact I'd say it's downright hot to the touch (not painfully so, but hotter than I expected)... you guys having the same experience or should I be concerned?

Does anyone else find the MotorStorm demo and teaser clip/music for it on the XMB to be INSANELY loud, compared to everything else? I mean other demos, trailers, games, etc? It's SO loud through my receiver (via optical), I have to literally halve the volume.

It's loud, but not insanely loud for me. It's...just a tad louder than everything else.

But I love the music. :D

Yep. My room almost exploded. WTF.

I picked up my system and started watching Talladega Nights just to see how the Bluray player was. About 10 minutes into it I started noticing dark horizontal bands moving up the screen....kind of like when you see a TV running in the background on TV but not as bad. I tried Resistance, Genji, and Ridge and it did it there too. Its really noticable in those games and annoying as hell. I also tried composite, component, and hdmi inputs and multiple TVs. Something is obviously wrong with the video output. Of course, EB doesn't have a replacement. I'm just going to get a refund tomorrow and have them order a 60gb for me for the next shipment rather than use my replacement plan. This sucks. :(

I really liked the controller. The analog sticks feel better to me for some reason. The triggers feel nice.

Resistance is great. The gameplay is really faced paced, which I love, and the graphics are at times really amazing. At certain points (like Manchester) the game looks almost like real life (buildings and such in the distance). Even with my banding issues it looked great. I really like the way everything looks. It has kind of a soft look to it. Not oversaturated but not dull either. Just right.

Also, I know Genji isn't exactly popular around here and I only played a little bit of it but the graphics are nice. The gameplay and camera leave something to be desired however.

Yup...

But the 'text window' that pops up everytime I use it is a bit confusing and akward...

I hope they can make it a bit more 'seamless' in the future.

It's very very easy for me. Just as easy as typing into this message box here imo.

Yeah the music scared the shit out of me. I jumped.

Jim, if you think that was loud (and it is) please, for the good of your speakers, don't download the demo for Guns Cash Chaos. Holy ape shit my heart skipped like sixteen beats.

Really, don't bother downloading the demo. It ain't that good, and BF shits all over it.

Just played the first couple hours of Resistence, and I'm pretty damn impressed. The mechanics are down pat, and this is easily the best controlling FPS I've played on a PlayStation (and it's up there on consoles in general too). I haven't gotten far enough to really dig into the meaty, unique weapons, but the Bullseye is already a nice dose of fun time awesome.

Special praise for great AI (enemies noticing my flashlight, proper flanking and/or fake out flanking, proper recognition of whether to attack or fall back, etc.) and brilliant atmosphere that has somehow managed to freshen up 1950's era Europe without compromising the integrity of what they were going for.

I can't wait to play more, and to try out multi (though I don't have a BT headset yet).

I'm downloading the MotorStorm demo and it's been an hour and just 85% complete! Wtf? i

It's only 435 MB and my 360 gets download rates triple that with GB files...
Anyways, can anyone help? Or may it just be my wifi(but it is 60% signal strength)?(I use wired 360 btw)

Um. 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999% chance the difference is due to the wi-fi... try it wired, and see how your connection fares.

Nah man. That download takes 90 minutes.

Just a heads up, the JPN Yahoo auctions site has 20GB PS3 listings for 5000yen or less over regular price, so you can nab one for around 55,000 yen. Probably get mine that way. 60GB seem to be going for a high price, 80,000 yen or more.
